Our favorite restaurant for special occasions. The Washington salad was disappointing tonight. We have had before here, but tonight there was a very bitter note to the greens and very scarce candied pecans. In fact the one or two that were there were cut so small they were not detectable by taste. I did find a few small pieces when I went looking for them.
However, the filet was very good, cooked perfectly, and extremely tender. I was actually able to cut it with my fork. The creamed corn tastes excellent appears to be scratch made.

Ambiance was good/​appropriate. Food was so-​so for price. Steak quality matched our expectations for the region, scallops were cold and lobster tail rubbery. Appetizers were ok (calamari and seafood salad). Skip the sides, very plain (Mac n cheese, au gratin potatoes, soggy asparagus). Service was the absolute worst our party has experienced at a steak and seafood establishment, especially for a $ 600 meal for 6. Nice but completely inexperienced/​unprofessional staff. Slow to bring wine menu, very unknowledgeable about wine selection. Inattentive through entire meal. Happy to give her own favorite sides but completely unable to describe them or customer favorites. Came by to apologize for slow delivery of entrees, offered something to help with the wait but walked away and never acknowledged anything else. Never came to refill our wine. Left a stack of menus on the floor next to our table and walked by them all meal. On par with rookie Applebee’s waitstaff.

Delicious food — but overpriced. Oysters on the half shell were great. The service tried to be high-​end, but missed the mark a bit. Side dishes were ridiculously expensive, but tasty. A bit disappointed in the limited seafood menu options, but I enjoyed what I had. Just can’t give them five stars when factoring in the cost.

Nice, quiet ambiance. Upscale — nice for a romantic dinner. Décor includes a lot of dark hardwood. Perhaps a little on the masculine side, but not so much as to make anyone uncomfortable. Both inside and outside has an appearance of being nicely finished and top of the line 20 – 30 years ago — still looks good and well maintained but has a very slight feel of being dated (see also RiView). Food was good all around — steaks, shashimi, crab cakes, calimari. Although some meals were expensive ($ 75, not including any sides) more affordable selections available. I had a nice 12oz fillet for $ 45, and others had entrees for $ 25 – 35. Nice selection of bourbons and wines. Waiters and waitresses were decent — very good if compared to most restaurants, but I expect a place that puts itself forward as a high class restaurant to have smoother wait staff. Again, they were good, but just a bit bumbling for anyplace with a $ 75 steak. It was the only thing that kept me from 5 stars.

The essence of Kentucky. Excellent steak, seafood and family sides. Second time here for a business dinner. Service, meal ambiance haven’t let me down yet. Filet M rare cooked to perfection. Scallops Oscar melt in your mouth. Home made creamed corn buttery smooth! Soufflé to die for. AND Beyond attentive staff! Can’t go wrong with a meal at Z’s.

Went there for my birthday and had a early dinner. We ate in the bar and had a great meal. The service was great and so was our food, the filet I had was cooked perfect and very tasty. I had the butter cake for dessert, always one of my favorites, and it did not disappoint.

I had a celebratory dinner here recently. The overall experience was disappointing. The calamari was chewy and was served on a bed of wilted lettuce. The lobster tail was also chewy and a bit raw. The crab legs were just okay (I have had better at chain restaurants). The brussel sprouts were nearly inedible. We could hardly chew them. That being said, the filet and oysters were delicious, as well as the au gratin potatoes. The service was okay, but we felt pressured in to taking the brussel sprouts home even though we voiced that they were tough. However, our waiter did offer to take our picture in front of the fish tank, which I found very nice and thoughtful.

Always a lunch favorite with limited dinner occasions. Had dinner with two other couples last Wed. (5⁄20).
Food was excellent, wine offerings limited, price … Very high!
Almost all entrees are north of $ 35 and everything is al a carte.
Dinner for all six (with two bottles of wine @ $ 85 total) was over $ 700.

Service was okay, for a $ 218 (not including tip) dinner the food was pretty plain… To be honest, you can go to the fresh market and pick yourself up a nice tender piece of filet mignon and ribeye steak for ¼ of the cost and grill it and it will be just as good. $ 218 for two pieces of steak and some asparagus… I will try elsewhere, did not exceed my expectations… I am just being honest. That was a waste of money, couldve went to Ruth Chris and got 3 entrees for that price…

The food was good but there was nothing that had the wow factor. Service was excellent. But for the price there should be a little wow! I had lobster with the oysters rockerfeller for an appetizer. My husband had the same appetizer but with the scallops for his entrée. We have been there several times but this night seemed somewhat disappointing.

