When I first moved to Louisville I found this tiny little counter space inside a little Mexican grocery store that served some amazing tacos. I lived on Brownsboro Road back then and so my visits to La Rosita were frequent. Since then I have moved addresses but playing in a soccer league near La Rosita brought me back to visit a few weeks ago. That small counter space they had back in 2008 or so has now expanded into a dining room that takes up a large portion of the Mexican store. Or perhaps it should now read that the store portion takes up some space in this authentic Mexican food restaurant. On my recent visits to La Rosita after my Sunday Soccer games, I have entered into a half full dining room with Mexican music(all Spanish genres) playing in the background and with the television showing Futbol(Soccer) coverage. I like the fact that though the restaurant has expanded, the atmosphere has remained super casual. I feel perfectly fine going inside in my soccer uniform, and I have seen men in their landscaping uniforms, or some people in close to pajama attire. I have ordered burritos, tortas, and tacos here though La Rosita also offers Mexican style soups and sopes here. My favorite thing to order here are the tacos and believe me when I say that these tacos are the most delicious authentic tacos you can find in town. The«Chicharron»(pork rind) is an amazing choice of taco to choose but you can stick with your more«normal» meats of steak and chicken too. Every taco I have ordered with various meats has been so exceptionally delicious and rich in flavor that it’s hard to stop eating them. Pair your tacos with an Horchata(Cinnamon-Rice) drink to balance out your tongue after you’ve tried the green or red salsa on your tacos. The employees working there are very friendly and though they speak primarily Spanish, they did just fine getting through taking orders of all the English speakers. Whenever you don’t feel like dressing up and going out for lunch or dinner or whenever you are short on time, go visit La Rosita for a quick delicious meal. East enders, you live right by La Rosita, so if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re definitely missing out on a great local restaurant.

Great hole in the wall restaurant. Not your typical Americanized-Mexican food. You may have some trouble with English but if you want some good food you’ll deal with it. Get the red sauce.

My parents aren’t very adventurous when it comes to eating out, but I managed to drag my father here today after seeing all the positive reviews. Boy, does this place live up to the hype! 1) Is it a dive? Yes. This little gas station turned grocery restaurant is every bit of a dive. A little crusty, a little rusty here and there. Unless you’re a regular, you’re not going to understand their system. But it’s definitely worth it to learn. 2) Is it authentic? Oh yes. Tacos are dressed classically, with onion, cilantro, lettuce, lettuce, cheese, and sour cream. I even got to spy the tacos al pastor roasting on a spit in the back of their tiny kitchen where 6 people or so and busting tail to bring you tasty treats. 3) Is it delicious? My friend, this place is ridiculous. Grab that red sauce in your left hand and a taco in your right and let’s journey to the land of pure flavor. That lingua was fall-apart tender and oh-so tasty. Carnitas were exactly as you hope they would be. Even though my dad has previously driven past here approximately 83 quadrillion times, if he doesn’t come back here on his own, I’ll make sure he does.

For the money, this place has the best tacos in town !! Hole in the wall with a griddle in the back, but the most authentic tacos in Louisville. It ain’t fancy, but authentic street Mexican doesn’t need to be.

I was not impressed with this Mexican restaurant. The cheese and chips were runny and the quality seemed like a fast food restaurant. The tacos were ok but similar to what you can make at home. Will not be going back

I LOVE this place! Fun, casual, delicious, authentic and very reasonable! A Latin market too. Enjoy!

The fresh corn tortillas and authentic cilantro and onion style is good. And the wide selection of meat types is great, but this taqueria doesn’t stack up against many others I’ve been to in PDX, NYC, and Mexico City. The carnitas were really fatty, nearly 50% fat, some of it rather rubbery to boot. The chicken was okay, but not great. Sauces were standard as well. On the plus side, portions were fairly generous and price wasn’t bad. Glad to have soccer on in the background too while waiting.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in town! Not your typical restaurant, as it is also a grocery store. But if you give it a try I guarantee you will be back and want to bring your friends next time.

Oh my GAH… as a for reals Mexican for Los Angeles, CA I have to say that this place is LEGIT! Like, it took me back in time to the dives I grew up visiting when I was a little kid and my dad wanted for reals Mexican food(my mom is from El Salvador). Now that he’s gotten remarried visiting this little whole in the wall restaurant is like going home to visit my dad and my step-mom! It’s BOMB-DIGGIGITY finger lickin’ chingon! I always get the lengua tacos and one taco de tripa for good measure(that’s tongue and intestine for you monolingual English kids). Those are the most delicious treats that can be found and also very hard to find in this part of the country and these tacos do not disappoint!

