L’Ecole No 41

L’Ecole is always our first stop. The most knowledgeable tasting room staff in Walla Walla. I seem to always be attracted to their Estate Merlot although Syrah is outstanding. A lot of energy in this wonderfully restored and updated school house.

This was our first stop on a weekend tasting of Walla Walla wineries. I was conservative with my purchases. However, after the weekend went on and we visited other wineries, the Lumenesce still resonates as my favorite white. The atmosphere of L’Ecole is warm and inviting. Its tasting room has an old library/​study vibe. There are displays of minerals and geological maps explaining the key features of the region and their impact on the wines. The tasting room is standing room only, so this isn’t necessarily the place to spend a lot of time lounging back to sip wine.

High quality, boutique winery located inside a charming little school house. A must-​stop on your Walla Walla wine weekend! A curated gift shop and wide tasting options make the drive worth it.

Very cool schoolhouse which turns 100 this year. The tasting room is nice and open with a decent amount of bar space. Picnic tables are outside on the lawn and there’s a bike rack. We’ve heard from others that L’Ecole was just skating by on their reputation but I really don’t think that was the case. They had some really solid wines. My favorite was the merlot. The tasting fee is $ 5 and is waved with any bottle purchase. They had some really affordable bottles around $ 20 which I really appreciated. It’s right off Hwy 20 and I think it’s worth a stop.

First stop on our Walla Walla tasting trip. There prices are really good for being a winery. They whites are pretty good and we picked up a bottle of one the whites. Located inside an old school and there’s an outside area to sit with your wine.

I just got done having L’ecole n.41 Chardonnay for the 3time at Holiday dinner and as always it was wonderful. I always recommend Lecole to all my friends and family.

As a non-​drinker on a wine tour in the Walla Walla Valley, this was my favorite tasting room! The ambiance was cozy, yet classy, with plenty of things to keep one entertained while the rest of your group makes their way through the tasting. This building was once a schoolhouse, and when you walk through the doors are met by a classic stair case that leads you to an open room featuring books, art, and «swag».
Those with me really loved the wine tasting, they had a hard time choosing which wines to buy… they ended up buying 6 different bottles each. The gentleman servicing my group (Christopher) was knowledge and friendly, even gave us a bunch of restaurant suggestions and the menu breakdown. We plan on going back for the barrel tasting the weekend of the 6^th!

Well worth a stop. The tasting room staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. We ended up staying way longer than we had planned but it was too fun to leave.
The wines are also very very good.
The tasting room alone is worth a visit.

One of the better known wineries, L’Ecole demonstrated how they earned that reputation when we walked into a spacious, yet crowded, tasting room. Our server was ready and waiting for us when we arrived and started us with ample information about each wine. He also provided extra data about the winery and winemaker as we went along.
Good solid performance on wines and the service. We ended up purchasing a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Red Blend (Perigree). I will return next time I’m in the area.

I recently visited with a group of 10 from California and L’Ecole was very accommodating. The tasting room has a classic/​youthful feel, as it used to be a school house (beautifully renovated) and along with Ben (tasting room manager and an exceptional host/​tour guide) you feel very welcome. Ben was so informative and enthusiastic that we all left feeling a bit smarter, in terms of wine knowledge. Ben was a great teacher! Not only was the hospitality a 5 star rating, the wines are a 5 star rating as well. I recommend the Grenache! Definitely coming back. :)

Service was unsatisfactory. The guy running the tastings only told us what wine he was pouring only half the time. The other times he just poured and would walk off to chat with other patrons. No explanations or conversations of what we were tasting. He felt it was necessarily to continuously repeat that «he is alone» and that it «would be a while» before he can ring is up for the wine we purchased. When we asked if we can open a bottle to enjoy in the patio he said we can but that he can’t provide us with the cork opener or glasses only to be allowed by his superior who was much more gracious.
The wine was subpar and did not stand out in any way though we did enjoy the 2013 Chenin Blanc the most out of all the wines featured.

