Duncan Family Campgrounds

Nice, wooded campsites. Could use more bathrooms, but new management seems responsive and working on improvements. Great pool! Very kid friendly, and no crazy traffic next door. About fifteen minutes from the Metro station into DC.

This campground feels like it is hurting. The staff put us in a terrible spot with a generator that runs ²⁴⁄₇ so we asked to be moved to another place. Thank goodness there was another spot available or our 2 week stay here would have been awful. The staff seemed friendly but the campground appears neglected and needing upgrading very badly. Also, it seems no one is in charge there. The staff often park their cars blocking the roads when there is ample parking off to the side. They are not paying attention to the residents and their needing to get by with their trucks/​trailers and RV’s. The staff gave us a copy of a menu but the restaurant wasn’t open. They said they have a store but it also was closed. The pool was locked and then covered with a cover so we weren’t able to swim. Something is going on there and it feels like they are one step away from closing. Not sure what is up with the two generators constantly running and wonder if they aren’t paying their bills. It seems like there are many people, possibly migrant workers living here full time and we never met anyone like ourselves just passing through. Also there are a lot of RVs parked there full time for weekend retreats. It felt like a trailer park to me.
They offer WIFI but we had lots of trouble trying to get online. I believe there are many people living there that use the WIFI so you have to try to log on either very early before six am or late in the evening after 9 pm.

I can not recommend this place at all. I couldn’t wait to leave it and move on and was sorry I had committed to two weeks here! If I had known about the generators, no store, no swimming pool no restaurant, and lousy WIFI, we would not have stayed here.

Duncan family camp had the best review on line and low pricing, plus it’s located 50 min. from Washington D.C. Excellent hospitality from everyone there, clean sites, with electrical, water and sewage hookups available. We camped next to a nature walk with a little stream and bridges. The pool was clean with a life guard on duty. Two bath houses with about 16 showers and stalls. They also offer rides (upon request) to the train station to take you into Washington D.C. We had a really great stay and we can’t say enough about the friendly nature of all the staff. We will be going back.

Rented a camper. Should have stayed in my car! Camper had no heat or working fan. We were offered a free night after we already paid for our three night stay. Why would I want to spend another night in a dirty ant ridden cold camper? Would highly suggest not looking at this campground. Shower facilities may work or may not! Completely ruined our family vacation to DC.

This is where you go when you’re one degree above homeless. A few years back I lived there for six months or so until I was able to find a job and housing. It would have been bearable except that it was winter and the management refused me a key to the bathroom. As a result, I had to bathe in water heated in a kettle. For this, of course, I was charged daily summer rates because I couldn’t pay their monthly fee in advance.
I was not the only person living here because I didn’t have another home. It is very grim what you’re forced to endure when you don’t have the financial wherewithal to get out of your rut.
This place used to be a part of the KOA chain. I wonder whether KOA pulled the franchise because KOA found out this was a high-​priced homeless shelter.

Duncan Family Campground is an average campground that could do just a bit better. It is located off in the woods and seems to be kind of nice.
The staff is friendly. They go out of their way to make sure kids are having a good time and busy. I was their on the Kids R Special weekend. Their were activities for the kids and at night they played music for the kids to run around and dance to. The bad part of that is I could hear the music very clear from inside my camper. It even drowned out the volume of my radio.
The sewer connection for my site was away from where my water and electric would be located and was actually in the middle of the spot. For me to hook up to it I would have the hose running through the middle of my camping spot.
The campground is pet friendly and has a nice dog park that I would let my dogs run around in. The dog park is off to the side near a wooded trail.
The showers and bathrooms were not overly clean but not dirty. Just needed to be cleaned on a more regular basis.
I would go back there again since it is close to home and nice for a weekend getaway.