Went to Z’s on a spur of the moment, on a Wednesday night. I was glad to see they were fairly busy, but not too busy, so we couldn’t get a table.
I have been before, with reservations.
The food is very good. The Ahi Tuna is actually pretty much out of this world. My husband loved the bleu cheese dressing and his wedge salad. (Wedge salads are his thing, so he is an «expert».) The lobster bisque is good. (My thing).
The Spinach Florentine is a yummy side. I really didn’t want to share, but it did.
I had to get dessert, because they have a big chocolate chip cookie, with a scoop of ice cream, which our waitress told us about. Perfect end, to a pretty perfect meal.
It is pricey, but the $$$$ will have already told you that. It is great, for special occasions, but sometimes it is just nice to splurge. Z’s is worth the splurge.
The service also makes it worth it. Really liked our waitress and all we came in contact with. The manager (?) came by and checked on us, which is always nice.

Come on guys. I order a prime piece of beef medium rare, it comes out mid well… and the bartender questions the temperature as she explains she’s been there for about 10 years.
As you know, you are competing with Jeff Ruby’s, the steakhouse that sets the bar in Louisville and Cincy. If you are going to compete, please step up your game.
I have eaten lunch several times at your restaurant with good experiences. Tonight was the first dinner in a few years. I will not be back.
I wish you the best because I believe good people are behind this restaurant. You MUST step up the food quality and customers service. Very disappointed.

Everything we ate was perfectly prepared and delicious. I had the Washington salad and it is my favorite salad now. The lump crabmeat cocktail was huge and great. We had the Dover sole which prepared table side and was the best I have ever had. We finished with the grand marnier soufflé which was perfectly cooked and delicious. Great wine selection too! We will be back again.

2.5 stars if I could. We showed up at 7 PM on a Saturday night and the place was dead. I should have followed my instincts and taken that as a sign. There wasn’t any one thing wrong with this place, but the food was only mediocre and the oyster selection was pretty limited for a place that has «Oyster Bar» in the name of the establishment. Prices were exorbitant for the quality of food served. Wine selection, while decent, was nothing to write home about.

fresh oysters– fish point, small and creamy ;p yum
filet mignon nachos– filet was perfect
fried shrimp– huge with perfect amount of breading
grilled shrimp– huge and fresh
crab cakes– pretty damn good, but not my fave
RED SNAPPER– the whole fried fish. i would never have ordered this, but it was amazing! i would pass on the orange sauce and use their house tartar and hot sauce
drinks were great, customer service was great– thank you BEVERLY! u are a gem ;)

This is my favorite restaurant in Louisville. The creamed corn is unreal. For those of you who may not know they have an excellent lunch menu at very affordable pricing…$ 7-​$ 15 lunch plates. Plus, their lunch portions & dinner portions are huge.
The walu Hawaiian butterfish is also another favorite of mine.
I love the ambience in here too. Their soups are amazing & along with being original creations. If you do order a Caesar make sure you know the option of with anchovies or without.

Oaks night. Our party was late but we were seated. We sat for 2 hours with no bread or snacks. My wife’s wine wasn’t delivered to her. My side dish wasn’t delivered. For the price they charge I was ready to walk. Fish dish was very good tasting. Side dishes were ok. Not worthy of the cost and very disappointed. Most dishes were $ 40 and up. Drinks $ 12 and up. Side salads $ 9. Steaks $ 50. Again for the money the service was really bad. Food good.

I’ve eaten here a few times now, and their menu is pretty good for both lunch and dinner. Things really only start to get expensive when you keep ordering overpriced bottles of wine.
Service is very good. Atmosphere isn’t too bad. Only a hint of stuffy depending on the rest of the clientele.
One HUGE suggestion: stay away from the clam chowder… it’s like they make it with sea water, it is SO salty.

The Lobster Bisque, Duck with Shiitake Mushrooms, sides of sauteed spinach, asparagus, creamed corn, and Grand Marnier Soufflé were all delicious!!!
