currently eating here, the food is great but the waitress has gathered up everyone’s ticket and she is passing them out to all the tables… awkward and weird. Our hashbrowns are overcooked/​borderline burned but undercooked on the inside.
we’re just rushing to finish eating so we can gtfo of here. place used to be ran much better.

Third visit to this place and the food and service is still the same. Outstanding

I loved this place! I tried to go light and didn’t order the double fried chicken and waffles like I wanted too. I loved the décor and the service was amazing. I will be back when in Los gatos.

How’s this for service: our group of four guys drank so much coffee that the waitress actually refilled our (initially full) sugar container while we weren’t looking. Food arrived promptly and everything was super tasty. Our group of four guys will be back until we exhaust the menu.
Loved the Pulled Pork Benedict. Crispy well seasoned pulled pork, not too much hollandaise sauce, crispy hash browns.

Went for brunch with a local friend and was glad to have tried it. Ordered the pulled pork Benedict from the daily special menu outside on the sidewalk. Solid special menu but high prices indeed, expect that from this area of LG. The pulled pork was fresh and delicious though… we sat outside on the extremely limited sidewalk seating. The inside was a little on the dark side with the blinds drawn. Our server was nice and they didn’t have fresh squeezed OJ from what I remember but I could be wrong. You also need to pay inside where they will settle your check if they don’t come out to you. I might come back here to try another item from the special menu… or something else.

Came here because it was referred by a friend of mine. The service and food was and is fantastic. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with kindness. Customer obsession is definitely a characteristic this place carries. Mike seated me and later on Marissa came to my service. She was very friendly and made sure my meal was exactly how I wanted it and made sure nothing was wrong. Mike promptly asked how my meal was and it was great. Before ordering my meal Marissa was patiently waiting for me because I didn’t know what to order. Mike comes along and asks what I like, I told him and I ended up getting a chocolate chip churro waffle — delicious. I would most certainly recommend this place simply for the ‘southern’ hospitality and great taste in food.

Oh my god!!! My son and I discovered this establishment recently and it has become our go to Monday morning breakfast place on the way to school. Believe me, it takes QUITE an eatery to get the boy out of bed early enough to have breakfast before starting his day at high school, but one mention of Southern Kitchen and he is up, dressed and out the door.
Where to begin? The chicken fried steak is crispy and covered in southern gravy with magnificent hash browns and a fluffy biscuit that would be difficult to finish if it was the only thing on the plate! Their southern special with an open faced biscuit stacked high with sausage, scrambled eggs and more country gravy is also outrageous. Pulled pork on eggs benedict??? Trust me — just get it — you won’t be sorry. And finally, who can say no to fried chicken and waffles. Perfectly fluffy yet crisp waffle with a huge portion of battered and fried chicken, once again covered with signature country gravy and butter and syrup on the side.
Keep in mind that everything we get is shared between the two of us (both of us pushing 185 lbs, mind you) so the value for your dollar is sensational. I’m going to be very sad when my son leaves for college and our regular Monday breakfast dies. I will have to make up an excuse to go to this place every week.

This is a gem in downtown Los Gatos! As you can tell by the restaurant name… they specialize in southern and comfort food.
I came here for a brunch celebrating a friend’s birthday. Since it was a weekend, we were concerned that there would be a long line… but were pleasantly surprised when the host told us that there was a group finishing soon so we wouldn’t have to wait long. He was very polite and even came out and updated us that the group was still sitting at the table chatting so we weren’t left wondering what was taking so long.
Everything on the menu looked amazing. I ended up with the fried chicken waffles which has fried chicken IN the waffle itself. SO DELICIOUS. The texture of the waffle almost reminded me of a churro and the sweet and salty is perfect! I also tried some of my friends’ omelette which had avocado and … lots of other stuff in it and that was amazing too. I think all of the food I tried that day (including all my friends’ entrees, haha) was pretty mind blowing. I really like their biscuits too… they come out SUPER warm and fluffy. Would definitely come again when I find my self in Los Gatos!

This place is super tiny so be prepared for a wait. I got country fried steak and eggs which was pretty good. The food took FOREVER to get to our table though. Yes they were busy but also the max capacity of the place is 45 people so it didn’t make that much sense. The service employees seemed unfriendly and maybe stressed? Maybe someone didn’t show up for their shift. I guess what I’m saying is that it wasn’t the best experience and the food was just ok.

This is a cute little diner that has that home cooked smell and cozy type of atmosphere. We came on a weekend and had to wait some time but we indulged in the free coffee.
If you have the entertainment book there’s a coupon here for up to $ 13 off! It’s a deal! I ordered the corn beef hash with eggs and the fiancé got the country scramble. Food was yum! Instead of toast you have the option of getting cornbread!
Will be back for sure!

