Best hotdog in Louisville! Lonnie’s is an authentic taste Chicago of in the south. In my opinion, you cannot beat the Clark St. Jumbo with taste and value. I always mean to try something different when I visit, but I am drawn time and time again to this delicious combo. Service is very quick even during the Lunch rush. Lonnie and his wife are kind and exceptional at what they do. Do not miss out on this hidden gem in Louisville!

This is my favorite Hot Italian Beef Spot in Kentucky. This place has amazing service. They care about all of their customers. You know you’re getting a top product when the owner prepares all of the food fresh. I also have to recommend their chili with Cheese and Onions and if you’re brave ask for the hot peppers in it. Last but not least, the pricing is so spot on. Great food at the best value in St. Matthews.

Finally a real Chicago hot. Also cheese fries were awesome. The workers were very friendly and gave my kids fruit snack for being well behaved. Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.

Lonnie’s is becoming my Friday ritual lately! This is my second time there for lunch this month. I like that regulars are there for the Friday catfish special. Working men, retirees, soccer moms, office suits alike stop in for a cold beverage and daily dog specials for lunch. The tunes playing are always soulful, today the grill was jamming to the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.(I had forgotten how good that album sounds). I usually rotate between the Wabash Chili Dog, Rush Street Chili Dog or Clark St. Dog but today I tried the Greek Gyro. It was good, reminded me of the ones I ate in Wrigley area when I lived in Chicago. Soft pita, crisp edges of lamb strips from the grill, fresh onions, tomato and just the right amount of tzatziki. When nostalgic for Chicago lunch joints this is the place I go. Next time I might try the fried catfish special or check out their Soul Food Wednesday.

Came for the Chicago style hot dogs. Tasty but a bit small and it was the jumbo Clark dog. Nice relaxed and casual place.

Great little«Chicago Style» restaurant. Use to come here tons with my ex. Probably best hot dogs in Louisville. Their Gyros are excellent. Great fries. Don’t come here if you are a health nut. Good customer service. My only knock is it seems the wait for food always takes forever.

If you know and love Chicago-style dogs and traditional Italian beef, then you’ll love Lonnie’s. If you’re a Chicago native, it will give you a little look and feel from home too. Lonnie and his family are awesome and they always have some good jams playing too :)

I stopped in to get a chili cheese dog and fries. I had to wait a little longer than I thought I should. It was quite small. Did not care for the hot dog itself and just was not much chili. I didnt like the cheese sauce either because it tasted sweet. The french fries were hot. However, they were not salted so I was trying to find a packet of salt in my car. Still looking for a great chilli dog in Louisville. This was not it. Dairy Castle a pretty good one but closed for winter:(

I was fortunate to live in Chicago for four years while I was in college. Since moving to Louisville many years ago there have been several places touting Chicago style food. They were all disappointments until Lonnie’s came along. Lonnie’s is legit, serving up Vienna Beef products combined with some good home cooking. The Chicago Dogs, Wabash Chili Dogs, and Italian Beef Sandwiches are great. They have about the best french fries in town. They also serve Italian Sausage, gyros, burgers, wings and more. The owners, Lonnie and Diane, are wonderful, friendly hosts. It is always a pleasure to see them. A simple place offering Chicago food in Louisville. Now if we could only get some real Chicago Deep Dish Pizza here!

I’ve been going to Lonnie’s for many years and have never left disappointed. The food is great, authentic Chicago style food. The chili dogs are amazing. Real Vienna beef hot dogs with homemade chilli, onions, mustard… wow. The Chicago dogs are of course excellent as well. My personal favorite is the Italian beef sandwich. The best I’ve had, and I’ve been to Chicago many times. They also serve burgers, gyros, and soul food on Wednesdays. This is a great mom and pop joint, and Lonnie and Diane are such nice people. The service is always excellent. The perfect place to experience the Windy City in the Derby City.

Lonnie and his family are some of the nicest people. They seem truly happy to have you in their restaurant. They’re not hard to did, though the spot is small and tables are limited. That seems to be the way it is when your little joint is fantastic. The cashier(a regular told me she’s Lonnie’s wife, but I didn’t confirm) is so friendly, and is pleasant about asking you if you want your sandwich dipped or hot peppers. The answer to whether or not you want your sandwich dipped should always, always be yes. The cheese fries are super good. I don’t love the sausage, but try it yourself, you might like it! If you want something cheap, fast, and that reminds you of Chicago, this is the perfect place to stop in for lunch! They have specials on the weekdays. Check out their website to see what’s cooking!

Step into Lonnie’s and you’ll feel as if you were somehow transported to a cramp and busy New York/Chicago diner, the kind of place where only the locals know of and its delicious goodness is your secret alone. You order at the counter and they make it right there where you can see it behind the bar. There are 6 types of hotdogs and Italian beef, sausages, burgers, gyros, and other special items(poboys, chicken, etc.) to choose from. I love that Clark Street Chicago hot dog has large pieces of tomatoes, cucumber, peppers an relish. Pair that with gooey melted cheese and chili on top of freshly made fries and your crappy day will magically be better. The best part, the hot dog is only $ 3.59 and the fries only $ 2.49. I heard there’s good soul food on Wednesday, which goes really quick. This place is a must try if you’re in the neighborhood and looking for something cheap and satisfying.

The food was good. Had an Italian beef sandwich and a cheese fry. Everything is fresh and made to order. They use Vienna beef hot dogs and sausages. Only down side is, there’s not much room to sit down if they’re crowded. Only 8 or 9 small tables for two and some bar stools at the counter. That’s not a problem though if your getting it to go. Would definately come back!
