Such a horrible person & doctor! He is rude, condescending & arrogant! I was looking for a primary care doctor… I’m an easy laid back person with minimal health issues & I was outraged by how he rushed though everything, didn’t care what I wanted to say or address & hearing how he spoke to his own staff left me knowing 100% that he is a disgusting excuse for a human being!
You become a doctor to help people not to make yourself rich & be a complete ass!

This is one of my favorite doctor’s. He works hard, is super smart and is ever present at Good Samaritan hospital. When other reviews say that he treats you like family, this is for real. Also, his staff is very friendly and professional.

Dr. Kan has been my doctor for 18 years, and seriously, I think he’s great. Yes, I’d like it if my wait time were shorter, but twice I tried switching to different doctors (several yrs ago), and it was just as bad at the other offices — AND after that same long wait, I did not feel the confidence with them that I do with Dr. Kan.
Dr. Kan has helped my entire family through the endless early childhood maladies, my husband’s sports injuries and diabetes, my foot problems and carpal tunnel, my mom’s Alzheimer’s, and everything in-​between.
People I’ve seen, especially kids, always seem to relax and feel happier about being at the dr’s office when they see his cute little (very well-​behaved) doggie plop down nearby. She’s a good girl.
At one time, he had a PA I was not crazy about (seemed too rushed and didn’t seem to listen well), but she hasn’t been there for quite a while. Other than that I’ve been very happy with the other PA and assistants. The office staff is sometimes slow at responding to messages, but I know they are swamped — and they are always understanding if I call back before they’ve had a chance to call me.

Love Kan, always get in pretty quickly and when I had an ear infection right before Christmas, they saw me 20 after I called. «How quickly can you get here?» was what they said. A good Doc and good PAs when an appointment with Mike is farther out than you need.

I am a long time travel ICU nurse who has had to find a decent doctor (at least once per year!) in each region that I have worked over the years.
I recently (October 2009), made the bay area my permanent residence. I met Dr. Kan, as he was the «on-​call» the night I had to make an unfortunate visit to the hospital (my first time as an in-​patient!). I enjoyed him very much and he invited me to become his patient in the out-​patient setting. I was excited to find such a nice man to be my primary care physician… until I actually had to visit his office!
Here’s the whipping: totally unorganized front AND back office. Still a nice man, but good Lord I DO NOT have an 1 ½ hours to wait (with a toddler in-​tow) while he peruses the charts on each door and randomly decides who to see, paying no mind to who has the next appt. He laughs way to loud at his own jokes. He spent less than 5 minutes with me, but to his credit that was most likely because it was a very straight forward type of visit and my daughter was going a little nuts.
On the up side, his puppy dog is actually fine — I don’t have an issue with that. I think it’s nice. Future visits will require a pre-​arranged babysitter and perhaps the day off — - — which I should not have to do! Therefore, based on my experience and based on the other reviews of him on Unilocal*,I am going to keep looking for a great doc in the Los Gatos area.

I love this Dr. He’s very knowledgeable and well educated. He always knows what he’s talking about and i trust him 100%. I’ve been going to him for a few years now and would not goto anyone else. Great bed side manor. And yes, there is a dog, so what?! Dog’s are the cleanest animals, even more clean then humans believe it or not. So it does not bother me at all. The dog is not in the examination room with you, unless you want it to be. Anyway, I felt i had a to write something as, some reviews were just not genuine. in addition, you should, know that Dr. Kahn is very well respected in the Medical Community and has won numerous national awards.
I plan on continuing to be his patient for a long time.

I have also found Dr. Kan very good. I have been seeing him for 4 years now. I really blame the front office people for the disorganization (yes it is Dr. Kan’s responsibility but I have never known very many Doctors that are good managers) and being a process freak, it frustrates me. I usually have to show my insurance card when it should be on file. My file should already be pulled at the end of the day and have it ready when I arrive. Yes, I think the woman who is a the window needs to be fired.
Wait times have not been bad for me, maybe 20 minutes or so but I never expect to be in and out at any doctors office on time. I go to see Dr. Kan. He is alway informative, answers any questions that I have, and takes his time and I never feel rushed. I ask for an EKG every time I am there and does it even though he says not required every year…
Overall, he is a good general practice Dr.

