Rose has been doing makeup and styling for 30 years. She has worked in film, television and print, and her many high profile clients include actors, athletes, politicians and corporate executives. One of her most exciting assignments was doing makeup for the then President of the United States, Bill Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore. Rose owns her own company, Rose Hill and Crew, and also runs her own school, the Academy of Cosmetic Arts. Rose Hill is not only a fantastic instructor, she knows just about everyone in the business! Her workshops are at her home but she has a Business and Salon Establishment License. She offers free marketing advice and has helped many people become successful Makeup Artists in magazines, movies and fashion shows.

The Academy Of Cosmetic Arts is THE place to learn the makeup trade. Rose Hill is an accomplished and famous Makeup artist. She’s worked on countless films and dozens of Movie Stars, Athletes, Rock Stars and Politicians. She has the pictures to prove it! I’ve learned many valuable skills from this woman. I’m proud to say I know her and have become her friend. If you have an opportunity to take her classes and are serious to learn the trade, RUN don’t waste time to enroll, you won’t regret it. I don’t.

I had the opportunity to do hair for Rose’s Cosmetic Arts Classes where I observed Rose teaching her class first hand. I was very impressed not only by her love and enthusiasm for teaching, but her kindness and encouragement towards each of her students. She guided them with clear instruction and taught them techniques to improve their skills with the intention that they could be better and do more than she ever has (which is A LOT). Her humility is a rare and beautiful characteristic in a teacher and at the same time is no pushover. She knows what she’s doing and is an authority in her craft.
Her students were having a great time as well. They were focused and serious about learning everything they could but having so much fun at the same time. I could see they admired and respected Rose and wanted to be challenged to grow towards mastering their art. With a classroom full of budding artists the energy was electric, lively and intense as these students were there to learn and Rose was there to teach them!

I have worked with Rose Hill and the Academy of Cosmetic Arts for over 15yrs. I first attended her school and since then, I have worked as a Professional Hair and Makeup Artist. I have worked on movie sets, photo shoots, fashion shows, commercials, T. V, horror films, magazines, weddings, along with Silicon Valley Executives and Politicians, including Senator John Kerry. I highly recommend Rose and the Academy of Cosmetic arts, if you are interested in the Makeup World. There are many avenues you can take and Rose can help direct you. I give the Academy and Rose, 5 stars!

I am so thrilled that Rose Hill did my hair and make up for my wedding. She made me look flawlessly glamorous and beautiful. Rose helped me figure out multiple looks for the wedding day and I took her advice as she has been in the business for over 25 years and I was fortunate to have her. She works on celebrities, politicians, executives etc. She is well respected and very professional.
Not only does she do excellent work, she also is a very caring and warm individual; someone people want to be around. Everyone who met her at my wedding wanted to talk to her more. She is a very interesting person and easy to talk to.

I’ve been working with Rose Hill for about twenty years on movies, music videos, and commercials. For about 15 years I have been an instructor at her school, the Academy of Cosmetic Arts. I teach make up effects, such as wounds and old age, plus body painting, airbrush, and more. I have also taught at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and worked as Director of Special Makeup Effects on many feature films.
I can safely say I have taught hundreds of students over the years. Many of them have gone on to professional careers of their own. The Academy course is diverse and exposes students to a variety of television, photography, and film looks. There are both lectures and demonstration, and during each class students create their own new makeup looks, gaining hands on experience. The Academy of Cosmetic Arts offers skills that give make up artists the edge in today’s marketplace.
I notice that there are several things posted here by what I supose are bridesmaids reviewing weddings they attended. This is a site for the SCHOOL «Academy of Cosmetic Arts», which is a school. In my opinion, the course is quite affordable for the amount of information and instruction offered. So, if you want to learn the Art of makeup, I highly recommend the Academy of Cosmetic Arts.

What a wonderful experience i had working with Rose at her school of cosmetic arts! She goes out of her way to teach you her little secrets of make-​up. She offers amazing internships that gives you experience in all fields. I assisted her my first year at her school with not only brides, but with TV stars and commercials! Who does that?!? Thank you Rose for taking time and effort to put your 100% into teaching others what you do best!

Totally agree with Anonymous P. Academy of Cosmetic Arts is nothing but a scam. So sorry that I wasted my time and money on this «school». Rose Hill is unbelievably rude, has mood swings, and can’t do makeup to save her life. Honestly I’ve seen better at local cosmetic counters. She walks around inappropriately dressed. I actually saw her in biker shorts with two holes in the buttock area. I am not kidding. You could see her bare behind! I know this place doesn’t guarantee employment, but she has the nerve to send job opportunity postings to your email. They are nothing but re posts from Craigslist. You can find that on your own. If you want to learn how to do makeup go to a legitimate vocational institution, such as MUD in Southern California. Walk, no run away from the Academy of Cosmetic Arts.

