Couldn’t tell you if the doctor is any good. But his office staff is anal retentive about how long it takes to do paperwork.
Make sure you don’t encounter any traffic on the way to your appointment because they’ll tell you it takes exactly 20 minutes to fill out their forms and even though you’ll probably end up sitting around the waiting room if they’re like every other doctor’s office on the planet, they’ll say they need to reschedule and bring the next person in instead. Doesn’t really seem to matter how trivial the reason for your visit might be. The important thing is that everybody knows you can’t fill out medical forms in less than 20 minutes for goodness sake!

Dr. Karin is a very kind, patient, and caring doctor. He did my tonsil and adnoid surgery and I’ve also seen him twice for ear cleanings due to my very small ear canals. I have experienced long waiting times in the lobby, however the wait is worth it. I highly recommend Dr. Karin.

I was referred to Dr. Karin by another surgeon to remove a lipoma on the left side of my neck. I was concerned about the procedure as well as what scarring I may have as a result of surgery. Once I met Dr. Karin my fears subsided. He answered all of my questions. I was in and out of surgery in less than 40 minutes. I just went for my one week follow up visit and other than the slight brusing from the surgery you can expect, the incision is seamless. I can hardly tell i had surgery. He exceeded my expectations with both the surgery experience as well as the results. I’m so grateful to have been referred to him. Great surgeon! His staff is friendly as well. I never had to wait for his services as some of the reviews expressed. Even if I did, he is well worth the wait! If you need to see an ENT, look no further than Dr. Karin.

This Unilocal page should address the work of Dr. Rom Karin and not his staff. So those of you who rate his staff poorly, should do so on a different Unilocal page.
I have had chronic ear issues since i was 4 years old and i am now 28. I almost went deaf at 4 years old and i’ve had ear tubes 5 times, with the 5^th ear tube implant being a permanent one (per my request). My parents have always taken me to the best doctors around (being that i was born in the Bay Area at Stanford Hospital) so we have seen 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th opinions. We settled with Dr. Karin after my initial doctor in Palo Alto retired. We felt most comfortable with Dr. Karin for a few reasons: 1) His credentials and experience. 2) His ear equipment was and still is the most advanced we had witnessed in any ENT Dr office environment. 3) He never pressured us into surgeries, whereas other doctors tried to. 4) He has a very calming demeanor and remembers personal details from years prior.
What Dr Karin has performed on me: 1) ear tube implantation. 2) adenoid removal. 3) tonsil removal and 4) patching of a perforated ear. Each surgery was performed with excellence and i never had any issues recovering. Follow up was wonderful and he would personally call to check in on me while i was resting.
I would highly recommend Dr Karin to anyone reading this who has ear issues or who has a child needing tube implantation. He has been my ENT since i was very young and he is absolutely the best.

Dr Karin’s office is a joke! They have no consideration for anyone’s time but their own. A week ago, on June 4^th, I had a 2:30 appointment. At 3:30, I gave up and left. At 5, I received a phone call from the office asking what happened, so I explained that my time is valuable, just like the doctor’s, and that if the doctor was running 1+ hours behind a courtesy call would have been nice or at a minimum let me know this when I checked in. After all of the apologies, they talked me into rescheduling for today, June 11^th, at 2 PM. I told them that I could not be delayed due to another doctor’s appointment at 3:30 in a different office. I arrive at 1:55 and check in. At 2:10 I explain to the people at the front desk that I waited over an hour the previous week and that I have another doctor’s appointment at 3:30. Their reply? After talking to the doctor’s secretary, your appointment is at 2:30 and the doctor is running a little late so I guess you should reschedule your 3:30! They can’t even agree on the appointment time within their own office! Unbelievable! THESE PEOPLE ARE CLUELESS! Don’t waste your time with the inconsiderate morons at this practice!

Im the first to admit im a doctors worst nightmare. i will ask endless questions being that i am the leader of the hypochondriac nation.
So i went to see Dr. Karin… yes i had to wait a while but that doesnt bother me… to me its a sign of a doctor whos taking time with his patients so i appreciate that.
Once i saw the doctor he was very nice, courteous, and thoughtful. He took his time to check out what i was worried about and took time to explain to me what exactly was going on.
All in all, yes i had to wait but it was worth it because Dr. Karin was top quality.