What a great tasting visit we had at L’Ecole. My wife is in a wheelchair and they accommodated us far beyond our expections! With approximately 30 minutes notice, they directed us to the cellar with easy wheel chair access: set up a separate table with chairs, ice water, breadsticks, tasting notes and wine glasses; and assigned a person to us who ran up/​down stairs bringing the tasting wines of the day! Also, they directed us to park in an area very close to the cellar! It was a very positive experience! Also, love their wine-​all varietals! We will definitely go back in the future!

I have been drinking this wine for a lonnnnnnggggggg long time. I can’t even remember how long, (and I promise I am not drunk. this time). L’Ecole has always been a really solid mid sized producer. Larger than a boutique but much smaller than a major vintner.
The tasting room is beautiful. Inside a schoolhouse built in 1915 in what is known as «Frenchtown» due to the high number of French Candians who originally settled the area. Now normally I hear «French Canadian» and that would be enough to scare me away from anything. But hey, I will give those fake French a nod on this one. Good job guys! Nice schoolhouse and eventually a nice tasting room!
Friendly staff happy to help you with the wines and places to eat in town. Well worth a stop and if you love good wine, they will never disappoint

This was one of my top 5 favorite wineries from my Walla Walla wine trip weekend. First, the tasting room is located in a schoolhouse that was built in 1915, and they have done a fantastic job renovating and maintaining the historical aspects of the space. As you walk in you walk up the stairs it’s easy to imagine all the children over the years who used to do the same. In the wood, especially down by the bathrooms, you can still see some of the children’s engravings along with the old coat hooks.
I also loved how the school theme continues in the tasting room with the chalkboard tasting counter, they even provide chalk for you to utilize for tasting notes during your tasting session. Our server was incredibly informative, friendly, and didn’t mind all my questions. I felt like my head was jammed full of wine knowledge when I left. He definitely made the experience very enjoyable.
L’Ecole is family owned and since 1983 grows and makes all their wine and are certified sustainable, they are one of the largest producers of wines, and the maps of the growing areas in WA they have easily on hand are very interesting.
The tasting was $ 5 for a tasting flight of 8 wines. Everything was good, but there were a few that I definitely fell in love with like the 2013 Chenin Blanc, the 2011 Estate Cab Franc, the 2011 Ferguson, the 2010 Apogee, 2011 Cab, and 2012 Chardonnay. The prices vary, but tend to be fairly reasonable for the quality of the wine. I loved it so much that I ordered a case to be shipped back home, the first time I have done that at a winery.

This place is my favorite tasting room in Walla Walla area so far.
I first sampled L’Ecole’s wines a couple years ago at a wine shop in Portland. We promptly bought a bottle — great wine and not expensive (was in the $ 20 range). Prices have risen somewhat since then, but it is still worth buying. Have purchased several of their wines since and been pleased with each one.
In Walla Walla recently and determined that I had to go to their tasting room. It is a little outside of town, but easy to find. The building is beautiful as well as the tasting room. Everyone we spoke to was knowledgeable and fun to talk to. The tasting fee is refunded with bottle purchase (and how can you resist buying a bottle?!). If you are in the area, definitely stop by.

Great tasting wine in a historic venue. Distinguishing among the vast numbers of wineries available for tastings in the Walla Walla area can be difficult; however, all you need to know: L’Ecole is worthy of a stop.

This was our first stop in Walla Walla — straight from the airport! What a beautiful building too. The tasting room is very nice. Who cares about that… lat’s talk wine!
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. We tasted all of the wines available for tasting. There are some great little gems. We picked up 3 bottle and started our case to take back home on the plane.
Go visit and taste you won’t regret you stopped in.

A couple of things:
We took the high cost reserve tour at $ 25 each only offered on Friday at 3 pm.
I am not a fan of winery tours and this was the only tour we took on our recent trip to WW.
With those qualifications, this was a great winery tour led by Ben, head of cellar tours at l’ecole. We got to try 8 wines including 2 from the barrel and 6 from the bottle. The school house is charming and the wines were good. Overall worth the cost. Spent a good 2 hours there and found it charming. If you just want to see one great winery in WW, this is your place friday @3pm.