Great Mexican food. My only complaint would be that once you eat here, everybody will know — the smell sticks to your clothing. But that kind of adds to the experience. It’s a small restaurant inside a grocery store. Definitely worth a try. And they sell piñatas. How can they not be great.

This is one of those places I wouldn’t have visited if a friend didn’t recommend it or if I didn’t find it on Unilocal. It’s a small grocery store with a grill in the back. Not much on the atmosphere but MAN these are some good tacos. I am hesitant sharing it on Unilocal because it’s seems like this place is a Louisville best kept secret. But it was just too good not to talk about. I had carnitas tacos and barbacoa. I like the carnitas the best. I heard the el pastor was delicious as well. So good!

Ok– let me preface this by saying that this place looks like a dive. It’s a bit formidable from the outside with signs plastered over the windows. When you walk inside, you’re greeted with the shelves of a supermarket. But the taqueria in the back? EXCELLENT! It’s set up like a grocery store deli with a counter for orders and some tables to the side. You can pick your drinks out from the freezers nearby. Lots of glass bottled drinks. Our table ordered the grilled chicken burritos and steak burritos. They were filling and flavorful. The chicken wasn’t at all dry, the steak was tender. The veggies tasted fresh and the sauces available to add were tasty without being overwhelming. For the price and the flavor it can’t be beat. Better than many Mexican places in Louisville.

Being from Ca I’ve had a lot of good tacos in my day. With that being said, this taco shop is probably the best tacos I’ve ever had in Louisville! Good prices and great quality delicious tacos!

I stumbled upon this tacqueria and was very pleasantly surprised. The kitchen and tables sit in the back of a Mexican grocery store. The atmosphere is a little awkward, especially if you do not speak Spanish. But don’t let it fool you about either the staff or the food. Everyone is very friendly. The food here is much, much closer to authentic Mexican than you will find at any of the common Tex-Mex chains around town. The tortas are outstanding and very generously portioned for an incredibly reasonable price. The same can be said of the tacos and burritos. There are televisions throughout that always have soccer games on. It might only be a step or two from fast food, but trust me — the food is outstanding and will have you coming back regularly. This one is definitely worth a try for anyone who likes Mexican food or even just a great bargain.

It’s a dive but that’s why I like it. They have the best tacos and tortas in town with speedy service. I don’t like the pastor here, the safe bet is the asada that is cut fresh daily. If you’re in a hurry, walk up to the counter in the back and place your order.

Took my kids(best food critics) and my 12 year old said, as she was pulling the steak taco away from her bite, «this is the best taco I’ve ever had!» Enough said

One of my favorite places to get some really authentic Mexican tacos. Carne asada is so good. I recommend this to everybody. It might be a little sketchy, but trust me the people are nice and the food is great!

Killer tacos. I eat there several times per month. I’m a big fan of tacos, so I am a bit picky. Authentic tacos served on the back of a store.

La Rosita is really good! It is a cute restaurant within a small Mexican grocery. The staff are very friendly. On this visit, I ordered a Torta de Pastor and Jamaica to drink. The torta was one of the best I have ever had. Generously portioned, it was wonderful. Accompanying the torta were two squeeze bottles of freshly made salsas(a red one and a green one). Both salsas were great. Also on the menu were tacos, burritos, soups and some items that are rare to find in a taqueria around here. One example is Mojarra(fried perch). I plan to return again and again to work my way through the menu. The Jamaica(sweet hibiscus tea) was delicious. I am passionate about Mexican food, and it was great to discover this marvelous place!

If you want«real» authentic Mexican food,(for those of you who know the difference, «‘real’ authentic» is not redundant) you need to check this place out. This has, by far, the best tacos in the area. I’ve had a hard time finding a good authentic restaurant since I moved to LOU from Chicago and this is by far the best overall. The staff do speak english and they are willing to help you out and answer any questions you may have regarding their food. Highlights: they don’t skimp on the meat they serve real tacos that only have cilantro and onion They have mexican bottled soft drinks! Place to sit and eat plenty of options when it comes to the type of meat you want in your taco
