85% of all 16-​year old drivers crash within their first year behind the wheel. We focus on students with learner’s permits, those recently licensed and even experienced drivers who are ready to go beyond what they learned in their traditional driver’s ed to keep them out of this staggering statistic.

We are dedicated to teaching advanced, life-​saving driving techniques using a «hands-​on» approach. Students are behind the wheel of their own car practicing our techniques as Law Enforcement and High Performance Driving instructors provide expert 1:1 instruction.

In class, students learn basic vehicle dynamics and the physics of driving and much more.

Used by law enforcement agencies all over the country, the Skid Car is one of our most valuable teaching tools. Not a computer simulator or gimmick, the Skid Car is a real car. Equipped with with ABS brakes, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control it allows students to practice driving in rain, snow or ice. This enables students to learn skid prevention and recovery in a safe, controlled environment.

Combined with our in-​car instructors, our accident avoidance simulator enables students to practice crash avoidance in their own car in a safe, controlled environment BEFORE they encounter these panic situations on the road. Our course is truly unique in the Northern Virginia Area.

History

Established in 2011.

Blacktop Bootcamp was started by a local law enforcement officer. After working many senseless and often heart breaking crashes with teens, we have seen first hand the effects of poor driving skill and judgment. It is this experience that drove the founding of Blacktop Bootcamp.

Joined by law enforcement officers and high-​performance driving instructors who share this passion for saving lives, Blacktop Bootcamp’s mission is to save lives through better education in a hands-​on, positive learning environment.

Meet the Business Owner

Christopher I.

Business Owner

Chris is the president and founder of Blacktop Bootcamp, Incorporated. He began his high performance driving career in 1995 taking over a dozen high performance driving schools at various tracks around the east coast. He has also done drag racing, autocrossing, Solo 2 competition and even competed in the grueling One Lap of America.

Chris obtained his competition racing license with the Sports Car Club of America in 1997 where he competed in American Sedan. In that time he earned an SCCA regional championship and many podium finishes and race wins. He has driven dozens of tracks around the world as a student, an instructor, a journalist and a racer.

Since 1997 Chris has also been instructing high performance and advanced driving schools. As an in-​car and lead classroom instructor he has taught hundreds of teens and adults life-​saving driving skills. It is here that he picked up his passion for instructing the Driving Arts™.
