Mitchell’s Fish Market

First time eating at this very expensive restaurant and I’m not satisfied. I ordered the FILET MINON, I asked for medium well and I recieved super well! When it came it was very burned, crunchy, and gross to eat! I don’t recommend the steak if you wish to go there. We had oysters for an appetizer and they were bad by them selves, but if you placed them onto a cracker with cocktail sauce it was delicious! The service was decent but other young workers were joking around with each other. I don’t wish to return to this place but if I do I would NOT order the steak because the chef obviously doesn’t know how to cook it. I’m a Unilocaler and I’m Proud!

The food was salty, service was not receptive, prices have increased. Used to love this place but they have definitely made some changes.

My wife and I came to Mitchells on Friday evening and there was a 30 min wait to eat outside. We didn’t mind because it was a beautiful night and we really had our taste buds set on awesome fish. What we got was very disappointing for a premier fish restaurant. My wife ordered sea bass and I order cod, both prepared blackened. Her sea bass was brought out so tough she could not cut it with a knife. If you are a fish lover then you know sea bass is suppose to fall apart with a fork and is the filet mignon of fish price wise. The manager came out and offered a new piece of fish, but she opted for cod similar to mine. He took the sea bass off the bill, but oddly did not comp the cod even though I had eaten my whole dinner before my wives came out. Bad customer service move on the Managers part!!! As for the sides we chose the stardard mashed potatoes and vegetable medley. The potatoes were decent, but the vegetables were limp and over cooked. The server was a 7 out of 10 attentiveness, and had to be reminded to refill our water glasses, which is all we were drinking. I guess we both expected more out of Mitchells as a premier fish restaurant where your bill averages $ 80 for two. We instead we got a very surpar experience. This is not Moby Dick’s!

First time my meal was not «perfect». Our soups were great, wife had the seafood gumbo and I had the lobster bisque. But the main course was a disappointment for me. I had the seafood platter and it was over fried about a minute. Instead of golden brown it was dark brown. Too much breading as well. My wife had the steamed salmon with sticky rice and spinach. Last night we had a wonderful dinner. Being from San Diego, we love sea food. We have had diinner on a couple of times before, but this time it ws excellent. I had ½ dozen oysters and my wife ordered the calamari, for appitizers. Main course was scallops and my wife had like a combination of shrimp, scallops, mussels and fish, Outstanding. We ordered carrot cake to go, very large slices aand delicious. We enjoy watching a program, BILLIONAIR INVESTOR. It turns out he owns this retaraunt. He is a perfections. Now I see why the dinner was better than before. We will definitely go back. The only reason I did not give 5 stars, was the service, slow.

Visiting Louisville for the Derby; drove across town for a reservation at Mitchell’s that was made months ago. Our reservation was for 8pm– we were seated at 8:30. We ordered drinks and they arrived at 9:00 pm; starving, we ordered an appetizer to share and our entrees; when nothing had arrived by 9:30 we decided to leave; the manager came by and said that our artichoke dip would arrive momentarily– that was all we got– by 10 pm we gave up– we paid for our drinks– our very nice and frustrated waiter said they were comping our appetizer and three drinks– so we paid for our drinks and left him a tip. This was a very frustrating experience– I have never left a restaurant without eating. Thumbs down for Mitchell’s Fish Market.

Service is absolutely horrible tonight! They don’t have enough servers. Ours had a group 16 and 4 other tables. It’s a shame
I have lowered It to 1 star. After an hour and fifteen minutes of waiting on dinner, one of my guests food was cold.

Tasteless, overpriced food, terrible service, and a slow bar ignorant of anything more exotic than a gin and tonic. I had the tilapia and shrimp. The shrimp were dry and tasteless and the tilapia was deep-​fries and equally tasteless. The bar didn’t know how to make a Negroni and when I ordered a Cosmo it took forever to reach the table. I ordered a glass of wine and it came to the table right after they delivered my Cosmo, the only time we received prompt service. Three Caeser salads ordered came to the table at three different times, main course plates also arrived at different times. I’d like to blame the crowd for the bad service but half of the tables were empty. Never again! Why did we go to a chain and go outside the Watterson?!

Went here for Easter lunch and was blown away at how great the food was. Had the calamari for an app and it was delicious. Tried the lobster and shrimp stuffed cod for lunch and it did not disappoint. The fish was cooked perfectly and the flavors all worked so well together. Their whole menu looks great and I can’t wait to go back and try something else!

