This is my 3^rd pregancy. First time at this office. I have to say that this has been the best experience so far with an OBGYN. Dr. Contro is everything that you could ask for as a doctor during pregnancy. He has such great bedside manners and really truly cares. He answers ALL of my questions with great level of patience. This pregancy has been much harder on my body then the others, and his office has been instrumental on getting me through it. The entire office is amazing. Noni (front desk) is so caring and handles anything that I need. She is very friendly and welcoming when I come in for my visits. She also gets my questions answered with rapid speed. The nurse, Timisha is just amazing as well. Always friendly and attentitive. A few others that I have dealt with a few times since going there that have just been friendly, great service and helped when needed is Barbara and Dr. Fierro. The office staff are all just the best and the doctors of some of the best doctors that I have ever been with. I am very thankful that I found them for this pregnancy.

I went to Dr Contro exactly three years ago when we decided we want a baby. Went through all genetic testing and got pregnant on our own two months later. No regrets on the testing part because I found out I require special vitamins and aspirin to take all my life now. Dr. Contro did all tests that was available. In may 2013 he delivered my baby girl via c-​section because she was overdue without contraction and I carry a mutation that can cause bleeding to death if I have natural delivery. I am really hoping that if get pregnant again, he will be the one to take care of me.

I have now had a third c-​section (my sixth c-​section total) with Dr. Contro. His work is consistently amazing and I am always impressed with his attention to detail every single time. I would recommend his to anyone who is going to have a c-​section. He is also an incredibly nice person. His office staff are all very lovely ladies and have always been delightful to deal with. I cannot imagine going to another doctor to deliver my babies or for annual exams. As long as Dr. Contro is in business I plan to remain a patient. Been going to him for 23 years. He’s delivered all 3 of my babies and performed 2 surgeries on me. Now, my 18 year old goes to him. Bar none, Dr. Contro is the best Doctor on the planet. Can’t say enough great things about him.
He’s incredibly thorough. He can solve any problems that other doctors want to put you on anti depressants for. He goes the extra mile. He does extensive panels of blood work and gets to the bottom of everything.
I feel so good in his hands. There are thousands of Doctors in this valley that are good, but Dr. Contro is GREAT. He’s absolutely FANTASTIC.

Update to my review. Dr. Fierro and Contro helped us get pregnant finally! That was last feb. We now have our baby girl thanks to them. They did great taking us through every step through the pregnancy. We were able to get the blood testing we needed and they even helped us with the lab to be sure we were not over charged. We had several ultrasounds and that was so assuring. I have friends that went to others and did not get nearly the amount of ultrasounds we got. On the day of delivery Dr. Fierro talked me through everything. We had a breach baby so we had a C-​section. We planned on a v-​birth but she wouldn’t turn. So C-​section it was. She came out healthy and I recovered very quickly. I had another friend give birth a week after me via c-​section by a different dr. And it took her twice as long to recover. I highly recommend Dr. Fierro and Dr. Contro! They are the best!

Don’t even get me started with how much I love this doctor and his staff. Amazing, experience and Contro is as good as it gets. My c– section was amazing, my scar is basically non existent, my recovery flawless and my stomach flat after he sewed me up. He takes care of you and really cares about his patients. On top of that he graduated top of his class from Stanford and he’s one of the smartest people I have ever known and so educated on childbirth he could do it in his sleep.

The office staff is useless. They say «they do not have the manpower to call your insurance company.» They do not return your phone calls. Be prepared to chase them for appointments and for follow-​up from the doctor. Dr. Contro is very nice but if you cannot get past the front desk, I suggest you go somewhere else.

Sooooo happy i found Dr. Contro. I came to him based on 3 recommendations from friends and clients. My husband and I were on the market for a new doctor to help us get pregnant. We came from a clinic where we had been extremely let down with bottom of the barrel treatment, and although we were hesitant to start the process over with a new doctor and new tests it was the best decision we ever made. Already in one month i have met the doctor I have made huge leaps and bounds on new findings on what i need help with. I am on my first medicated cycle and Dr. Contro and his office are on top of it. I know it could take a while but now i know I have a doctor who treats me like i am important and I just know that i am in the right hands. I have such a sense of peace after choosing Dr. Contro to help us in this fertility journey. I have already told a few clients and friends about him and a coworker just made an appointment with him! Thank you Dr. Contro and office for making my husband and I smile again!

