Crescent Moon Karate is a Black Belt Karate School established by 4th Degree Black Belt Robert Torres. We are located at 5280 W. Pico Blvd in Los Angeles. We specialize in Karate including weapons and Self Defense. What makes us unique is that our style of Karate is unlike any other popular styles out there. We also pride ourselves in providing the highest level of instruction to our students. We are the best at what we do because our training and experience never stops growing. Master Robert Torres T.

Business Owner

Master Torres has a total of 19 years of Martial Arts experience. Combined with over 13 years of teaching experience, Master Torres is dedicated to the arts; motivating and challenging both children and adults to become better people and reach «Black Belt Excellence».

He studied the style of Beikoku Wa Do Ryu under the teachings of Hanshi Rick Herbster. Master Torres has always believed in giving back to the community and selfless service to both the community and his country. While attending College at Rowan University, Master Torres continued his training and teachings at the University. Master Torres began teaching his own students in 2006 and his Karate students are growing quickly. With help from his instructors and Masters he is running a successful Karate Club and martial arts training program in Southern California.

My grandson Charles attends Crescent Moon and it has been the best experience for him. Renshi, owner and instructor has an excellent rapport with the children of all ages. This is the place to go for all level instruction and positive life-​enhancing disciplines. We are Very fortunate to have found Crescent Moon Karate.

Renshi Torres is awesome! He is wonderful with children and adults. My son loved it from the minute he started his first trial class… he yelled out 5 minutes after the class started «mom, do I get a uniform now?»
He is now a yellow belt and still loving it!

If I could give CMK more than 5 stars I would. Renshi Torres teaches kids invaluable life skills such as self control, perseverance, respect for self and others, independence, confidence, and focus. My son has been enrolled for a little over a year and his growth and achievements have been remarkable. Renshi runs an action packed, enthusiastic class and the kids leave sweaty and happy every time! My son absolutely adores Renshi, as do I. He is an incredible role model who is passionate about sharing his art with everyone who steps foot in the dojo. The best way to summarize, when I picked my son up from one of the special event nights he said, «I wish I had a time machine so I could go back to the beginning of this night at the dojo!» Highly recommend this program for kids of all ages and abilities.

The Best Dojo! Best Staff!!!
I started as a student at Crescent Moon Karate in 2008. Since that time I have never stop Training. Renshi Torres help guide me to become the 1st Black Belt for our dojo. Renshi Torres is very passionate about each student regardless of age fulfilling their dream. When you visit our dojo you will feel a family atmosphere. You will finish your class feeling terrific! Plus you will gain some techniques that will benefit you for the rest of your life!

Okay, you’re all finished shopping for a place for you or your child to learn Karate. Our son has been enrolled for two years at Crescent Moon Karate Academy. Renshi Torres & his team have been fantastic. You can stop by anytime, watch any class and it will become obvious to you that they really care about the children and that goes well beyond teaching self-​defense. They are EXCEEDINGLY patient and knowledgeable. Our son’s growth in terms of «focus, discipline & respect» has been phenomenal as he’s progressed through his belts. Renshi also regularly arranges for some fun, extracurricular activities like movie-​nights and holiday parties.
My wife enrolled for MMA and, later, Karate for herself and enjoys it as much as our son does. The prices are incredibly reasonable for such a great value.

There aren’t enough words to express how much I love and respect this dojo! My son has been coming here for the past 8 months and he is truly blossoming under Renshi’s guidance. Renshi Torres and his highly trained staff really know how to keep the kids engaged and make learning fun. Every class I observe, the kids are eager to learn and all smiles. They have great classes for adults as well including MMA fitness and yoga! I’d give this place ten stars if I could :)

This place is great. Master Torres is awesome. He’s very enthusiastic and looks like he enjoys doing his job. My son earned 4 belts when he attended crescent moon karate, but unfortunately we moved. Master Torres not only taught karate but he also teaches responsibility, self discipline, and focus. Sensai Gray is awesome too. I would recommend this dojo to kids and adults.

I didn’t think I could write a more glowing review, but we just had my son’s birthday party here. One word: AWESOME! Renshi Torres made my son the star of the party and thoroughly engaged the other children, too. They played games and learned karate and had an overall blast. The flow of the party was perfect! After a good workout with games and karate fun, the kids were hungry and ate, then played some more… and Renshi Torres even provided a brief demo after the singing of Happy Birthday, so I could cut the cake without all the kids clamoring for a piece. Truly the best birthday party I’ve ever hosted for my son. Reasonably priced for all the action and attention and help.
I’m truly a loyal fan of this business. It practices the best type of business — integrity and value.

My sister goes here & Sansei Torres is great. He is so positive & such a great teacher. He has a lot of enthusiasm & patience for the kids learning Karate. The kids take a paper home & we have to evaluate how they act at home, behavior & attitude wise. He’s a great person to have in the community.

I have been attending the MMA Fitness classes at Crescent Moon Karate every week for almost 6 months, and I love it. I always get a good workout, and every class involves different sets of exercises so it never gets boring.
Renshi Robert Torres is a wonderful instructor. He is encouraging and positive; he pushes me hard but he is never harsh or overly aggressive. The MMA Fitness class is small, so I get personal attention from Renshi, and I feel like he really cares that I push myself and use correct form.
The Crescent Moon facility is always clean, bright, and has good equipment. It’s not a fancy top-​of-​the-​line gym, but I am totally satisfied with the gear and the environment. And Renshi is great about using technology to keep attendance, communicate with students, and provide extra services for us outside of class.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive, high-​quality, FUN workout, I highly recommend the MMA Fitness class at Crescent Moon.

Probably the BEST place to bring your children for self defense classes! My 6 and 4 year old boys look forward coming here every other day! Master Torres and Sensei are truly wonderful and skilled teachers! I and drop my son off for his lesson and come back knowing that he is in safe hands. They give their all each and every time which is more than anyone could ask for :) Plus they do fun extra activities like Dojo Movie night! I looove when they have this because you can leave the kids there while they play games, watch movies, and hang out with other kids in the classes! They even spend the night which gives us parents a wonderful little break haha :)
I think these days all kids should go to some sort of karate or martial arts class. I wanted to have my 6 year old and 4 year old do something that incorporated respect discipline and focus plus allows them to know how to defend themselves againsts strangers etc… They teach these core values in a clean and comfortable environment.
Oh and you dont have to drop your children off if you dont want too. Most parents of the smaller kids 4 – 6 years old usually stick around to watch, but my son just does better when im not there to distract him lol
overall we have been going here for about a year and will most likely continue as long as possible! I love this place and they really make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door :)
Seriously, dont think about it just go and talk with them anytime if you want to know more. I procrastinated for like a few months because i just wasnt sure about them but I took a dive and wow it has been a wonderful journey for my kids!

The instruction here is one of the best in today’s market place. Master Torres comes from a significant Martial Arts background and is a true example to the art and the study. I would recommend his Dojo over any other location in the area. What sets him apart is he is in this for the love and the passion of helping others. Call him and ask about his private lessons, they are one of the most awesome experiences in development of personal discipline and self realization.
