Zap Electrolysis & Skin Care

Having suffered from one too many botched waxing jobs (even those done by aestheticians), not being an ideal candidate for laser, and wanting to find a permanent removal solution, I decided to invest in electrolysis.
Two months into my weekly sessions, my only regret is that I did not pursue electrolysis much earlier in life, specifically with Tina. She is a gem — passionate about her profession, solid in her technique, up-​to-​date on the latest technology, and reasonably priced.
The procedure requires time, patience, and the purchase of good numbing cream, but is permanent and absolutely worth the investment. I have very happily ended my search for waxers and threaders in the area, and love the idea of never having to do that search again when I move to a new city. I am also greatly looking forward to paring down my morning routine, especially when I travel.

I’ve tried many and these are the best. Skilled, gentle, pristine in their cleanliness, and very, very fast, so a lot done for your money. Highly recommended.

Every morning I look in the mirror and I can’t believe how hairless my face has become. TMI? That’s ok because that’s what you want to hear if you’re a lady (or dude) and need a great place that is going to get the job well done.
Tina, the owner, is a true professional, at its finest. She’s down-​to-​earth, personable, gentle and here’s my favorite part — extremely efficient and skilled! I’ve been coming in for a while and she is so comfortable to be around.
In the long run, when you are hairless, and have saved so much more money than you would have by doing other services like wax your hairs off for life you’ll feel so good about spending your money here. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made.
After a recent move to another state, I can’t tell you how saddened I’ve become not to be able to come to Zap! as often as I’d like but I am still happily making appointments with them when I know I’ll be back in town.

Menopause, I discovered, can be pretty hairy. I’m blonde and fair skinned and had never had a problem with facial hair before. I started plucking the pesky hairs which over the years multiplied and morphed into a forest of bristly stubs. Not attractive or good for ones self confidence.
I did my research and discovered that laser hair removal, although less painful, is not suited to fair skinned people. The only permanent solution is electrolysis. I kept putting off the inevitable, but eventually I’d had enough and through the recommendation of a trusted esthetician friend I found Tina at Zap Electrolysis.
Why on earth did I wait so long?! Tina is amazing. From the get-​go she was very upfront and told me that the entire process would probably take 6 – 8 months and she was right. Here I am 7 months later with chin and upper lip just about hair free.
After the first 4 months, the weekly, 20 minute visits dwindled to bi weekly 15 minute appointments and now I’m down to once monthly on a needs only basis.
It was a little painful at first, but as the treatment progressed it got easier as I developed a tolerance. After each session Tina applies a wonderful cooling and healing treatment. Any facial redness I experienced after each session lasted about 30 minutes, but after that I was pretty much back to normal. I followed Tina’s aftercare instructions and never had any problems.
The salon is clean and welcoming and Tina and her staff are professional and caring.
There are 2 parking spaces behind the salon & there’s plenty of metered street parking as well.
I’m so happy I found Tina. Life during & after menopause has its challenges, facial hair doesn’t have to be one of them. Don’t wait. Deal with it, go see Tina. You’ll be really happy you took the plunge.

Could not believe how rude the new owners are. The old owner was my electrologist. Every now and again she would mention to call her if i had just one or two hairs removed… not a big deal stop by and she would take care of it. So several years later I asked for a consult with new people to try remove one hair. I spoke with Geneen who didnt care when I mentioned i saw Lucinda the old owner. She told me the machines are newer than the one Lucinda used. And suddenly the owner calls accusing me of wanting free electrolysis. Telling me further that they use the same machine that Lucinda used from 2006. Although they also have incorporated a newer one. Thought I would try them out but due to their own stupidity I found somewhere else to go to. Thanks for steering me in the right direction. By the way… your not just trying out the machine… your also seeing how the new owner performs with whatever machine they have. Owner was flat out rude and disrespectful.

Amazing experience and amazing staff! Was extremely gentle and gave me amazing instructions on after care! Even sent me a message the following day to check up on me and see how the skin heels! Highly recommend this place! Was a bit further from where I live but well worth the drive! Overall very happy client!

