Louisburg Cider Mill

this place was so cute with the barn structures and the old fashioned general store feeling. they had the little candy sticks and homemade caramels. Oh, you could watch them make the cider donuts… and try them with apple butter! They also make Apple Cider Cinnamon. It was delicious. I’m only not giving it a 5 because the boy behind the register was a little rude and impatient with customers. Overall, had a good time.

Kitschy, enjoyable country fun. Expect crowds during the harvest season, because duh. It won’t hamper your enjoyment much, unless you are a total curmudgeon. Go walk around, look at the working apple press in the barn, shop for some tasty treats at the general store, listen to some live music as you sip your fresh cider & mow through a couple doughnuts. We didn’t do the corn maze, but the kids that were zooming around in there seemed to be having a blast. Sugar highs may have contributed, but anyway. It was a fun way to get out of the house & enjoy the crisp fall weather in a charming county setting.

Enjoyed the family atmosphere and while the lines were insanely long to get the fresh donuts, it was worth the wait. They were very organized for large crowds and the lines moved very quickly

We actually went to time square and found a Fantastic steakhouse. Hit it mid day and was very shocked at the low prices. The food was really good and the steak sandwich was huge! Will be back !!

No trip to Louisburg is complete without a trip to the Cider Mill. Heck, there honestly isn’t much else to do in Louisburg other than the car dealership and the Cider Mill, but that’s one of the reasons that makes it great.
It’s not just a getaway for young children; adults can appreciate the general store here replete with kitschy knick-​knacks. And the donuts… oh my, my, my. The apple cider cake donuts make LCM special. Do not skip a chance to grab a half dozen or more.
Truth be told, there isn’t a heck of a lot to do here unless you’re coming to the general store or buying donuts. Sometimes you can see the actual mill in action smashing apples and bottling cider goodness. Other times there isn’t anything going on. Fall may be the best time to check out the mill with the pumpkin patch and exciting activities for the kiddos.
Louisburg is just far enough out of town to give you that country feel you associate with small town America. In reality, it’s a breath of fresh air (literally) to step onto the property and be able to relax. Don’t miss a trip (or a donut) here any day of the week.

I write this for the most part to the adults out there, as I am one without children.
I asked several people about corn mazes etc. to take out of town guests and all suggested Louisburg Cider Mill.
We drove 40 minutes to get there, got closer and saw the sea of cars and the huge lines to get in. But we drove 40 minutes so, might as well. Saturday. expect big lines!
It looked as if it would be lots of fun for kids as they had many things for them to do. We decided to take a hayride, (which we had never done) and got dropped off at the corn maze. We walked around, tried to get lost but could tell at every turn where the exit was. My adult caution **(Corn maze is way to small to be challenging)** Went to the one in Kearney, MO a few years ago and I had that «Oh no» moment.
Then we walked over to the Cider Mill portion, which is the main attraction. The line to get into the general store was ridiculous! Needless to say we didn’t wait, we walked through the mill… eehhh. Everyone had told me about the apple cider donuts. Everyone I talked to about where to go was practically drooling telling me about them. Again… a looonnngg line BUT, after everything I had heard about them, I had to get in line.
I got one cold cider, one slushy cider and apple cider donuts. The only slushy part was at the bottom of the cup after I drank everything else from my cup. Still good though.
Now on to the main part of this dance. The donuts: Let’s start by saying I love donuts, so I was excited by everyone’s endorsement. It tasted like a sugar donut, no distinct apple cider in this donut. And it was was too doughy, a little to raw tasting to me. Maybe they were so busy they were rushing?
They did have a fun banjo band playing, that was nice but there was no place to sit– too crowded.
So in short: children-​yes! Adults-​no. Though, It’s a nice experience if that is all you want.

