Shawn Y.

Business Owner

I developed an interest in Martial Arts at the age of 15 and enrolled into the world famous Benny’s Jet Center. I practiced Karate, Kickboxing & Boxing early on, then moved on to Muay Thai where I competed from years 1996 – 2013 winning a handful of titles.

I have been trained extensively by well known world champions at renowned gyms to give me a well rounded arsenal of techniques allowing me to have a versatile fighting style.

I have traveled to Thailand & Holland for training & have fought worldwide. Throughout my years of experience in training, sparring & fighting, I am thrilled to be passing down my knowledge with the community that has shown me support throughout my endeavors.

This is a review for the kids kickboxing class:
My daughter has been interested in kickboxing ever since the 2nd grade. I kept putting it off thinking she was too young and that it was a phase she was going through, just to learn skills to torment her brother with. But after a few more years of her asking and with her in 5th grade I finally gave in and did some research on kickboxing studios in the valley. I feel very lucky that I went with my gut instinct to go with Shawn Yacoubian. So, the guy really knows his stuff. He competed professionally for many years and even has a few titles to show for it. He is extremely knowledgeable and patient with the kids. The classes are awesome, intensive but also a lot of fun. The first time my daughter went I thought there was no way she’d stick with it but she ended up LOVING it. She says Shawn keeps the classes interesting and he’s teaching her a lot of useful skills that are fun to do. We already go twice a week but she wants me to take her more because she has a lot of fun with her kickboxing buddies and she’s beginning to really see results in her body and mind. Honestly, after going to these classes she’s been a nicer person to be around at home and not so moody. I wish I had enough confidence to send her to Shawn’s Academy earlier because he has some pretty young kids in his classes now that are kicking butt. But better late than never. And she hasn’t used any of the skills on her brother. Thank goodness.
I highly recommend to this place any parent. And to get results you should really have your kid go twice a week. Once for the workout skills and one for the fundamentals. It works.

I came here to (Yacoubian Muay Thai) after checking out several other muay thai academies… I walked in sat down and watched Kru Shawn and Kru Luis training variety of all ages, down to 5 year olds… Watching from the side, you can sense their genuine passion for teaching from the way they communicated with students at all levels… During the class, Kru Shawn and Kru Luis lays out great balance, intensity and most importantly effective ways to develop proper technique… I’m 43 years old and tired from attending local GYM’s and basic weight training. I wanted a new challenge in my life and especially for my body (shocking my muscles) and muay thai /​combat martial art was my ticket, then I figured what could be better than learning it with my 15 year old son!
The coaches and advance classmates are welcoming, supportive, and helpful during the class which makes it more fun to learn!
I can’t wait to see all the transformation in both my self and my son hard work to pay off.
Lastly, I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to stop by and check out this wonderful academy…

I have trained with Shawn off and on for many years. Just recently started up with some private Muay Thai instruction. Been extremely happy with the progress we have made. Shawn’s mastery of Muay Thai is a product of his many years of fighting professionally while being trained with some of the best! If you have taken Muay Thai in a classroom situation the privates will allow you to improve in key areas with his inside-​the-​ring knowledge. If you are looking to try something new, give the classes a whirl. They are fun and challenging and Shawn is extremely patient and explains everything thoroughly.

Not your typical Muay-​Thai gym, whatever that may mean. If you want to not only learn, but improve with every class, then this is the place for you.
Shawn ensures that the students learn technique before utilizing power, in this way creating a balance and and a sort of ballet that is essential to mastering the art of eight limbs. He knows that it is very important to talk to students as they practice, so they know what is being done incorrectly and what they can improve upon. Shawn would rather have his students doing the techniques the right way than to have them practice something that would not be beneficial to them in the long run. It doesn’t hurt that he has also been training in the sport for 22 years and knows his stuff inside and out.
If you’re interested in starting up or giving it a shot, don’t hesitate. It’ll definitely be worth your time.

First time and it was awesome!!! My friend recommended that I try the classes and I’m so happy I did. Shawn was a great instructor, very hands on and makes you feel totally comfortable! I started Training with Shawn about two months ago and i can honestly say that classes have been great! I’ve enjoyed every one I’ve been to and was able to leave with new techniques each class. Although I haven’t been able to make every class, They are very hands on and patient with me as a new student. Everyone there is nice and knows what their doing so it’s an easy fit in! Beginner or advanced. Want to learn to fight or just shed few extra pounds. Training with Shawn will help you to achieve your goal. Place is friendly, trainer is attentive and knowledgable. There is certain type of martial art school where after class you feel that you could have done this at home with a self teaching DVDs. THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE! I never left class and felt unsatisfied or that I haven’t learned something new. I’ve dropped 4″ of my pants size, gained serious knowledge of footwork and Muay Thai technique. And did all on a budget. Compared to other spots this place is affordable and you definitely get most bang for your buck.

I’ve been training with Shawn for about more than 2 years now. When I started I could even kick without falling off balance or even throw a proper knee. I met Shawn when I was about 16 and loved his Muay Thai class, I’ve been training on and off with him since then and now I’m 21, i would not let anyone else train me, he goes in depth with his classes and you progress in your skills with the more time you spend with him .you learn so much and get a great work out, Also he’s a really nice guy and is willing to train anyone who is willing to work hard!