I write this with mixed feelings/​viewpoints. As an office, I would have to agree with everyone else, it’s TOTALLY disorganized. I was a transfer from a Dr. who retired many years ago, and like another who posted, I expected a little bit of ‘chaos’ given the # of patients I ‘imagined’ got transferred. I *think* they eventually found my folder from the previous Dr. and I’ve definitely been seeing Dr. Kan for 3+ years. I’ve had ‘average’ wait times (not that I’m happy about it, but usually, it’s fallen within a range that I seem to have gotten used to from other Doctors (Dentists by contrast, seem to ALWAYS be on time and work like clock-​work)). I’m not so excited about the little dog going around, but that’s just a personal preference, and I would have to also echo a previous poster, about the ‘hygiene’ of such an allowance.
Now, that being said, I think Dr. Kan is pretty good. Seems to be really well read, and has never made me feel ‘rushed’ when I ask him questions and enter into a discussion (unlike my previous Dr. who seemed to have ‘limited time’, and if I started asking ‘too many questions’, he would suggest I set up another appointment, in fairness to his other patients who have been waiting… which means to me, that the other Dr. over-​scheduled himself (or his staff has… either way, it’s HIS problem to solve)). Dr. Kan seems to be really smart, on my first visit, I did get seen by his PA (Physician’s Assistant), which for me, was a TOTALLY new thing). But since the first visit, I’ve only been seen by Dr. Kan.
I saw him just today, and again, he reinforced my belief, that I think he knows what he’s talking about, and wasn’t shy to admit that I might want to see a orthopaedic specialist, but he would rather be safe than sorry to diagnose something merely on ‘sight’.
One might say, he’s doing a CYA. I would rather believe, better safe than sorry.
That being said… a few months ago, I had to get my file to an agency for proof of my ‘good health’, and the agency gave me feedback that they had a really hard time getting the records from my Dr. s office.
When I entered the office today, they only had my ‘temporary’ file from a year ago, which means, they didn’t have all the other information, I had accumulated since I was in Dr. Kan’s direct care. They promised they would look for my file in ‘earnest’ during their lunch time.
I plan to follow-​up tomorrow, to see how their ‘search’ went. I’m NOT particularly happy, that I had to refill those forms, as if I was a new patient, ESPECIALLY since I was relying on the Dr’s office, to take and keep track of my health record and anything else I had had tested, done, etc.
So, that is why my rating is mixed. I’d give a thumbs-​up for Dr. Kan, but a thumbs down, for the organization of the office.
And for those who mentioned about ‘rude receptionist’, I had that experience in the early years… not too nasty. But definitely, the one I dealt with today, was a different one. I think it’s a hit or miss, because they have a # of people working back there. In very ‘cramped’ quarters I might add.

I have been here 3 times. Don’t remember the exact wait on the first time, just remember it was longer than I was used to at Kaiser & the office looked pretty outdated. The wait on the 2^nd time was 1.5 hours for a 5 minute consult. On the 3^rd time, it turned out that they didn’t write down my appointment & I had to reschedule.

I will have to strongly agree with what has beeen said. This place is terrible. There is a dog in the office which doesn’t seem very sanitary (and I’m very much a dog person but don’t think they belong in a dr’s office). Waiting times are very long. The patient rooms are very messy — so messy and disorganized looking that i thought it was a closet the first time i went there. Then i was taken to the same room for the follow up visit and realized it was actually the exam room! We’re talkin random papers, old stuffed animals, dirty toys, and a computer desk that was all dusty and old. It was so strange! I have never seen the doctor the few times i have been — the last time they did a TB test on me and I was not impressed how they handled the diagnosis and recommendation. The PA or nurse or whoever she was had terrible bedside manner and recommended antibiotics casually for 6 months and no follow up either. (I don’t have the active form of TB, so the standard recommendation it seems is to do the long dose of antibiotics just for prevention of future onset. However many people born in Asia test positive for TB because they get immunized as child and do not have the disease) I have a feeling that she did not know much about TB either b/​c i swear i heard the Dr. on the other side of the door chastizing her for not knowing more about it. The staff was not very nice in general and did not seem like they really liked working there. Like i said, this place is really unprofessional to me and has a very strange vibe, i would definitely not recommend it!

take all the bad reviews, double them and i don’t need to write anything. i met him and his traveling pooch once and once was enough. if you’re intelligent, have a working mind and want more than a lecture on his topic of choice then go someplace else.

I have to agree with some of the evaluations with regard to the waiting room, waiting times, and bedside manner, BUT this guy is an amazing doctor. Seriously, if my parents were sick, this is the doctor I would send them to. Also, I have gotten to know him fairly well and his lack of bedside manner shouldn’t be taken personally.

I have no reason to recommend this doctor to anyone. I have never even encountered Dr. Kan although he is my primary care physician (that will likely change). The waiting room is always a zoo and I wind up seeing a physicians assistant.
Whenever I go into that office, I feel like I am going to catch something because it is so small and poorly ventilated. It was very warm in the room, so I tried to turn on the little fan by the receptionist window. But, they are so out of it there that they don’t even realize that the fan is not working. And yes, like the previous reviewer said, there is a dog hanging around, which is weird. Its not a nice dog that might be fun to hang out with in the waiting room, but an obnoxious yippy dog. This one doesn’t do anything for my well being.
I am also very dissatisfied with the receptionist working there. She gave me misinformation on needing a referral for a pediatrician. It was a great way to waste my time and get a co-​payment out of me, but all they gave me was a sheet of paper with a list of potential doctors. No real information. That was it. A sheet of paper! It is a real shame when decisions are made by someone you can’t trust. I won’t be going back there for anything. I can’t afford to waste my time and you shouldn’t either.
If anyone knows of a good primary care physician in the Santa Clara IPA, please let me know. I am looking.

So i had a really bad experience. The place is supposed to have some sort of specialty in ankles and feet, but im not sure how true that is.
I have had some ankle pain for a while, and after spraining my ankles multiple times i can normally diagnose myself, but this pain wont go away and all i wanted was an X-​Ray and/​or MRI.
When i get taken back to my room, i notice that the Drs desk is a complete mess w papers and files everywhere, and the office is just somewhat of a dump.
When the doc came inn, his dog followed which i thought was really kind of weird. Then for the exam he didnt really listen to me at all and just got me his «Ankle Treatment Program» which was an ankle brace with exercises inside the box. Thats a program?
He then sent me across the parking lot to an X-​Ray place with an hour and a half wait.
I didnt even bother, I was so frustrated at this point I just wanted to start over with a real doctor.
Worst medical experience I have ever been in.