I decided to take the kids there on a Monday when I knew that the place wouldn’t be crowded. The kids loved watching how the cider is made. Then we went to the corn maze. Since it was a weekday, it was only $ 6 instead of the regular $ 8 admission. They had a blast in the corn maze. We got a little lost but finished in about 30 minutes. Then they played on the slides for a while and did a few of the other attractions. The jumpy thing was closed, as was the hayride. But, I really did think this place was fun. We had never tried the cider before, so we bought a cup and shared it. The kids loved the cider, so I decided to purchase a jug. I paid $ 7.45 for the gallon size. I would have given this place 5 stars, except that on our way home from the Cider Mill, we stopped at Walmart to buy something and I happen to see the exact same gallon sized cider that I had purchased 15 minutes before at the Cider Mill for less than $ 5. That makes me a little mad that I paid much more for the cider at the Mill than I could have at Walmart. I will take the kids back, but won’t ever buy cider directly from the store again. I’ll buy it at Walmart next time.

Wow what an unmitigated disaster… My wife and I are new to town and decided to give this a try during their «Ciderfest». It was highly touted by employees and we love apple orchards and fall activities. We drove for about 30 minutes to get there. When we got to the parking lot we should have turned around. The place was absolutely packed. There was close to 5000 people I would estimate. We got a parking spot after crawling in traffic for ten minutes and walked half a mile to the cider mill. About halfway between our parking spot and the bridge we started tasting one the foulest smells I’ve ever experienced. It smelled like a combo of pig, cow and human feces smeared on my lip under my nose. I was almost gagging and had to breath thru my jacket. It finally subsided once we got about ten feet from the store. Right there was some concession stands serving food. I don’t know how anyone could eat with that oppressive smell.
I just checked online and someone posted on trip advisor from back in 2013 «Smelled like they let a herd of cattle with bowel problems loose in the parking lot.» so apparently it’s an ongoing issue. Their website says that’s fermenting apple leftovers. If that’s the case you need to ferment that further away from where you are serving food!
There were lines 100 feet long to get into the store to get cider donuts which is all we were really there for along with some cider. There were random people milling about and lines that you couldn’t tell where they led to. We bought some kettle corn at a vendor, fought our way to the actual cider mill and decided to call it quits. This is where the fun really began! We got to wade back thru the turd smell back to our car. We then spent literally half an hour trying to get out of the parking lot, hungry, dejected with no donuts or cider for our troubles and just wanting to get the heck out of there. There were two police officers at the exit not doing a darn thing. One was standing there with a baton and a bag of cider donuts staring off into space (he helped some idiots find their car and came back with said white bag) the other one was on the side of the road looking like he was doing calisthenics since he wasn’t doing anything else stretching his arm overhead. Not once did they step out and stop traffic on the main road to relieve the backup of about 100 cars trying to get out.
Then once we got onto the main road, we got stuck behind everyone who couldn’t get into the parking lot because it was so backed up! We spent another ten minutes waiting for people to turn right on this 2 lane road. Opposite direction there are people blocking westbound traffic trying to make a left into the same parking lot. Meanwhile people around us who were stuck in traffic are going insane and doing crazy u turns in the middle of the street to try to get away from this oppressive traffic.
If you know it is this crazy you could do a heck of a lot better job with crowd control. It literally ruined our experience and I don’t think I ever want to go back even during the week when it is supposedly less crazy.

This is a great place to go. The cider is the best and the doughnuts are GREAT also. Very well worth the trip out to the Cider Mill, take the whole family and enjoy!

What a neat little place! We got donuts and they were amazing. They have a bag of day-​old ones for $ 5 too if you’re looking to take some home at a discount.
Also loaded up on some bulk spices and a few other neat things here. What a great place to have stumbled upon. Enjoy their cider at home, and now we got to see where it was all made.

