Ronald T Matsuura, DDS

This is the most wonderful, caring dentist I have ever been to. And believe me, I have been to enough dentists to know the good from the bad! I walked into Dr. Matsuura’s office not so long ago feeling almost hopeless, in incredible discomfort and not even wanting to look at me in the mirror due to what another dental office did to me.
Dr. Matsuura made me feel at ease right away. I was so comfortable with his gentile bedside manner that I decided if anyone could help me, he could. Well, he did! I’m not an easy case because I have a very small mouth. Making a denture to fit me was a challenge for sure! But he did not give up on me until he knew I was comfortable enough to walk out of his office with a smile I can have confidence in!
He is the BEST and I would recommend him to anyone!

So it’s been awhile since I’ve been to the dentist due to some personal reasons in the past with no job and insurance. Even after having a job and insurance I was afraid to go. Probably because I was kinda dramatized when I was a kid. Anyways, after finally getting over my fear, I decided to see Dr Ronald Matsuura. It’s been over a year now and so far so good. No complains here. He made me feel comfortable and asks me if i’m doing ok, while working on my teeth. He even said if I needed to take a break, just to let him know. So that meant a lot to me. I trusted him.
I’ve had extractions and gotten a porcelain crown done. And also got 2 bridges done. It took me awhile to get used to the bridges. I even thought and felt it wasn’t on right. So I called to see if he was able to check my bridge again. And right away, asked me to come back when I was able to. So I came back right away. And bridge was on right. I just had to get use to how it felt =) I had a lot of questions, because of all this being new to me and having my teeth sensitive. Dr Matsuura has been professional and answered all my questions.
The staff and assistants are wonderful as well. Greets me right away when I come in and they are very helpful with my questions and assisting Dr Matsuura.

I’ve been visiting Dr. Matsuura’s clinic either here or in Sunnyvale since I was 16 I think? It’s been 6 years thus far.
Overall good service. I live equidistant from both offices so getting there isn’t an issue really. Also appreciate how there’s always a car magazine so I try to catch up whenever I can which is always nice.
Brother’s 6 month smiles plan came out great. My brother wanted to knock it out before college and Dr. Matsuura was able to finish his work in only 3 and that too rather well!
Perio-​protect was recommended for me 3 years ago because of my rather shitty gums. I used it for less than the time I was supposed to and wasn’t good about following my regimen instead choosing to get an electric toothbrush, using crest pro health for sensitive gums, and trying to do more than the occasional floss. When I went for my visit 6 months later, the hygienist and dentist were under the impression the perio-​protect was working extremely well. So that was amusing I suppose.
–1 star for their scheduling however. I’ve often booked appointments and the day of or a few days before, I get a call from their office to reschedule. It’s inconvenient because I have to cancel other plans and work around their scheduling mishaps.

I wished I had listened to the Unilocal reviews before coming here. At first I felt it was the office staff that was just very unorganized, but soon realized they just haven’t been properly trained and it’s really a reflection of the dentist. I had tried to get help with him replacing an implant crown that had fallen out and it took months for him to say, he couldn’t help without me paying him thousands for the equipment to fix it. I found another dentist who could and Dr. Matsuura charged me $ 25 to email my X-​rays to the new dentist. It gets worse because it took one month and finally me going into the office for them to send the email after I had already paid them. My new dentist told me this was an easy fix using standard equipment most dentists had (he had it fixed in ½ hour). I don’t like to write negative reviews, but Dr. Matsuura does not respond to emails and the empathy of the office is non existent.

Got the six month smile braces from Doctor Matsuura! I am extremely happy with the doctor because after 38 years my snaggle tooth is no longer!
Doctor Matsuura made me feel important when in his office. He was very professional and from the way he handle my sensitive teeth, very experienced!
I highly, highly, highly recommend Dr. Matsuura for any teeth work. I always tell people about him especially because my teeth are straight and I can smile or laugh without feeling like people are staring at my snaggle tooth! Its different now! I smile with confidence, almost like… My teeth look better than yours…

