History

Established in 1973.

Tattoo Charlie learned tattooing with one of his best friends from High School, Ron Higdon, in Cave City from Sailor Bill Rogers. Charlie and Ron opened a shop in Radcliffe near Ft. Knox and after a short period Charlie moved to Louisville to open his own studio.

Over nearly 4 decades his name became known for doing quality tattoos in a clean and safe studio. Charlie was instrumental in crafting the laws and regulations for tattooing in Kentucky both in 1991 and in 2000 when they were revised.

Charlie passed away in 2007 after a short illness. His son Buddy, who Charlie had apprenticed starting in 1996, took over the day to day running of the business at that time.

Meet the Business Owner

Buddy W.

Business Owner

My dad, Tattoo Charlie, built this business with quality work, a good attitude, and attention to safety. He innovated many of the common safety practices we use today, such as disposable tubes. When he passed away in 2007, I took over running the business. I have worked at the studio since 1996 and love it every day.

I love tattoo history and have been lucky enough to have been tattooed by some great artists. Bowery Stan Moskowitz, Sailor Jerry Swallow, and Tony Polito have all left their mark on me. I also love collecting antique tattoo memorabilia from old machines to design boards and any other tattoo ephemera.

I have a small museum in the Preston Hwy studio showcasing some favorites from my collection, stop in and see some tattoo history from decades gone by!