CIDER DOUGHNUTS TO SAVE THE DAY! I’ve been wanting to check out Louisburg Cider Mill for a few seasons now… I mean hot apple cider and cider doughnuts, what could be wrong with that? Well, if you’re anything like my fiancée, the 45 minute drive is what is wrong with that.
After some convincing I was able to get B off the couch and in the car… even though there were no children with us the petting zoo, pumpkin patch and corn maze all sounded like fun… this is how I sold it, anyway. Much to my dismay, when we arrived there were no activities to be had and about a 20 minute line for the goodies.
Word to the wise: check their website for activity dates before venturing out to the mill… when everything is over for the season you’re left with a gift store and not much else.
Tip #2: stand in line as long as you must to get a one of those magical doughnuts.
We had fun browsing the shelves while in line, they have quite an array of mixes, spices, jams, jellies and syrups to choose from. Finally, when we got to the front we ordered half a dozen doughnuts (should have gone for the full dozen — tip #3) a cider slushie and a hot cider. Unfortunately the hot cider was only lukewarm so I opted to just share the slushie wit B. The slushie would have been perfect on a hotter day and the doughnuts, OH THE DOUGHNUTS… soft, spiced, pillowy goodness.
For real, the doughnuts made the drive more than WORTH. IT! We also picked up some honey crisp cider, some regular cider, a soup mug and a few funky cookie cutters. All in all, we’d go back — I’d walk in the middle of the night in Dec for those doughnuts.
Seriously, get yourself some doughnuts…

I grew up at this place, and I love passing this history on to my 4 children. Love the Lousiburg Cider Mill!
We were there yesterday, and the queues were absolutely painful — especially with 4 kids! There were honestly hundreds of people ahead of us to get in to the pumpkin patch. LCM should consider cash only donuts and cider at the patch in addition to serving in the store. Please also consider a cash only specific queue in to the pumpkin patch on peak days. I think it would make for some VERY HAPPY patrons and profits.

Came for Cider Fest and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere is so «fall». The parking was a little tough because there were so many people and then there was at least a 15-​minute line for donuts and cider, but it was worth it — everything was delicious! The line into the Country Store was a 5-​minute wait, too and then we got told to take our dog out in a most disrespectful tone — just ask politely it’s not that hard. Other than that the place was a blast!

Can I just live here? I wish my parents could have left me here as a child. (Just kidding!)
One word: CIDERFEST. If you can deal with crammed parking, crying children, and long lines for cider – then do attend. As an additional benefit, they allow dogs. I’ve only been here twice (this year and last) for the festival and it’s a lot of fun. Like Susan A’s review says, the parking ain’t the greatest and its a shame she didn’t get to enjoy the festival. It’s held the last weekend of September and first weekend of October. It’s already busy at the 10am opening but there’s a ton of craft/​product tents from different vendors and an all you can eat pancake breakfast for $ 8 pp in addition to the usual activities they offer like hayrides, petting zoo, corn maze, pumpkin patch, etc. with general admission for only $ 8 bucks.
You can also see how their cider and donuts are made. Trust me, there is nothing better than a cider float (yeah, read that right!) and a FRESH cider donut.

This place was pretty awesome and it wasn’t too expensive! Immediately when we got out there I was a little worried because we had driven about 40 minutes to reach our destination and they seemed to be pretty inactive. After walking around a for a bit you start to smell the amazing scent of fresh apples!
We watched their process for making their infamous cider and I was really awed by it. After eating a few of their illustrious donuts we walked around the store and shopped a bit.
The store has all sorts of great goods from louisburg and other places. I grabbed two jars of their cider to make some bourbon cider later this year. I also got some apple butter spread, cinnamon sticks, and whole wheat figs! We also watched the donut making process which was pretty neat. I am sad we were too early in the month for the cider fest but we really loved our visit and left with a few pumpkins too! I would definitely go back.

Louisburg Cider Mill is the quintessential country store experience. Hand crafted products, packed with locally sourced fresh ingredients. Fresh Apple cider, cool and crisp. Warm cinnamon sugar coated apple cider doughnuts. What a treat for your senses. Pumpkins, apples, fruit butters, all make me eager for Falls cooler weather and there’s no place better to get in the mood than Louisburg Cider Mill. Come and celebrate Autumns harvest.