Before I wrote my review for Zap (and specifically Tina), I wanted to be absolutely sure the miracle that is electrolysis actually and completely works (it does). I have exhaustively researched this subject, and I have spent the last 4 years being an electrolysis guinea pig, so you can definitely trust me on this. Here’s the bottom line at the top: Electrolysis may take longer than lasering, but it is the far superior hair removal method (depending on what you want). Allow me to explain.
Without doing much research at all, I began my journey as most electrolysis fans do these days — with laser hair removal. It made hardly any difference after several sessions (and I’m an ideal laser candidate — fairly light skin and practically black hair). I also went to a reputable spot I’d had good results with for other procedures, so I was baffled. Then I learned that laser hair removal is only approved by the FDA for permanent hair REDUCTION. Meanwhile, electrolysis is the only FDA-​approved method of permanent hair REMOVAL on the market. I’ve also read that sometimes lasers can even stimulate hair growth in certain areas where hair growth is finer. Yikes.
Still, I don’t mean to completely knock lasering because it’s definitely possible to get good results from it — it’s just not technically permanent, it doesn’t work for everyone (it targets pigment, not hair follicles), and it isn’t good for certain areas, like the face (I’ve read the legs/​bikini area are the best laser candidates, since the hair there is quite coarse and therefore more responsive to the laser). But if you’re a blonde or a redhead or darker skinned, or your unwanted hair is the peach fuzz variety (like mine was) and not outright coarse, electrolysis is your best bet. If you’re very consistent with your treatments (going in at the first signs of regrowth), electrolysis takes about a year or two on average. I was only semi-​consistent with my treatments, which is why mine took a bit longer (I’d say about 3 years). Also, it took me a few tries to find Tina. Simply put, Tina is awesome. She’s fun to talk to and really knows how to zap those hairs away. I first began going in to see her about once every 2 weeks. The general rule is the more you get zapped, the less hair comes, and the less you go in. After about a year, my treatments eventually began to dwindle down to once a month, then once every few months, then to a complete halt (the hair just wasn’t growing anymore). I recently began electrolysis on an entirely new area with Tina after my first area was finished and I’m loving the results. I estimate it’ll only be a few months before my unwanted hair is gone for good.
There are only two minor cons to electrolysis, as a method:
–Your skin will look red/​swollen for a good hour or so after treatment (but rest assured — it’s basically gone after that time period), and it’s recommended that you don’t wear makeup/​apply any kind of non-​soothing product, like deodorant or scented lotion, to the area for about 24 hours after.
–If you’re in a bind and need your hair removed between treatments, you cannot wax, only shave (this rule applies to laser as well). The reason for this is that the sting you feel via waxing is actually a rush of blood to your hair follicle, which feeds it and actually makes your hair grow MORE, which prolongs treatment. Shaving does not affect the follicles whatsoever (it merely cuts the hair off the surface of your skin, like a lawnmower cuts grass), so you can shave. I hate shaving (the spiky feeling of the new hair growth as well as the fact my skin is so sensitive to it — I’m the unofficial Queen of Razor Burn and accidental razor nicks) so this was annoying for me personally. I imagine there are many lucky women out there who are just fine with shaving.
Anyway, I highly, highly recommend Zap if you have unwanted hair you’d like to permanently get rid of. I’m so happy to have found it. It’s truly a game changer.

I’ve been a follower of Tina Reynolds for years! Now that doesn’t mean I’m not getting the results I want; it means I’m lazy & inconsistent! Back to Tina, she is great! I found her way back in 2006 (maybe earlier) and was grateful! Not easy to find a decent practitioner in a big city! She’s down to earth, professional, knows her stuff & has the best needle placement out of the many I’ve tried here in LA. Even though it’s been a long time, we caught up like old times. My New Year’s Rez will be more consistency with Tina & get the job done! Even the other practitioners working at Zap are quite skilled! You’ll be hard pressed to find better than Zap Electrolysis.

Ana was great and efficient

I have been getting electrolysis for years from Tina. She does excellent work. She is also the rare electrologist that doesn’t have restrictions with male customers. I was completely nervous when I first called for what I wanted zapped, and she was patient and professional, putting me completely at ease. Whenever the subject of manscaping comes up with friends, I always say how happy I am with her work and that it’s made a real difference in my life. (Alas, the thought of pain scares them off.) Her schedule can fill up, so don’t put off calling when you want an appointment. And get prescription numbing cream!

