This place was pretty decent! It’s a low key place with a friendly vibe and good solid MED food. Thank you for the good sodas too! Great hummus.

Always great! The hummus with gyro meat ordered spicy is my favorite and I order it every visit. The chicken shawarma wrap is excellent as well. Service is prompt, but direct and quiet. Love this place!

This place is legit! The food is fresh and amazing. When I used to live in Louisville, it was definitely a mainstay in the many food options on Bardstown Road.

This is our favorite hidden gem! The food and hospitality are terrific. The owner will come and personally recommend things and bring little treats to try. As part of the whole experience, you are given a cup of amazing lentil soup as an appetizer. Then, after your meal, they bring you a special little tea drink. It’s a totally unique experience. P. S. They make the best hummus ever. It’s worth the trip for the hummus alone. :-)

I couldn’t tell you how many times I have walked right past The Falafel House, located at 1001 Bardstown Rd, without paying much attention to it. I love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, but for some reason this place wasn’t on my radar. I was on vacation last month, and my fiancé, Steph, and I happened to be walking down Bardstown Rd trying to figure out where we wanted to eat. We happened to be standing outside of this restaurant, checking out the menu posted on the window, when a man came up to us with samples of lentil soup. It was good, and if your going out of your way to give me free food, I’ve got to at least check you out. The man that gave us the samples was the server, who seated us and waited on us promptly. The atmosphere is kind of blah, white walls, not much in the way of art, and mainly pictures and advertisements of the food. Arabic music was blasting from the kitchen, which can be a turn-off for some, but didn’t bother us too bad. The menu is simple, which is a plus in my book, with a lot of options under $ 10 a person. We ordered Grape Leafs for starters, Steph ordered a Traditional Falafel Gyro, served with fries, and I ordered Vegetarian Kallaya, which is cooked tomatoes with onions, sweet peppers, and zucchini squash, served with rice and pita bread. The Grape Leafs were good, just the right amount, Tzatziki sauce was not the best I have had but not bad at all. It didn’t take long for the entrees to come out, and all I can say is that you better have brought an appetite. This place does not skimp on the portion sizes, everything, including the fries, was probably enough for two people. Steph’s gyro was huge(or Yuge if your Donald Trump) with plenty of Falafel, cucumber, tomato and tahini sauce. The Vegetarian Kallaya, which I had ordered because I had no clue what Kallaya was, could have easily been enough for the both of us. It was good, kind of reminded me more of Indian food then Middle Eastern, and was mildly spicy. The fries were big, crisp and tasty. I was barely able to finish my meal, Steph had to get a box for half of her gyro and and some fries. Our waiter started off strong but was non-existint toward the end, he was busy chatting up a girl in the seat in front of us. He did, however, give us samples of hot Sage tea at the end of our meal, so that helped put him back in a positive light. Our meal, including tip, was under $ 30. I could barely walk out of the place I was so full. The food quality is so-so, nothing I tried was bad, but nothing stood out. If your looking for high-brow and high quality(but higher prices), you probably need to stick to The Grape Leaf or Saffron’s, but if your looking for value in a casual setting for a quick bite to eat, The Falafel House is your best bet!

Visiting Louisville and decided to stop here for quick lunch. Turned out to be some of the best Middle Eastern food. Falafel and hummus was delicious. Portions were large and very reasonable priced. The owner brought out some special little treats for us to sample, I think it was some kind of spicy eggplant salad and it was absolutely fantastic. The owner said it was his own creation. Great job!

* Mission Statement* For one woman to go to this business alone and not be harassed. I made a carryout order(yes it was Blondie if you’re reading this). And I couldn’t even get any words out with this dude. He asked me what I was doing afterwards, if I was going home and if I had a boyfriend and if he was good. ABSOLUTELYNOTACCEPTABLE. NOTPROFESSIONAL. I WILLNEVERBEBACK. YOUCHOVANISTPIG! –Also I threw away your falafel and shoveled my cat litter on top of it. *** Go to Mirage off of Preston!!!****

I’m not even finished with my meal yet and I’m writing this review… That tells you something right away. Its a Friday night and I needed some grub. I looked through my bookmarks to see if there was any place I was meaning to try. Falafel House was on the list and looked in my price range and was something different. I could smell the deliciousness from across the street. And walking in I noticed that on the front of the counter was a black and white picture of what the building was years and years ago. The owner(I presume) was very charming and welcoming, asking my name and if this was my first time there. I ordered the chicken schwarma and opted for the spiced rice(extra spicy). While I waited the owner kept up pleasant conversation and offered me a sample of the lentil soup(yuuuuummm). I ordered to go, so naturally I wanted to park and eat the goodies like ten times, even though I live 3mi away. Dude, they give you so much food for under $ 10. I’m telling you, I was starving and I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it. The rice is super fragrant and well-spiced. And the chicken schwarma. Yes. Just yes. Its super juicy and flavorful and more than generous portion. I’ll definitely be back, if not for the charming service, for the great eats. Oh and I wanna try some Baklava.

Such wonderful service! It really felt like we were apart of the family at Falafel House! It was our first time there and the manager gave us a free hummus with pita bread and free sage tea, the hospitality was unbeatable! I ordered the Kibbeh(which was tender and spiced beautifully) as well as the lentil soup! Everything was wonderful, and we got service with a smile! One of my new favorite restaurants in the highlands, I will most definitely be back!

This is seriously the best place you will eat hummus EVER! The Gyro platter is also amazing with huge chunks of well seasoned meat with a crispy char on the edges, delicious chicken Schwarma. Holy cow, the lentil soup… Don’t even get me started on the sage tea! *SWOON*

«Serendipity» Is the word that comes to mind when I found this place while looking for a home in Louisville. The staff is very welcoming and works with you if you don’t understand something on the menu. The Humus alone is worth the visit. If you’re a vegetarian they can accommodate you well.