I’ve been going to Louisburg Cider Mill since I was a kid. I have great memories of watching them make doughnuts and apple cider. Even better memories are the ones of enjoying both the doughnuts and cider. These are my favorite doughnuts, so delicious. They go down easy.
This is a great place for kids and adults. Check out the store with all kinds of locally made treats, cider and doughnuts. You can also see how both the cider and doughnuts are made. Kids really seem to enjoy this part.
This place can be very crowded doing CiderFest so watch the schedule. The benefit of going during Ciderfest is live music, lots of craft and food vendors. But the downside is all the people.
During fall you can also pick your pumpkins at the patch here, go through the corn maze and see the animal farm I think this year the entrance fee is $ 8/​person.

I stuffed my face so full of apple-​cider donuts that even the goats in the petting zoo were all «dude, portion control.» That’s gotta stand for something, right?
I really enjoyed my visit to this working Cider Mill, and was impressed with their operation. They make two key products: apple cider (duh) and the aforementioned donuts. Both are absolutely top notch, and it’s just awesome to be able to enjoy both as fresh as can be, while learning how they are made. If you get here early, you can see the apples being pressed, but it seems that donuts are made all day long.
A note: No, this is not an orchard, and there are no apple trees to be seen anywhere. This place makes so much cider that to keep an orchard on property is just logistically impossible. The apples are shipped in, but they do everything from scratch once they arrive.
Another note: during the off season, they use the facilities to make their sodas and root beers, of which both I strongly approve. Try some!
Of course, there’s also the whole family fun side of the operation. This involves hayrides, pumpkin picking, and a corn maze. There’s a small petting zoo, with a friendly goose (yes, they exist) and playground equipment. At dark they light fires and there are often bands playing. They sell food, but you can also bring coolers and picnics! All of this for a one-​time fee of $ 8. Can’t beat that!
I can’t say that I’d rush back out here, but I was truly impressed with this family operation. They love their jobs, and they love the land, and they all had great spirits about them. If you go, make sure and meet the family that operates everything. You’ll be glad you did.

Look, I’m sure this place is normally great during the Halloween season… get your pumpkins in the patch, explore the corn maze, spend time outside with the kiddos, and grab some good cider. However, 2011 was not a normal year… it was very, very dry as we all know. As a result, this place is awful this year.
It’s $ 8 to get in. On a normal year, fine… this year, it just isn’t worth it. The corn maze is terrible because, as mentioned in a review from a few days ago, the corn is just in awful shape this year. You can practically see through the whole thing, and half of it is shorter than I am.
The pumpkins… we searched around for 25 minutes and didn’t find a single one we liked. In fact, we ended up just going to Hen House and getting ours there, because they were better. A good 95% of the pumpkins either had big flaws (i.e. bugs had holed in to them) or were just flat out destroyed. The other 5% were green and unripened, I assume due to a lack of moisture throughout the year.
Of course, the lack of moisture is not the fault of the Cider Mill, but it really did set up for a disappointing experience. I am excited to come back in the future when everything is in better shape, but for 2011… sorry to say, save your money.
So, after the disappointment of the patch and maze, we headed to the store, which is (I believe) open all year. I definitely liked the store! They have some decent cheese and sausage choices to make a little picnic out of, some tasty looking pickled items, mixes for muffins/​cakes, apple and pumpkin butter, tons of cider (of course), the cider donuts, and various other things. After buying a few things, I can reflect on the two items I had that were actually made by Louisburg Cider Mill — the cider and the donuts. The cider was tasty, sweet and flavorful. The donuts were moist and delicious, but had zero cider flavor at all… they just tasted like sugar donuts. Yes, I could have had about 20 of them, but I was bummed that they just tasted like plain donuts (which I love, but not when I was hoping for cider flavor).

I came here to meet up with a few of my coworkers. I was early so I walked around and took pictures. There was a band playing music while kids and parents watched. I was able to see a big truck carrying tons of apples that eventually was dumped out. Those apples then went into the building and through the machine to become cider. There were a lot of pumpkins and kids went to pick out pumpkins with their parents.
I bought a medium cold cider ($ 1.50) and a cider donut ($ 0.75). The cider was good and I tasted the apple in it. lol The cider donut was good as well. The corn maze was opened but we didn’t go. The general store sold a lot of stuff and I didn’t need anything but had a look around.
Great place to come with children or if you just want fresh cider.