Let me just say I’m not insane enough to go on a weekend. But the food is so good, I can understand why people do.
I prefer to go during lunch hour during the week and it’s not crowded at all, so you can enjoy the amazing apple french toast or savory biscuits and gravy. They have lovely fat sausages in casing. The eggs were done exactly as I requested.
I’ve had a BLT and the bacon was perfect… not too crisp but the fat was rendered.
The soups are enjoyable. The hash brown were very crisp.
Bathrooms were clean. Parking is a bit of a pain since there’s no lot but I can usually find a spot. And I don’t mind waking.

Great bfast place close to the Los Gatos Hotel where we could not get Bfast passed 9:30 after tennis.
Came here Sat and had fantastic friendly waitress who was very attentive and paid attention to my dietary needs– the meals came out fast and perfect– really great job.
Came here Sun– had rude waitress who we had to keep asking fro water, took forever to serve us, however, the kitchen delivered again– sorry but friendly service comes with food so have to take a star away for this– hopefully she just had a bad day and customers do not have to face her like this on daily basis.
The hostess as well as the «clean-​up» crew is friendly, fast and attentive– food is fresh and tasty.

Southern Kitchen is my go to breakfast joint after a long morning hike at castle rock (which is a beautiful hike BTW!). Because after a usually, really early and long morning hike — I NEED hearty and substantial food or I will literally shrivel up and disappear into thin air.
For a fulfilling breakfast, this is the place. And i’d say, it is much more a little breakfast café, than a «brunch» spot. The concept of «brunch» (to me) consists of a bougie, mimosa/​alcohol driven, new american/​fusion type of cuisine. Which is not this place.
I highly recommend:
(1) The Chicken Fried Steak — is cooked perfectly! Super tender and juicy on the inside with a delicious thin crispy breaded exterior. Their house special gravy is pretty tasty as well and doesn’t overwhelm the seasoned hunks of chicken patties. (Yes I meant hunks not chunks, because they’re hunky pieces of meat)
(2) Buckwheat Banana Pancakes — is some type of amazing. I really don’t know how much healthier buckwheat batter is compared to regular batter, but it really DOESN’T MATTER! Because the taste, is just so unique and simply delicious.
(3) French Toast and Waffles — are just a hit here, personally not my favorite since i don’t really like sweet things. But according to the mouth of my peers, they’re something special.
(4) Corned Beef Hash — is an acquired style here, I’d say you either like it or not. I’m used to having my corned beef shredded or cubed and didn’t know what to do with the thick slab/​patty version I received here. Although my world was turned upside down at first bite, the flavors and more so the texture was pretty good.
(5) The GRITS — is a simple side dish but it’s PERFECT! And you may say you can’t go wrong with GRITS, but YES. I’m telling you, yes you can. The taste of corn is fresh and light, the texture is perfectly soft and creamy, yet keeping the nitty gritty bits that make it grits. Comes with a generous portion of butter you can add according to personal preference, then salt and pepper to taste. It’s just a MUST, if you’re a fellow corn obsessor like I am.
Not recommended:
(1) The Benedict — is just simple here and not particularly special in any way. So if you order them here, don’t expect them to be amazing.
(2) The NORMAL breakfast — which includes sausage, scrambled plains eggs, sunny side eggs, etc. If you order a normal/​continental type breakfast — PLEASE do not be that MORON that then complains that you can make it at home. I have nothing but this face for you –_​_​–
Overall, just go with the items that are recommended. Although it is a little pricey for what it is, i’d choose this place over LG café any day!

My boyfriend told me about this place & seemed to enjoy it, so I bookmarked it as a place of interest.
He called on a Monday morning, and they only had seats at the counter. This is a very small restaurant with a maximum 45 person capacity, so that’s understandable. They don’t take reservations, so we arrived around 11:30am and thankfully, it was mostly empty.
We ordered the breakfast of champions (his) and the chicken apple cinnamon sausage with eggs (mine). The latter comes with a choice of toast, cornbread, muffin, or house biscuit. A nice variety of options… I chose the muffin, which my waitress forgot about :/​I was a bit irritated, but she remembered towards the end of our meal and brought it out at the last minute.
As we ate, I didn’t feel that the quality justified the hype & popularity of this place. Is it cruel to say that I felt like I was eating overpriced food from Denny’s??? Luckily, I had purchased a Groupon ($ 18 for $ 30 worth of food), so we only had to pay a difference of ~$ 5. The service was below average, the food seems to be more quantity versus quality based, and it’s in Los Gatos, so they can charge high prices and get away with it. Sorry Southern Kitchen, I really wanted to like you, but it’s just not meant to be.