This is some seriously good Mediterranean cuisine. I am from Cyprus, I should know! The owners are from Jordan. Very hospitable people, they bring you hummus and other dips along with whatever you order, including pitta bread. Best hummus ever. Seriously.

LOVE this place. Gyro is amazing. Super friendly service. Many extras. Will definitely be here again. Everything was served quickly and fresh. Falafel a little dry but the authentic pita it was served on was made fresh. Totally recommend.

Wow, 180° turn around from what they used to be in my opinion. For years I thought this place was a bit substandard but they’ve changed their management and I’ve heard it’s gotten really good here lately so i stopped in for a late lunch. The rumors are true and I’ve got to say… I’m totally impressed. Flavor profiles are spot on and I’ll definitely be back! The food is well balanced and is simultaneously flavorful yet light and healthy. The after dinner tea is excellent as well. Humps hummus and Athenian chicken were amazing. RECOMMENDED

So I am always nervous about tring new places… this is the best decision I made for a food stop in a long time… eat in and get the royal treatment. This is my new favorite spot where I can eat healthy and it doesn’t even feel like it.

THIS is the restaurant that I have finally made a Unilocal!account for. I have lived just around the corner from this place for almost 2 years and only recently gave this place a try — WHYDID I WAITSOLONGTOTRYTHISPLACE!!! Since then, I’ve been back to Falafel House more times than any other restaurant in the Highlands for lunch and dinner! If you’re looking for a quick, delicious, inexpensive, friendly, and did I say DELICIOUS place to eat, this is it! All of the ingredients they use are fresh and dishes are made to order. I always get the chicken schwarma wrap with tzatziki sauce and a side of either babaganouj or hummus with their fresh baked pita bread to go. They are super fast and the guys behind the counter are super friendly. If you are sitting there thinking«is that place worth giving a try?» I’m here to tell you — YES. GONOW! HURRY!!!

Louisville is rightly coming into its own as a foodie destination, but one food type that the Derby City has lacked is great Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fare. I’m still on the lookout for this — on the hunt for that amazing saffron rice, dolmas and gyros — but The Falafel House definitely shows promise. Like the four stars of this review represent, I’m a fan. Last night I met my boyfriend, his sister and her boyfriend at this spot right at the corner where Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road split in the Highlands. It was after 9 p.m., and the more restaurants that offer later-night bites, the better.(The Falafel House is open until 11 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.) I ordered the chicken shawarma — my Middle Eastern go-to. I got it in the wrap but wish I would have gotten the plate. The rice on my friends’ plates looked delicious. The chicken was flavorful. My preference is chicken that is sliced a little thinner, but that might just be me. And I loved the sides. The hummus is served with a spicy relish that gives it a bit of a kick. If I could have licked the plate, I would have. We tried a bit of the lentil soup, I believe it was. This was packed with flavor. On a cold day — or a day when you’re fighting a cold — this would be so comforting. I snuck a piece of my friend’s gyro. Definitely a savory treat that I would order myself. And to end the meal, we had to try the baklava. This was honey, flaky goodness and really some of the best baklava I’ve ever had. The server was very attentive, checking on us a few times. I was very impressed with The Falafel House and am looking forward to checking out more of their menu, perhaps raising my rating to five stars in the future.

I don’t know why every time I go into this place it is empty because it is SO good. I usually get a gyro or chicken shawarma(even their falafel is amazing) but today I got the chicken kabobs and that was delicious too! I got carry out and the chicken was put on enough rice for 2 people, and grilled peppers and squash. The side of hummus and pita bread as well as the salad was also delicious. The people working here are also really nice. Only difference between this trip and the last was that they didn’t give me any lentil soup but who knows why, I don’t mind. I’ll still be back again!

Sun streaming through the café, we sat down at a diner table next to a window around 730 on a Thursday afternoon. Our plan was to get a quick bite, maybe split a Gyro if their prices were on the heavier side. Our food. Was. Delicious. The made to order portions were surprisingly filling. And the prices were VERY reasonable. FALAFEL We had the Falafel Appetizer. They were hot and crispy on the outside, and warm and flavorful on the inside. Exactly what you would expect a good falafel to taste like, mediterranean-ness that melts in your mouth. They came served on lettuce, with a thick tzatziki sauce that was pretty decent too! HUMMUS Thinking(due to the price) that the appetizers would be small we also ordered the Hummus, that came with pita bread. Man, that pita bread tasted like it was homemade — can we say ‘steaming grill marks?’! And the Hummus was definitely from scratch. The olive oil, and green pepper-like spices that they dropped in the centre gave it just enough of a kick to make it familiar but far from ordinary. LAMB — GYRO OK. Let’s talk Gyros. My husband and I have had a love for Gyros for-ever. We both ordered the Lamb/beef Gyros. These are ‘man-sized’ portions.(I had to take ½ of mine home) The first thing you notice is the large hunks of meat, well seasoned. Fresh chopped veggies; tomatoes, cucumber, and stuffed with thinly-sliced lettuce. With more of that tzatziki sauce, all on that fresh pita bread. You may say, you cant mess up a simple Gyro, but I’ve seen it done. and this was far from that. Very well balanced in items, and cuts. Next time, I am totally taking photos(as the Unilocal ones are definitely not current for new management mentioned.) Lovely unexpected, informal date. No pressure, no lines. ran into a great deal, right at the end of Bardstown Road — where it meets Baxter Ave. We will be back!