I have been seeing Dr. Contro for 28 years, he delivered all 3 of my babies, and not once did he mention C-​section. He is by far the best OB/​GYN on the planet! His staff is awesome, including the ladies that handle Insurance/​billing. I am now 55 and I live 80 miles away, and I travel those 80 miles every 3 months to see him. I am no longer having babies, but Dr. Contro doesn’t just cater to pregnant women. He is truly caring and I trust him with my life. I suffer from depression and Dr. Contro monitors my mental and physical health very closely.

Truth, Dr. C will treat you well throughout your pregnancy. However, before you pick this doc, make sure you do your research and choose your delivery method before you see him. He is on major time constraints so his visit are quick to get you in and push you out. I have seen the same comments posted in other reviews regarding my check ups with him. Such as, my baby is really big (said this throughout my pregnancy actually). At my 8 month check THAT is when he told me he ONLY does c-​sections. I had a sister in law that delivered vaginally with him over 10 years ago which confused me. Anyhow, I asked why and he stated the same thing that other reviewers posted. I wonder if that was the real reason? I feel that he and his staff glorified a procedure that he pushes (not forces) on his patients just to reap the benefits from your insurance. Maybe it has something to do with the plastic surgeon that either shares the office or is right next door to him? Either way, I really feel that in the end, it’s all about the money and NOT the patient. Oh sure, you get 2 more weeks of disability, which he also glorified. This has got to be unethical! My opinion on the topic is that c-​sections should be used only when there is danger to you our your baby. All respect for this MD went down the drain. My water broke a week after that last visit and I delivered (with a different doctor) a 6.5 lb. 19″ baby that was and is today very healthy.
Now about the staff, they are somewhat friendly… some of them anyway. His nurse is great. The front room assistant is great at what she does, but if she isn’t there be wary. The backroom or other assistant has a piss poor attitude. Some major advice: stay on them regarding your disability claim! They sat on mine for many weeks. When I realized what they had done I called and was told only the front room assistant handles that and she was out of town, but don’t worry, SDI had a waiting period. Um, ok? …SO why are you adding to that time when you could send it in and they take care of it when needed? I almost didn’t make my mortgage payment! Bottom line, when you question them and call them on their mistakes, they get really nasty with you. Only resolution was for me to show up, ask and pay for a copy of my records, obtain my SDI paperwork (that they were supposed to send in for me!), and left that office never to return. Good riddance!
I am now with an awesome practice that provides the best care for me and takes as much time needed to answer my questions, thoroughly. If and when I decide to, I have the confidence in knowing that my doctor will be there to deliver my next baby, with whatever method I choose.
I am happy for others positive experiences. Unfortunately, this was not the case for me.

I just recently came back to Dr Contro office this year for my annual pap. My primary doctor just wasn’t getting enough culture needed and would have to ask me back to do another pap… no thank you, you will have to wait until next year!
I have been a previous patient of Dr Contro — delivered my daughter in 2001. All of the office visits were pleasant. The staff was great in 2001 as is staff in 2013. At times, they can be backed up or Dr Contro has to take off for the hospital to deliver a baby. But I understand and just go with the flow if someone pregnant needs to be seen ahead of me due to an emergency.
Because my daughter was breach and I couldn’t even imagine the pain if they tried to turn her (my stomach was so stretched out it hurt during ultrasound), I was scheduled for a c-​section. Dr Contro NEVER forced me to have a c-​section. I liked the fact that I had an option to do a c-​section if I wanted it or not (breach or not breach) as I have zero tolerance for pain (yes, I’m a baby)!
On delivery day, I was the first patient of the day, so I had to be at hospital by 6am. Once I got there, for some reason, the hospital didn’t have me in the schedule. They contacted Dr Contro and he told them I will be having the baby that morning, so they scrambled to get me in. He is respected at Good Sam and if you tell him you are unhappy about something, he WILL do something about it. Everything went well during the delivery. I had a 6 lb 10 oz baby… big for me as I am tiny (the skin around my belly button was bleeding the day of delivery).
Fast forward to this year for my annual pap. I got my annual pap done by Dr Fierro. I think he is awesome — very caring, took time to talk about concerns and explained things without feeling rushed! I definitely will go back to him for my annuals. Actually, I think the male OB/​GYN are more gentle than the females.
The only bad thing I can say about the office is that at times it is hard to find a parking space.

I have been a very happy patient of Dr. Contro’s since 1989. Delivered my daughter vaginally in 1990. I am not understanding all of the reviews from women who said he insisted on a C section, as it never came up during my pregnancy.
Awesome caring staff. My daughter is now a patient (22 years old), and also very happy.
Appointments are easy to schedule, the wait may be 5 or 10 minutes, but never longer.
For my annual visits, I basically see whoever is available. All of the nurses are great, and they remember personal details, which is nice.
Always a warm welcome.

