Bugs and Butterflies Photography was started in late 2005 and has been at the same studio location in downtown Los Gatos since 2006.

Business Owner

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am the owner and photographer at Bugs and Butterflies Photography. Photography has been a passion of mine for over 20 years. Through my camera, I capture my subjects’ personalities and the love people have for one another. My clients are often moved to tears after viewing their images for the first time.

I am an award winning photographer who evolves my artistic talent through participation in professional photographer associations, educational classes, seminars and conferences. I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America and the Professional Photographers of Santa Clara Valley.

My studio is open by appointment and is located in beautiful downtown Los Gatos. On location portrait sessions are available as well.

I love what I do and my passion for it is reflected in my work and my client’s finished products. I look forward to working with you to create images your family will cherish for a lifetime.

Couldn’t recommend this company more! We used Christie to take our family photos a few years back and they are by far the best photos of our family. She really knew how to get the smiles out of all of us and capture the joy in our family.
Side note, that review from «Vera L» is obviously a fake review. Any issues we had with our photos was completely handled free of charge and if we were at all upset with the quality of the photo’s we knew Christie would come do another shoot for us. Obviously the shots we got were more than what we expected so it wasn’t a problem!

If there was a rating for ‘no star’, I would have chosen that. Michelle is very deceiving. Beware! We spent over $ 3000 with her (very pricy) and didn’t get the quality as promised. The package we end up getting were different than the photo we picked. Some were supposed to be color as opposed to black and white. She wouldn’t refund the $ on what she did wrong. The photos have either my daughter’s head or body cut-​off unproportionally — she called it design but it was more like sloppy jobs that someone did while watching TV at the same time. Quality of the photo was prob. what you can get from places like Costco and we paid $ 100 each!
She has awful attitude and customer service mentality. Yelled and screamed (the I don’t care attitude since she got paid already). All she wants is you $ that she can collect upfront. You can for sure find much better photographers who are more passionate about their jobs and you as a customer elsewhere. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I’ve been meaning to write about Bugs and Butterflies because Michelle did an EXCELLENT job with my son’s 1 year old photo shoot in June 2013. The photos are utterly priceless and worth every penny. I cry every time I watch the slide show she so beautifully set to music. My son is only 1 once so instead of a big birthday party he would not remember and freak out at (stranger anxiety), I spent the money on photos and buying the memory box– AMAZING!!! Michelle was patient and captured my baby’s personality in the photos. I’m very happy :) You get what you pay for and these are NOT department store photos but something you can show with pride and pass on to your little one when they are grown!

Michelle captured the spirit of our little girl perfectly. The photos that she took of our 6-​day old baby girl were priceless. She even managed to get a handful of her smiling with a big wide grin (very rare for newborns). From the session, we ordered our baby announcements and prints for ourselves and parents. My friends and family have commented that the baby announcements were the cutest they had ever seen! We will be going back when our daughter big enough to sit up on her own and I can’t wait to see what she will capture next. I would highly recommend Bugs and Butterflies Photography!

Michelle did an amazing job capturing our son from newborn to 1 year. She’s very patient working with us and takes her time during our session. I immediately called her when we were expecting our daughter. Our daughter kept waking up during our photo session and Michelle will put her back to sleep. She’s a natural with kids. Her work is the best I’ve seen in the Bay Area. She has all sorts of props and outfit for the kids to use. She’s very detailed in discussing what things we like to incorporate into the session. We did a travel motif with our son for all three sessions. She captured his personality so well. We did the butterfly book for our son ‘s newborn pictures and the box for our daughter so we can display her photos. She has so many options to choose from. She’s on the pricey side, but it’s worth every penny. The first year is the most important moment to capture so why not get the best baby photographer. I highly recommend Michelle.

Professional photography can be expensive… but I’ve always taken the attitude that «you get what you pay for». So when I was expecting my first child I knew I wanted the BEST! I knew that the precious moments are those that will pass you by and cannot be recaptured. I, therefore, had my pregnancy photos taken, then when my little one arrived I had her newborn shots taken, and finally I had her 6 month pictures taken. When all was said and done I had a photo book put together of the 3 sessions and Michelle FAR EXCEEDED my expectations! I love my book so much words can’t express that enough! The book was made of the finest quality materials as well as the photos I will be hanging in my home! I can’t express enough the joy a child brings to one’s life and the memories that Michelle creates and captures are priceless!!!