When I first saw this Unilocal page the first things I thought were 1. Why does this Dr have so few reviews? And 2. Wow…2/3 are bad. I def normally would have kept away from this guy — but I needed an apt STAT for a throat problem I was having, and I needed a place close to my work, and a place that took my insurance. Up popped Dr. Rom and I thought «What the hay» I’m SO glad I went– and here is why.
1. I called on Friday afternoon and they were able to get me in Monday morning. AWESOME!
2. I went in to find an almost completely empty waiting room — 2 people! Freakin sweet
3. The two ladies behind the counter were not only friendly & helpful, but funny as well.
4. I filled out my new patient paperwork and was called back within 5 minutes!
5. The lady/​nurse who took me back to weigh me and get my vitals was ALSO friendly and funny!
6. Dr. Rom didn’t keep me waiting AT ALL. When the nurse left the room I grabbed my phone thinking «Okay now for the real wait» NO! I didn’t even have time to finish reading the text I opened and he knocked on the door. I made to sure to tell him, «Wow. That is the fastest a DR has EVER come to the room!»
7. I explained to Dr. Rom what was going on and he let me explain clearly while he asked some question (never once cutting me off). He showed me his high tech/​fancy screen with the virtual tour of the throat and explained what he thought was bothering me, etc. He was extremely informative and answered most questions before I even had to ask them (I hate when Drs just say a closed ended statement with a diagnosis and expect that to be the extent of your communication). Once he made his diagnosis/​assessment — he let me ask questions WITHOUT rushing me or talking over me. That is so rare! So often you feel like a Dr is just trying to rush you along so they can get to the next person and I didn’t feel like that at all. Maybe I lucked out and he had a completely free morning? No idea– but either way it was a relaxed, comfortable, friendly environment and visit ALL around.
All in all — I was back at work within 45 minutes of leaving! Given the fact that I work about 5 minutes down the street — it was by far, the fastest appointment EVER. If I ever have a ear, nose, or throat issue for an otolaryngologist — I will come back here to Dr. Rom.

My 17 year old daughter was referred to Dr. Rom Karin for chronic tonsillitis. After reviewing the remarks in other Unilocal reviews I was unsure if I should schedule an appointment with him. I am glad that I did. I found the office staff polite, courteous and efficient. I was advised that I would be scheduled into the office 30 min. prior to seeing the Doctor to complete new patient paperwork. I set my appointment for the first available after their lunch period. This was perfect timing as the office was uncrowned. My check-​in was quick and friendly. While I completed the forms a staff member walked into the waiting room to give me back my insurance card. We had a very short wait in the Doctor’s office before Dr. Karin greeted us. He is a very professional looking man with a kind attitude. I liked the fact that he spoke to my daughter directly during the exam and while he discussed different options to correct her chronic problem. He had very up to date computer programs that he used to illustrate his points on a flat screen. He had a pleasant attitude, seemed interested in my daughter’s questions and made us both feel comfortable. I notice that when we left the office the reception area had filled. I was happy I scheduled my appointment as I did. We plan to follow the Doctor’s recommendation and have surgery in mid-​August.

This review is mostly for the staff, not for the doctor. My son was Dr. Karin’s patient. My son’s pediatrician recommended Dr Karin and I called to make an appointment. They asked us to arrive 25min before the appointment to fill out forms. We arrived 25 min before the appointment as asked, took 5 mins to fill out the form and waited. and waited. After waiting 1 hour 15 mins with my 5 year old, finally we were able to see the Dr. Little apology or some explanation for the delay would have been nice. No, not in this office. Second visit was better in terms of waiting. My son got hearing test done. Person who does testing didn’t talk a word during the whole testing, no explanation on what she’s doing and no word on what the result was after it’s done. After the testing, we met with Dr. Karin. He pretty much repeated what he told us in our first meeting. Later we found out that 10 min meeting cost us $ 300 for «consulting fee». He recommended tonsillectomy, and a nurse scheduled a surgery. She was nice and she explained that Dr will be on vacation and they have to schedule his surgery a month later and the surgery has to be done on 6 am because that’s easier for him to fest that way.
3 days before the surgery, someone from surgery center, not from Dr. Karin, left a voice message saying that we need to show up 1 hour before the surgery, 8:45 am. That can’t be right, surgery was scheduled for 6 am and we made all the arrangements for that. I called the center to correct the schedule but couldn’t get a hold of anybody (silliconvalley surgery). I then called Dr Karin’s office and the staff said, «Oh, we changed the schedule because there’s a patient younger than your son». I asked her, «shouldn’t someone call me to confirm that with me?». She said «Our nurse told you that surgery schedule can change anytime». First, no she didn’t, but even if she did, that doesn’t mean that you can change the schedule without asking me first. To give credit to Dr, my son’s surgery was successful, but I won’t go to this office again and I don’t recommend to anybody.

I can’t really say that I’ve experienced a better septoplasty & rhinoplasty (deviated septum and bone shaving of the nose), because I’ve never had one, but I can tell anyone who is also interested in how you are treated during office visits, calling because you’re scared and bleeding or want to speak to your doctor for aftercare questions… DON’T GO TO THE «LOS GATOS EYE, NOSE & EAR CLINIC». I was left waiting in the waiting room for an hour after an app’t. because no one thought to contact me to tell me an emergency arrived and the dr. couldn’t see me on time. You end up leaving msgs. w/ass’ts. who can’t answer anything, and you never hear from the dr. Now they are trying to collect more money on services already paid saying that they never quoted the price that they quoted. It’s just awful service. RUN! TO SOMEPLACE ELSE!