BEWARE!
I saw Dr. Contro for years, and never missed my yearly check-​up.
How this goes is «if you are in baby-​making mode» then you are important, and if not-You’re Not! It’s all about the money here!
(Could be why the huge percentage of C-​sections.)
I had always known this, but set it aside since I had already gone to him for years. Well that was until I had gone to another OB because I was having sever pain during my cycle. Turns out that for over the last 8 – 10 years, Dr. Contro, and both nurse practitioners missed an ovarian cyst that ruptured and put me in the hospital, and not 1, but 2 large Fibroids the size of grapefruits! (Gee doc, you think that could explain my fatigue and pain during ovulation I talked about for 2 years.)
Since the Fibroids are so large, they now cannot be removed without a hysterectomy. If they had been caught early, then they could have easily been removed.
I had always believed that going to the same doctor was good since they «knew» who you were and could tell if anything was wrong. I will never do that again.

So happy we found Dr. Contro. I had a difficult pregnancy and the first Dr. I had we now only refer to as Dr. Doom and Gloom. She made sure to remind us of every negative scenario. A good friend familiar with many Doctors told us about Dr.Contro. We so much appreciated Dr. Contro’s calm, patient demeanor. We had already been told by our first Dr. and 2 other high risk experts I needed a c-​section. Contro agreed and I am convinced he gave me the best care possible! Nurses at the hospital told me he takes about 45 min more than other Dr. s sewing up after a c section although all are pd the same.
He also has such a wonderful staff, most have been with him for many years.
I have referred a few friends that have also been happy with his expertise, years of knowledge for excellent referrals if needed, and his kind, professional and efficient staff.

@ all those previous reviews that state Dr. Contro convinces all his patients to have c-​sections. I’ve had two babies delivered by Dr. Contro and he NEVER suggested a C-​Section. Both pregnancies and deliveries were wonderful experiences thanks to him and his wonderful staff. I’ve been a patient for 11 years and have been exceptionally happy with his services and support.

If you’re looking for a vaginal birth, Dr. Contro is NOT the doctor for you. Read the above reviews! He thinks that babies are not meant to come out of women’s vaginas. Really Dr. Contro? He’s known for his warm, convincing personality and will have you convinced that you NEED a C-​section. Do your research on the dangers and complications from cesareans!

I cannot write enough great things about this doctor! We have moved out of the Bay Area and although I do love my ob/​gyn at my new location in Austin, I miss Dr. Contro and staff.
My two daughters he helped bring into this world, I will forever be grateful to his diligence, knowledge, and confidence in his trade of choice.
There will always be the naysayers for any doctor, with so many to pick from and so many different personalities out there, it is par for course.
Loved his bedside manner, the time he took with me at each appointment, etc. Just a lovely man!