What I liked the most about Mitchell’s was how unbelievably fresh the seafood tasted. I don’t know how they do it, but it tasted incredibly fresh, as if Louisville were on the coast. The battered and fried seafood tasted very light and not heavily soaked with oil, as is in other sea food specialty restaurants. Even the hush puppy was light and tasty, with actual small pieces of corn in them. Now, I wouldn’t dare go to Mitchell’s to eat a burger, nor will I consider a meal at a Red Lobster.

We visit Mitchell’s one a year and are always pleased. Service, food and the view are all spectacular. We have gone with parties from 2 to 25 and never been disappointed. Great job!

Well, this was such a bad choice, on my part, for Valentine’s Day. I had expounded at great length about how great the reviews are of Mitchell’s, to my sweetheart. We were looking forward to this for a week, before the big date.
The place was packed, but nothing unusual for a Sat. night. We were seated promptly, offered drinks and menus immediately, and were pleased with the menu choices. I knew from research that the price was in the upper range, but felt it was worth it.
My date chose the shrimp and lobster stuffed cod, with asparagus and potatoes. I chose the salmon, which turned out to be delicious. Not so with the stuffed cod. My date asked me for my opinion after she took just one bite. The entry was completely tasteless. I found a couple of small shrimp and what might have been some lobster, both of which were without flavor. We decided to switch plates, and I consumed the cardboard-​tasting cod, while my date was enjoying the salmon. Ever the gentleman…
Rather than send the cod back to the kitchen, I decided to mark Mitchell’s off my list of best places to eat. I can get decent salmon in so many restaurants that do not charge the over $ 20 price that Mitchell’s does. Seriously love the atmosphere and food here. I used to not be a seafood lover but over the years I cannot get enough now. Their crab cakes are delicious, the lobster, scallops, lobster bites, shrimp. All of it is delicious. I would seriously go here all the time if I could afford it. The staff is always great. Our last server was hilarious. He spilled a few things, but we didn’t make a bit deal of it and all laughed with him. He was great. Wish I remembered his name. Even gave us menus that said Happy Birthday because it was my birthday. Just a nice touch.

First time in this restaurant and absolutely loved it! We ordered shrimp and brie fondue and it was an excellent appetizer. My spinach salad with blackened salmon was sooo delicious… finally I got some healthy and tasty salad in KY. Great menu selection and prompt service.

We went to Mitchell’s to celebrate my father’s birthday, he enjoys seafood and Louisville is limited in this one regard. We were out at the Paddock Shops and he indicated that he’d like to go there. Great! I thought, this will work. We sat in the bar and our service was excellent.
I am not a seafood eater. When I lived in Connecticut and could see the water the fish were being pulled from and directly contributed to the pollution they endured I felt better about it. I opted for the clam chowder and the crab cake appetizer. I like a clam chowder that is a potato soup with clams in it. This is what I wanted and it was exactly what I got and I was pleased with this. This came with oyster crackers that I slipped into my shopping bag because I don’t pass up a chance to be a Jewish grandmother. I usually add pepper to my clam chowder but this really didn’t need it.
The crab cake appetizer was a monumental mistake. I should have gone for broke and gotten the meal. It was really good in terms of taste and texture. Also, I want my crab cakes to remain whole — no disintegrations. I had one crab cake, I wanted one hundred crab cakes.
My father got the mussels and paired that with an IPA. He didn’t enjoy his food but I think that has everything to do with pairing a bitter beer with his food. I’m not sure how one even tastes their food whilst drinking an IPA. Beer is proof that God love us and wants us to be happy, it is not and never should be an endurance test.
My mother also had the mussels and for one, horrifying, dinner turned into her mother. Out of no-​where my mother started arguing with my father about nothing while I was looking around for Michonne to help me put this zombie/​monster Bubbe down. This soured the rest of the meal, and weekend, for me and I am pretty confident that the other patrons offending my father’s proletarian sensibilities and him not enjoying his meal had more to do with her shenanigans than with the quality of the fare. Mother, for her part, enjoyed her food and was entertained by her antics.
If you enjoy having kids just wait until you have parents.
I also had the carrot cake which was acceptable but nothing to write home about. I will be back, everyone except my family had a lovely time so I am pretty sure that if I went with grown ups I would enjoy myself.