I have been going to Tina for electrology since mid-​2006, where I saw her once a week, sometimes twice. These days I see Tina less; every other week or once a month.
She originally worked on my face and neck, but quickly I moved her to other areas. Underarms were a personal favorite.
In almost 8 years of seeing Tina multiple times per month, and seeing other electrologists on occasion when Tina was out, talking to her on every topic under the sun, and then some, I got to know her quite well. I got to know her work ethic as well.
She is very much like me, a Type-​A personality that does not take no for an answer or leave any problem unsolved. I was case in point, a great test case. Let me explain.
I had laser treatment first and then went to see her. Laser did not get rid of the lighter brown or white hairs. Sadly, the hair from the laser started growing back thinner but more resilient. It would have been cheaper, faster and less painful to go to an electrologist right from the get-​go, but I did not.
I was one of the few early cases, where normal methods did not work. That is nothing new for me on any front. Regular anything for me does not work. Added to the laser issue is that my hair often grows at an angle and is ingrown quite a bit. I also have wavy hair, which is definitely not straight.
Tina met the challenge by creating a new method. She wrote a paper on methods that she developed as I recall. She started using the ThermoC, quite painful. I still get humbled, but I get reminded of the Kwai Chang Caine of the old Kung Fu series in his efforts to walk on rice paper. I am so making progress.
I have to say that Tina has met the challenge and we moved onto other areas. I am mostly done now. She also taught me a lot about life too, and about animal rescue, another favorite topic of hers.
I can definitely recommend her. Anyone can tackle the easy jobs, but she has the experience to tackle the tough jobs, which at least for me, is what counts.

I have been coming to Ronna for a year now, what keeps me dedicated is her skill along with her peaceful demeanor. She is precise with every insertion, keeping in mind my skin reaction and comfort. I have very minimal skin reaction and 15 – 20 minutes after my sessions with her, my skin is back to normal. Most importantly, I have results from the Electrolysis. Thank you Ms. Ronna!

Zap is wonderful! Every time I leave I feel confident and satisfied! Prices aren’t off the charts and they are very gentile with clients. They also are on time which is something that I really appreciate! Anna is the main reason I’m with them! She’s the best!

I went back again after talking to Tina and I booked a session with her. Perhaps Ana was having a bad day, or whatever, but Tina was great. She was very knowledgable and worked to get the settings right for me. The pain was minimal and she had a great personality. I booked another session with her for next week as I was pleasantly surprised at how good the experience was.

I’ve seen a few electrologists before seeing Tina, so I have some basis of comparison. I think she’s amazing. In additional to her personality, I also had the most effective results with her. For example, I told her how a few areas were being resistant to hair removal despite several rounds of treating them. She used a lower heat on those areas and my results were great. She also gave me tips on how to prevent scabbing which I am prone to. These are steps no other electrologists have taken.
Appointments are really convenient, she works weekends and lat evenings (until 9pm sometimes). I’m not writing this for any kind of discount. I just thought people should know how great this place is.
Parking is tough, there are 2 easy to miss spots and she can miss some of the smaller hairs, so it’s best to double check once she’s done.

My experience with Zap has been great from day one.
They are open on weekends, they have free parking (metered too), my phone calls are returned promptly, and I get a friendly reminder call before my appointment, and that’s all BEFORE I go into their office.
Once I’m in and brace for some electrocurrent action, the conversation begins to flow and Voila! it’s already time to go!
Tina (& Jermaine) are professional, thorough, and always make a slightly uncomfortable experience, a total breeze. Most importantly, my results have been GREAT! My only regret is not coming to Zap sooner.

Well, actually I won’t. But I’ll drive 50 miles for a zapping and that’s the truth. Why? Even though I’m generally not known as a shy type, at times I can be. Like when it comes to spreading my legs. I won’t spread ‘em for just anybody, you know.
Tina Reynolds has that warmly professional persona that dispels any angst I might have of an electrologist zapping hairs from my bikini area (sounds better than «crotch», doesn’t it?) and she makes the obvious discomfort almost fun, strange as that sounds, as we chit-​chat on this ‘n that for an hour. She boxes, skates and rescues dogs while I dabble in martial arts, surf and save whales… we have much in common.
Before you know it, its over and I’m a smoother, happier girl. And why do I subject myself to this process? Simple… I’m proud of my body and arrogant enough that I can still get away with wearing revealing beachwear and don’t mind showing it off. Life is short and I want my epitaph to read «She was saucy as hell and smooth as silk».
Someone recently referred to me as a «Type-​A woman» because I’m aggressive in what I want and not shy about going for it. In this case, I agree 100%. If a hair gets in my way, it’ll fry and Tina makes sure, in the most comfortable way, it’ll never come back.
Be sexy, Zap a hair and rescue a dog or save a whale. You only go around once, may as well make a smooth impact.
