Excellent customer service. After being told at another x hibachi place their waiting time was an hour+ we decided to go to Kansai. Much better decision. Wait time was quick, food was good, chef was entertaining. Overall great experience.

If you love to drink cooking oil, you’re in luck. The base ingredient of all food cooked here on the grill is oil – not just for the flames to impress, but also in the food. Scrambled eggs with oil squirted on TOP and stirred in. Broccoli stir fried in butter or oil tasted fishy. Both the steak and the chicken were boring and got their flavor from the sauce. The tell-tale sign was one of the beef steaks was brown before being cooked. The $ 16 to $ 23 meal price is for the«cooked to order» tabletop experience, not the food taste. BYO apple juice instead of paying for the $ 9.00 saki that tasted like apple juice. You expect to be seated by strangers here, but not for the cook to wait an inordinate time for the remaining seats to be filled, like we experienced. The only reason this is not a 1 star is that the salad was wonderful – crisp lettuce and a lovely ginger dressing. And the $ 5.00BV Merlot was great value. Let me know when the chef has trained IN Japan, and learned how Kobe beef and sides are stirred up there, and then I may try the nice venue again.

We’ve always enjoyed Kansai for the Sushi, some of the best in town and great prices during the week when it’s ½ off, we have done the Hibachi grill here a few times as well, it is very good. This is one of the HIbachi’s we prefer in Louisville. The chef is humorous but not overbearing during the cooking, food is cooked as requested, not over cooked as many Hibachi tend to do, and it’s not so saturated in sauce that you can’t taste the rice or vegetables that are with the food. We had a family sitting with us who had someone allergic to Mushrooms with them, there was a fresh plate of vegetables brought out just for that person so that everyone else could enjoy them and he was also able to enjoy the full meal that everyone at the table did.

I go here for the hibachi style lunch and that is what my review is based on. They do have a nice sushi menu, but I have never tried that here so I can not comment on that part of the restaurant. Very typical of other Benihanna style Japanese places. Everything tastes good and you get the typical show. I do not give them high mark because everything is just not taking it to that next level. For example the scallops are not properly cleaned and the tendon left on. Food tastes good. You will get the typical show. They give you a lot of rice. I will return. Nothing wrong with this place, but nothing stands out either.

The only time you want to visit this restaurant is if you want to leave with food poisoning, and it only took one piece of raw fish!!! And please, if you do like to live on the edge and decide to pay them a visit, don’t order sushi! They lie about the type of fish they use, the«tuna» that was on top of my sushi was anything BUT tuna. I know exactly what tuna looks/taste like. They use a bunch of stuff on top to cover it but after one piece it was obvious, it was not what was advertised to me. By far, the most disgusting meal I have ever had!

Good service and food here. Pretty surprise. I can not eat uncooked sushi at this moment. They can ask for cooked so that’s good. I ordered the Udon Soup. Which is fine, come with a lot of ingredient which is not really right for Udon Soup. Soup is the main thing for all soup dishes, too much cabbage and carrot is not really the right point even make the portion huge. But other than this. My husband choose teriyaki beef he said it’s great. And the everyday roll discount is good too. I will come back to try other thing.

I have visited Kansai a few times and every time we enjoyed the atmosphere and food. On our visit last Friday we finally had a different cook(is that the correct term) which was nice to have a different guy with a different«routine». We were perfectly satisfied with the other guy but it was a nice change. I had steak and lobster. The steak was uuuuummmmm good! The lobster was delicious but it seemed a little chewy. I am not a lobster expert so maybe it is supposed to be that way. The service was fast and friendly. I left feeling fat and sassy ready for a nap.

Two years ago, this was perhaps the best sushi spot in Louisville. I’m not sure what changed in the interim, but my most recent excursion to Kansai was very disappointing. I keep a list in my wallet detailing my ratings for every sushi roll I’ve tried at every restaurant. Over the years, I have tried 13 different rolls from Kansai. My favorites — historically — include the Sunset, the Crispy Alaskan, and the Dragon Roll. I ordered all three this time around and the quality was light years removed from what it has been in the past. My date was unimpressed and I was a bit embarrassed, being that I talked this place up to her. The sushi was so disappointing that we didn’t even box up the leftovers to take home. Our server actually brought us an incorrect item and acknowledged that she entered the order wrong, yet she didn’t offer to remove the item from my check. Disappointing. I’ll be sticking with Oishii.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I got the garlic steak and my fiancé and I split some sushi. The food is awesome and the habachi chef was very friendly and entertaining. We will probably be back if we are in the area.

My fiancé and I met a couple of our friends here for dinner at 7:00 on a Saturday night. They weren’t super busy so we were seated at our hibachi table quite quickly. Our waitress was very friendly, recommending several of her favorite cocktails to my friend and she was really knowledgeable about the menu. They have a menu of sushi rolls that are 25% off all day, everyday so we were able to get an 8 piece Yum Yum Roll for $ 5.25. My fiancé chose the garlic steak teppanyaki and I chose the shrimp. Our chef was extremely nice and funny and did a bunch of tricks for us(I’m 28 but I still love that). The food was standard teppanyaki but it was cooked very well and was delicious. I will definitely be returning!

Kansas is my favorite sushi place around. We love the 4 special rolls on the 25% off list. I think my two favorites are called the Derby and the Highlander. The service is incredibly fast– probably faster than any other sushi restaurant. We used to come here multiple times a week but they raised the prices so now we just come for special occasions.

The sushi was good, the hibachi was good, but being seated with complete strangers and having to wait till the table was full, that was weird.

Spent a wasted hour and a half here for our last experience. We have always loved the food here, in spite of the horrible service. The substandard service starts with and is led by the hostess. On multiple occasions we have watched her smile at customers and then roll her eyes when they turn their backs. Last visit we were the recipients of her apathy and disrespect. We never actually made it to dinner(after an hour, then another 30 minutes we gave up). Long story short, make a reservation, smile and nod at the hostess and enjoy your meal.

I realize we caught you on a busy night but your bus boys that are suppose to clean the bathrooms failed to do their job. Clean restrooms are vital. If your bathroom looks bad the restaurant looks bad. Instead of the manager playing bartender you should make sre your restaurant is clean and demand cleanliness. There was trash all over the restaurant in every direction. Where is the broom? Your host were sitting down, bus boys all in a corner waiting to clean a table. Solution, get in their ass and make the restaurant clean and presentable. Some chairs and booths need repair or replaced, your going down hill. Make some changes quick.

Typica Japanese restaurant in the region… hibachi grills and sushi bar. But, their menu does have a couple non-Japanese dishes, like Pad Thai noodles. Now, a couple times I did have some terrible service, but they must have smacked around a few servers, because I have had nothing but good service for many months now. It is sad that they can usually guess what I want to order right when I sit down, but that’s my own fault for going their so much and always starting off with«unsweet ice tea, miso soup and house salad». Some day I’ll change it up and confuse them. :-) They used to have quite an extensive ½-price sushi menu, but it has been drastically reduced, which is sad because I love my Fire Scallop Roll. Rarely do I get a roll that is too tight or loose, which is good. Some places have a hard time with that. I really wish they had Bibimbap on the menu. :-(