I do appreciate a good seafood dinner now and then. This place has a good selection and a pleasant upscale feel. The menu is big and diverse and if you one of those people in your party that doesn’t like seafood it’s not a problem as they have many non seafood offerings. The food here is really good so I don’t mind the steeper than average price once in a while. If your going to go, go big because I recommend the Chilean sea bass. They do a good job cooking it correctly and its hands down some of the most delicious fish you can have. That said my wife and I have not been disappointed here yet after about 5 visits

The menu does not fully describe the dish. Who would have known that the food comes with cheese when it is not on the menu. Surprise. The food was not that good. In my opinion.

One of the best places for a nice fish dinner in Louisville. There aren’t many high-​end restaurants that focus solely on seafood, so Mitchell’s Fish Market is a gem in town.
Five of us dined here for a ladies night, and everything was great. I drank a refreshing moscato sangria, which was on the happy hour menu for $ 5. I split a wedge salad to start, and chose the Lobster and Shrimp Stuffed Cod for my entrée. Everything was excellent. I’ve also had the salmon in the past, which was just as delicious.
Our waitress was friendly and the service was an enjoyable pace. It took slightly too long to receive our cocktails, but other than that, the courses were served at a good pace. This isn’t the kind of place where you rush through dinner.
The prices are on the high side, but fair. Most entrees range from $ 20-​$ 30. More expensive than a typical chain, but paying a premium for fresh seafood is expected. The portions are by no means large. The dishes are sized to be the amount of food you’re actually supposed to eat. You leave full, but not miserably stuffed. I like this, but some don’t, especially with a high price tag.
I will note, add-on’s like salad or soup are only available at full price. There is no «add a salad to your entrée for $» discounted price. So, if you want start with a cup of soup, it will be $ 6.50. The bill can really add up, but I do like that they offer good happy hour specials, like $ 5 drinks.
For the food alone, I’d give Mitchell’s five stars. Overall though, Mitchell’s is a four star place for me. Though it is a high quality chain, it still gives a bit of a «chain» feel. With prices as high as nice local places, there are other spots I’d choose before Mitchell’s.

I’m no shrimp but I love the shrimp at Mitchell’s Fish Market! I’m kind of a sucker for breaded shrimp so if it’s on the menu there’s a 99.9% chance that I’m going to get it… but i also love crab cakes and calamari so I guess I lied… it’s really a toss-​up between the three. BUT — I didn’t have to choose because they have a combination plate where you get 3 (mouth-​watering) crab cakes, breaded shrimp and yummy calamari! I shared this plate with my boyfriend and it was easily enough food for the two of us, especially since we had also gotten the clam chowder and the complementary bread and butter. P. s. the clam chowder is so slurp-​able and you will be so sad when it’s gone (it’s that good). Also, the bread was so soft and there is literally nothing better than soft, soft bread and butter appetizers — I don’t care what anyone says, that is the best thing ever.
We got this plate during happy hour and so it was a little bit cheaper than normal but overall the prices are pretty moderate. A good seafood restaurant seems to have moderately priced items but that’s okay when the food is very fresh which was the case here. Our waitress was really on top of things and she was quick to get our orders and bring the food out to us afterwards. She suggested that I try their appletini since it was $ 5 during their happy hour; I had surprisingly never had an appletini before so I was satisfied with having my first at Mitchell’s Fish Market. It was actually pretty good and it came with sliced apples which was a nice touch because they tasted delicioso when soaked in the drink!
Finally, it was a very nice atmosphere — all of the decorations made me feel as if I was in Maine where seafood is the way of life. It’s definitely a nice little a it — down restaurant and I am going to be looking forward to returning and having the clam chowder and shrimp and calamari… and crab cakes!

My husband and I go here every year for our anniversary (more often if we can manage it). This place easily has some of the best seafood in Louisville.
Inside is upscale seafaring décor. No netting or kitsch though; it’s very yet minimalist. The rooms are dimly lit and cozy, with small vintage style metal lamps on the table. There’s also a pleasant seating area with umbrellas outside.
The dishes here are some of the most flavorful concoctions I’ve had in town. A little costly but worth it for the quality. You’ll pay about $ 20– $ 40 depending on what you order. The BBQ shrimp appetizer is a must have. You really shouldn’t skip those. The ahi tuna is fresh and tasty. The crab is to die for. I’d order it every time if I could afford to! Beautiful ambiance, very good service. I couldn’t say enough glowing things about Mitchell’s.