LOVED the southern style brunch eats here! Best country fried steak I have had in california (and maybe just in general too).
It’s so hard to find really good southern food in the Bay Area, so if you’re looking for some comfort food, you will feel right at home in Southern Kitchen. Pancakes were also delicious — got the blueberry/​banana pancakes. Very fresh fruit and great flavor.

I hate to write this review because the service was excellent but…
I was sorely disappointed in Southern Kitchen. Breakfast is one of those meals that is fairly simply to make at home, so if I am eating out then it better be good. We arrived later in the morning and decided to have a seat at the bar. Southern Kitchen is pretty small, I think it said like 45 occupancy or something. It’s great that it is nice and cozy though.
The menu has all of the breakfast basics covered at pretty normal prices. We opted to share the corn beef hash and biscuits and gravy. We chose hash browns, scrambled eggs and cornbread for the sides. My first sign of worry was the luke warm food. My first bite of gravy was warm which turns into hard, lumpy gravy. Not a good taste. I was told that the gravy was the best thing on the menu when I ordered it, and if that is the case, then they are in real trouble. We asked for the hash browns to be cooked well done. They looked the same and were mushy. The corn beef was alright and the scrambled eggs were the best thing we ate. That is sad that scrambled eggs were the highlight of breakfast. Cornbread was also bland. Even honey couldn’t save it.
Like I said before, the service was excellent. But I wouldn’t return to a restaurant because the service was good. The food needed a lot of work.

Who doesn’t love breakfast? Who doesn’t love pancakes? Who doesn’t love … bacon??? It’s been a year or so (maybe even longer) since the hubs and I ate at Southern Kitchen but boy, I’ve never forgotten their eggs benedict or fluffy biscuits and gravy. YUM! Lately the hubs and I have been in LG wondering the Farmer’s Market on Sundays and we tend to walk past Southern Kitchen and say «we need to stop in here again for breakfast». Generally we don’t on Sundays because football’s on an the hubs MUST be home in time for kick-​off. But last Sunday the smell of bacon and syrup was just to much to ignore and I stopped in to place and order to-​go.
There is ALWAYS a wait for a table so be ready folks and the only place to wait is outside. They have chairs, benches and two small bistro tables to wait at and they provide hot coffee out there while you wait. Since my order was to-​go, I just popped my head in, placed my order and sat outside in the warm winter sun (on of the perks of living in CA lol). I didn’t have to wait long before the waiter popped his head out to let me know my order was ready.
I paid up, grabbed my bag of warm deliciousness and headed to the car. The entire car smelled SO GOOD and my tummy was rumbling. We arrived home and our order was still hot and ready to be devoured. We plated up, turned on the TV and enjoyed our breakfast. Here’s what we ordered:
Breakfast burrito: This was just «okay». I think the slivers of ham got lost with the potato and the whole thing needed more cheese and some salt. I think bacon would have been better than ham. But needless to say, we ate the entire thing!
Buckwheat banana pancakes: WOW! These babies were huge and lots of em. Three massive cakes with loads of banana’s. The order was actually so big that we had two cakes leftover for breakfast the next day! Note to self, leftover pancakes aren’t nearly as good as fresh ones. Yes yes yes, I’d order these again in a heartbeat.

Wanted to try a new place for brunch and chose this place. Was really excited to try their biscuits and gravy based on the name of this place.
On a Saturday afternoon, we had to wait quite a good 30 minutes outside. The restaurant is fairly small, and very much diner style. We got the corner booth, which was a bit hard to get in and out without bumping the table next to us.
Service was pretty good, and I ordered the corned beef hash, egg whites, hash browns, and a side of biscuit and gravy. Fatty status. My friend got the ham plate with toast, eggs, and hash browns.
Our food came out pretty quick, and so did an annoying fly that stayed with us the whole time. My corned beef hash was out of a can, egg whites weren’t too watery, and hash brown was decent, nothing special. Was so bummed about the biscuit and gravy though! Gravy was flavorless, and the biscuit was dense and hate to say it, but KFC biscuits are way better. Sad but true.
Got to try a new place, but best to stick with the places that are good.

Eines der besten (amerikanisch-​mexikanischen) Frühstücke ever. Sehr zu empfehlen. Die Portionen sind riesig.
Das einzige Manko: Der Stuhl war klebrig wegen Ahornsirup anderer Gäste. Aber der Busboy hat ohne Mucken alles sauber gemacht.
