Good selection of vinyl! This store has been around forever and I can see why. It is super laid back, they have a great selection, and the staff seem to be friendly.
Support music stores and swing by this shop.

Decent selection, not the best, but it’s alright. A hefty amount of indie vinyl, with a smidgen of metal thrown in. I was able to pick up a Wolves in the Throne Room LP for a very fair price. The guy working seemed a bit out of it and wasn’t very helpful, although I didn’t really give him good information on what I was looking for, so that may have been my fault. ⁴⁄₅.

The selection is good, some genres better represented than others but that’s probably due to the cycle of inventory, etc. A few local things on sale there too candles, T-​shirts, CDs from local bands, random weird publications. I found The Germs anthology here so that was a plus. Definitely worth a visit, easy to spend an hour here just browsing the aisles.

Pretty cool little record store. It’s off the beaten path, so I didn’t notice it until recently. Overall their selection is good, though I wish they had more classic rock n roll. Prices are a little on the high side.
Whatever you do, don’t try to sell your records to these guys! A friend of mine sold his Mom’s old albums to them, and they gave him just pennies on the dollar. Then they turned around and sold the stuff for top dollar. I understand making a profit, but marking something up 10 times what you paid is a little over the top!
Anyway, glad there are still cool record stores in the Highlands!

After reading many glowing reviews and getting recommendations from friends, I was excited to check out this place during my recent trip to Louisville. Um, guys? It’s not that great. I found both the new and used vinyl collections to be sorely lacking. Only one title I was searching for was in stock. I bought it, but faced instant regret because I know I could have gotten it about $ 5 or more cheaper at my local shop.
Add all that to the apathetic yet know-​it-​all attitude of the 15-​year-​old-​looking clerk and I likely wouldn’t go back. When I asked him about other local record shops nearby he mentioned Better Days and told me «but they mostly carry used stuff,» as if that’s a bad thing to a record collector. Then added, «We’re pretty much the only REAL record store in town.» Nothing like a kid who was born just a few years ago snobbing it up in a record store to someone who’s owned vinyl her whole life.
Ironically, at Better Days I was able to find tons of REAL music old and new (and there were multiple copies of new albums there, which is more than I can say for Underground’s paltry selection), and the clerk there was knowledgeable, personable and didn’t badmouth the competition. (Even when I tried to!) I spent 10 times more money there than I did here. Then again maybe I’m just the kind of person that enjoys fake record stores as long as the selection is ample and the employees are real, friendly and competent. Go figure.

Great used and new vinyl selection. Especially check out the used folk and singer/​songwriter LPs. It seems like there’s always something to surprise me in that section, like Norman Blake’s Fields of November, priced around $ 7, that for some reason I didn’t buy, and then it was gone…

Independent music in my hometown has a pulse, but it’s thready at best… thank god Underground Sounds has been eating its Wheaties and has a solid foundation!
Craig Rich and his small team are stalwarts of the good olé fashioned music store experience… sweet posters & pics of rock gods littering the walls, the awesome scent of old vinyl and dust under your nose, a seemingly unlimited knowledge of what’s hot & what’s not and more importantly what you can get your filthy little hands on equals my version of High Fidelity Records in Louisville.
Anyone even thinking of buying cd’s or records or nostalgic swag from anywhere else but here this Xmas should have a toe cut off and their face slapped… in the nicest way possible of course :) Spend an extra buck and keep it real for #%%‘s sake by supporting the last of a dying breed in the ‘Ville.
Takeaway on this: Get your @ss in there and then try to tell me I’m wrong.

Underground Sounds is a solid indie record store in the Highlands. Great vinyl selection, decent new cd selection, and a hodgepodge used compact disc selection that usually has it’s hidden gems. I’ve found some great buys by taking time and gettin’ down on the floor to sort through the dusty piles of used cd’s on the ground.
Craig’s intensive knowledge is amazing, welcoming and just down right entertaining. He pulls you into in depth record conversations and really knows his stuff. He can talk music all day and he does. Which leads to other customers in the store being neglected. If Underground Sounds found the medium of entertaining and taking care of customer service. They would be a 5 star rating in my book.

An ever changing vinyl selection, and the addition of 45s in the last year is a big reason to continue to visit. New and used CDs are also in abundance. There is a turntable setup for previewing purchases, and the staff is always pleasant and easy going. The only downside for me is the mixture of used and repress vinyl in the same bins.

Underground Sounds has seen some notable improvements in the last few years, a trait they share with their competitors. They have as wide a selection of offerings as anyone else in town, esp. if you value R&B and blues records, and a location that is in the heart of the Baxter/​Bardstown corridor (late night hours to match). Their selection of CDs more than holds its own as well.
I used to believe that the focus here was on the 1960s era (and that’s a fine thing esp. if you’re selling vinyl) but I no longer detect that in their inventory.
They have as nice an A-​Z indie rock section as anyone and that’s some decent competition. Like every other record store in town they back the local bands with counter and window space and that is as it should be.

Great alternative to the post-​earxtacy music seeker. Good vinyl collection. Nice selection. Small and cozy

I get to travel alot for my job and I occasionally get to Louisville. This shop is along the Bardstown Rd area of Indie shops of all sorts and this little record shop is always one that I make a point to stop in. Craig (or Greg ?) the owner, is a pretty interesting dude & he’s always had great recommendations. I tend to mostly just shop the vinyl selection & am ALWAYS able to find some cool LPs at fair prices. Its small but every record in the place is there for a reason and the staff can tell you why. Overall it’s a well curated selection, well organized & definitely worth your time.

They not only always have what I am looking for, but Craig has such extensive knowledge. Everytime I go in there I expect a little lesson about an album I have listened to for years but he can find something new about it.
They have the best Jazz section in the city, and by far the best vinyl.

This is one of the best places to buy music from. Underground Sounds opened right about the time I moved to Louisville 10+ years ago. They have a great selection of Records and will order the hard to find stuff if they don’t have. Great selection of Jazz, Blues, Psych Rock, Classic Rock, Indie, Local, etc records. I like that I you won’t see teen bop stuff sitting around. They may have it, but never noticed.
Go there enough and get to know Craig. It got to the point where I would go in, tell him I want something new to listen to and he’d pick it out with a «You’ll love this, then.» He was always right. Craig’s knowledge of music is probably the best you’ll find in Louisville. And he’ll tell you some stories while your there.
Not the biggest place, but the location, people and selection can’t be beat.