I actually chose Dr. Contro as my ob/​gyno after I found out I was prego (at almost 14 weeks may I add) by Google’n «best OBGYN in San Jose, CA.» I came across his name and saw he was in Los Gatos– not too far from my South San Jose location. Then I tried to research him and found NO NEGATIVE reviews. I decided to book an appt to meet him. I had an HMO insurance plan at the time and found out that his office only accepts PPO plans. Immediately I contacted my employer to get it switched. After many hoops, it worked.
I saw Dr. Contro after the insurance switch, by this time I was about 17 weeks. I am used to crowded Dr’s offices and long waits. I was 1 of 2 patients in the office and after I filled out my new patient paperwork was seen in about 5−10mins. May I add the staff is awesome! They were so nice!
My fiancé and I anticipated to find out the sex of the baby during this appt. He was so nervous that he waited outside. Some of the nurses saw him through a window– shaking, talking to himself and looking a wreck. They told me it was the cutest thing they had ever seen lol
We were then called in and found out that Dr. Contro only planned to do a physical and I would have to come back for an ultrasound. The nurse saw the look on our faces and immediately excused herself. We were both heartbroken. We had hoped so badly we would find out if we would be purchasing baseballs and bats to decorate the nursery or everything pink, foofy and covered in bows. When the nurse returned to the room she said she told Dr. Contro that there was no way we could wait to have the ultrasound at a later appt and that he agreed to do it that same day. YAY!
Dr. Contro was so thorough during the ultrasound. He waited until the very last second… BASEBALLS it is! Exactly what we had hoped for! My fiancé cried hysterically. I think Dr. Contro freaked out a bit lol The nurse entered back into the room and offered my fiancé some tissues and water. She said that in all of her years, she had never seen any man or father-​to-​be react in the way that my fiancé did. Through the hysteria and tears, my fiancé managed to utter, «I’ve been waiting my whole life for this moment. I’ve always wanted a son.» Needless to say, Dr. Contro made our lives.
Through the pregnancy, Dr. Contro was the sweetest! He always greeted me and said goodbye with hugs and a smile. He referred to my fiancé by his first name during all of my appointments. He was always comforting and made me feel special. As an expectant mother, Dr. Contro and his ENTIRE staff made me feel at home. I could not ask for anything more.
I was born with a brittle bone disease and it was a concern of mine for as long as I can remember that being pregnant would be a challenge. Dr. Contro and I decided a C-​section would be the best delivery for me as a regular birth would probably be too much for my body to handle. My other Drs. had also agreed to this. I was scared but Dr. Contro reassured me everything would be ok.
On the day of surgery, I was so nervous. But when Dr. Contro came into my room before we headed to the OR and greeted me with a big smile, I knew I was in good hands. During the surgery Dr. Contro hummed and music played in the background. The music really helped me relax. It took all but 45 mins to get my son delivered healthy and sew me back up. In the recovery room, Dr. Contro rallied up all of the new Grandparents, my fiancé, new baby, and my nurse and had us all take a picture. He later told me, «I want you to do two very important things when you get home, take it easy and make sure you send me that picture.»
Even with the gazillion babies that Dr. Contro has probably delivered, he made me feel as if my pregnancy, delivery and new addition to my family was very special. I could not have asked for better care and a better Dr. If ever he was rated low then I ask you to pay no attention. With as many Drs. as I’ve seen in my life (tons) because of my brittle bone condition, I have NEVER had a better doctor. I highly recommend him because of the entire package you get. #1 staff, vast knowledge, receptiveness but overall a Dr. who truly does care.
Whether this is your first child or fifth child, Dr. Contro is the man and I will definitely vouch for his A++ care.

I was recommended to Dr. Contro’s office and only heard high praises, I even checked Unilocal first!!! I was actually really excited to go in. The girl on the phone was suuuuuper nice and spent some time helping me schedule a time I could actually do, instead of just brushing me off and getting annoyed (I have a srsly insane schedule). She told me I could talk about all my issues get some questions answered, etc.
I got there with my paperwork filled out and about 3 mins early. Since I have such a busy schedule it’s hard when I have to wait. I mean I think I only waited about 10 or so minutes after my scheduled time which wasn’t too big of deal, but worth mentioning. The first girl was super nice, helpful, and just great. She saw that I was a cash patient so recommended what I would do to get my testing cheaper etc.
When my doctor came in we talked and she told me right off the bat that I would need to come back to talk about 1 of my issues (the main one! And reason I actually went there) so she started getting some info regarding the other and went on to recommend various drugs that would handle it. I told her I was not interested in any drugs. She said that unfortunately that is where most of the solution lie now, is with a drug. She had a few other suggestions which she just sort of put out there, but I never got any real info on.
In regards to birth control I said I didn’t have any data on it to decide if it was good or bad as I have hear lots of bad stuff. I would think she would be the one to help me differentiate the types and give me data. Instead she said to let her know when I had decided one way or the other. She continued saying over and over how much I needed to get insurance because everything we were going to be doing was going to coat a lot. I didn’t even know what we were doing and why. I guess I just felt like she jumped into a lot of differentbthungs without finding the actual problem first.
Honestly I really want to like them. I never met the actual doctor and maybe he was different, better etc. It’s a nice office and I am not quite sure what happened with me not feeling like I got any answers in the end. I feel like I shouldn’t have gone to the dr at all, cause nothing changed. It was probably something where I needed and wanted one thing out of the visit, and that isn’t what they delivered.
Overall I felt like it was a total waste of time and really expensive for what service I ended up getting!

Excellent knowledge, compassionate bedside manner, and a friendly professional staff. What else can any patient expect. My opinion from Dr. Contro comes from a male perspective as my wife is his patient. Well I suppose I could try and see if he would take me on as a patient but i think that would be pretty weird.
Anyways from the moment we got there for our first appt, we noticed a huge change from our former OB/​GYN. The office staff was receptive and the RN and PA was so kind and happy for us. This is the same attitude Contro has. He comes in the room and immediately gives my wife a hug and shakes my hand. Throughout the appt, he always took time to explain what he was doing.
We left the first visit extremely happy of our choice to switch OB care to MD Contro.