Definitely do no pay money to go to this school.(Not a school) The steep $ 1500 or more for tuition is astronamical for what this actually is. Also you do not get any sort of refund if at any point you are dissatisfied. This is in a room in her house. This is not an school or a prestigious facility or «Academy».She is the main and only person you deal with, so if you have concerns or questions or comments it’s her that you speak with, which I believe is A problem as she, in my opinon, takes everything so personally and not as a business owner professional. Yes she has done makeup on famous and well known people (I.e. News anchors, random business people and some random actors) She mainly does weddings. In my opinon she is very behind and not at all up to date with the newest trends in the makeup and fashion world. The minimal makeup instruction was a very lazy demonstration, with no real instruction on how and why things are done. On a different note the photographers she used were weird creepy guy who take pictures in her cluttered garage or taklcky living room.
Don’t be fooled as I was, definately do your research, look at schools in San Francisco or in LA not in someones bootleg homemade salon.
Just a reminder this is only my opinion and in no way is this an attack, just a warning to people who want to become real makeup artists, trained by prestegious instructors at actual school or professional location.

I am not a person who usually writes reviews, especially bad ones, but I had to share my experience.
I was looking for a makeup school and came across this place. I got an appointment and everything was fine until I arrived there. The academy is actually in Rose’s house, how odd is that? But I let that go… No offence to Rose and her work, honestly I don’t know how she works, she may be good, but reading the other reviews I agree about her having an attitude. She also seems too stuck up. In general if I was judging the school based on her, I would give it a 0, she does not look professional AT ALL… She said she requires only one pair of eyelashes because then you can just reuse it on different models, that is not professional and probably against the State Board rules.
The area where the photo shoots take place is I am guessing her living room, I still let that go until I noticed something which made me want to leave immediately, there was dancing pole in the middle of the living room, though looking at her that kind of made sense (do I need to say more?) I did see a few other unprofessional things but I think I have said enough. Anyway, again her work may be good but as from what I saw I don’t consider the place as a place to learn doing makeup professionally.

Rose is wonderful and very talented. I had my wedding last month and she did my and my mother’s hair and makeup. We were a hit!!!
Everyone commented on how great we both looked and we owe it to Rose and her talent.
Rose was sooooooooooooo much fun to work with everyone loved her; I was a bit nervous the morning of the wedding but as soon as I saw Rose and she started talking to me she put me at ease. She started to set her things up and she was talking to us I forgot about the stress it was more like a make up party with friends.
I will recommend Rose to all of my friends and family.

Rose Hill’s team arrived at the school ready room to create classic and dramatic looks for a recent San Jose Dance Boulevard student/​teacher exhibition early this month. I walked in cold, showed them my costume and they created an awesome look, airbrushed, powdered, eyelashes the works. It didn’t take long and the effect was so fabulous, I slept propped up on pillows to preserve the look for a party the next night, and, I still looked great and got lot of compliments. Thanks Rose and team for a great experience, and beautiful memories of a special moment in time. I’m getting braver with my own make-​up skills as result. Double bonus!

how rude of someone to say that about rose ! she is not like that at all ! she is a very beautiful funny EXCITING FUN energized SMART artistic porfessional makeup artist and teacher i have ever met in the world. I attended The Academy of Cosmetic Arts a couple of years ago. Rose Hill taught us a lot. She also had some excellent instructors who gave us lessons in up-do’s and dramatic styles. I got a chance to try out looks for television, photography, and more. During the term of the class we had a chance to go to a fashion show and do make-​up on professional models. I got to know a couple of the other students better and we really enjoyed the challenge of getting a variety of models ready in a short amount of time. Rose Hill did great applications using the airbrush and gave us confidence that yes, we could do it too. I highly recommend the Academy of Cosmetic Arts.”

She may be this big time makeup artist and supposedly voted best of Silicon Valley (her website doesn’t say when this vote occurred), but she SUCKED at doing the hair and makeup at my cousin’s wedding! She was rude, crude and made unprofessional comments and remarks that she should have kept to herself! From the beginning of her arrival, she was cranky and took it out on the wedding party.
When it was my turn to get my hair done, she asked me how I wanted my hair. I told her I wanted a half up-​do with curls. She asked me what kind of curls I wanted — small, medium, or large. I was thinking for a few seconds and she became irritated with me thinking it over and told one of her assistants and in the RUDEST way said out loud, «can you help this girl out because for some reason she doesn’t know the difference between small, medium, or large curls!!!»
She did a terrible job on my HAIR and MAKEUP. I ended up looking like a country singer from the 70s. BLAH!
it wasn’t only me that experienced her bitchiness and diva-​like attitude. the other bridesmaids got snide remarks and comments as well.
i would never recommend her to do a wedding ever again!!!