Worst service ever!!! don’t go here. Dr. Matsura is a very knowledgable and nice dentist. The first time I went I did feel a little like I was in a time share presentation or on a car lot but I thought just get this done and over with… right? Bull! They are scam artists here don’t go. Don’t go to the dentist Dr. Matsura and don’t mess with the bride the week of her wedding. I sent my fiancé in for a cleaning to the dentist yesterday. We were clear he needed his teeth cleaned for the wedding this weekend… They came in told him a lie saying they don’t get paid for cleaning since he is HMO and if he cold buy and upgrade they would clean his teeth. She made him feel bad like she was going to starve to death that they don’t get paid. boo hoo bull.
THIS IS A COMMON SCAM! if you have HMO dental when you choose them as your provider they get a monthly check for you, they get a check once a month weather or not services are provided. They actually make more money off you if they dont do services or if you upgrade to a service like deep cleaning. So yes they do get paid and sometimes more than a fee for serivice would.
So I called them this morning. Man I must have some built up aggression because I let them have it. and told them I will be doing a FB and a Unilocal as well as notifiying our insurance of the scam and lies they are pulling. she tried to tell me there was a miscomunication and that the cleaning is covered but I let her know she broke the number one rule… Don’t mess with a bride the week of her wedding.

I agree with what everyone else said, Dr. Matsuura is interested in making as much money as possible, not doing what is best for your teeth. My first time ever going into his office he was selling this Peri-​protect $ 1500 mouth guard. The product is not FDA approved, it’s not recommended by the ADA, it’s certainly not covered by my insurance. I had to tell him no then go home and do lots of research. I expect a good dentist to give me the proper treatment, not high pressure sales tactics. Secondly there were a lot of people in his office getting teeth pulled, I wonder if they really needed it.

The tooth that Dr. Matsuura was so eager to pull and replace with a dental implant was saved, and quite nicely, by another dentist. While Dr. Matsuura clearly wanted to pull my tooth and do a dental implant, the approach of my new dentist was «we’re going to do everything we can to save your tooth». And, he did!

Matsuura was my dentist for years out of convenience, but that’s not a good enough reason to continue seeing a dentist who has so much to learn about professionalism, decency, and honesty. The dentistry itself was fine. No problems with his practical knowledge of his craft. That wasn’t enough though!
For example, he’d be working on my mouth but start yakking with his dumb doofus of a secretary, who’d pop in rudely and interrupt my appointment. Nothing was so urgent that it couldn’t wait for him to get done with a patient. I mean, really. And while I’m at it, the dumb secretary was a hostile biatch. She’d see me only twice a year but always managed to be holding a grudge about who knows what — you know the type. Always pissed off that their customers exist, even though we’re the ones enabling their bosses to pay their salaries. Really high-​strung, like the world depended on her. Anyway… after she left, I thought things would improve, but no.
Matsuura also had different assistants help with cleanings who were totally insensitive jerks. No bedside manner. That’s a big deal! He himself was always nice to me, but he wasn’t always the one working in my mouth. One jerk-​off actually scolded me as «not being truthful» with him because I didn’t tell him clearly enough that something hurt. Um, dumbass, you have my mouth pried open and are poking around with tools, HTF was I supposed to speak anything but a grunt?
I found his practice of trying to talk people (myself included) into spending money on things they didn’t need, to be very sleazy. Just because you work in Los Gatos doesn’t mean try to rip everyone off. Not all the residents are as loaded as he thinks, and even if they were, the more $ people have, the more protective of it they tend to be. I finally got fed up!
Overall, I’ve known more people who have stopped seeing Dr. Matsuura than have started. He’s got a dream location in an area where there aren’t many competing dentists, and therefore does not have to be as careful.

Dr Ronald Matsuura is a business man. I too was offered $ 6000 worth of high tech remedies and snake oils, more than once, that were highly recommended by Dr Matsuura. I simply did some research myself using his treatment plan and approved what I thought was needed. I like the fact that this Dr offered me plenty of choices including some cutting edge type stuff, but in the end these are my teeth and I make the final decision. When insurance doesn’t cover items listed on the treatment plan I start to wonder if the procedure or product is truly needed. Access to information is just too easy now-​a-​days to have any one person or insurance group say what’s best.
