Wilshire Branch Library

I’m here on a Saturday and it’s unexpectedly not packed. It’s a great place if you’re a student and you’re looking for a place to study that’s not packed for midterms! I definitely suggest anyone to come here. There is also free wifi and the décor is nice with an older modern look. I would definitely cone back again! However, I believe that parking might be a problem for some of you all. I did walk over because I don’t live too far away. There are also tons of computers to use, but outlets are only peels and near walls, obviously. They don’t have any multi outlets, which I think they could try to invest in. Out of all the packed libraries I’ve seen, I definitely would come back here.

Pretty decent library. When I went it was empty. Make sure to request the books you really want because chances are they will not have it permanently on site.

This is the noisiest library I’ve been to in Los Angeles. It could be a great location for me, because I can literally walk to it, but my apartment, complete with my neighbor’s thumping bass lines and my other’s raucous children, is still a better reprieve from the cacophony of everyday city life than this library branch. I mean, they have a frikkin play place with toys galore right next to their study tables, which definitely sees more use than any of the books on their shelves. I don’t understand. Libraries were once a place of silence, where one could go and collect your thoughts while perusing the collection of others, and now it seems they have turned into yet another space for boisterous social gatherings – especially for teenagers that lack any decorum – that it is impossible to do anything productive at a branch other than check out a book and immediately leave.
I do believe that they should provide two things: information – in digital or in book form, and a quiet place to consume said information. Libraries are not a place for animated conversation, nor a playground for your infants. What has happened to this understanding? The librarians themselves don’t seem to care, either! Surely I am not the only one who is frustrated by this?!?
And to the other reviewers who say it’s a «quiet place to study»…you’re joking right? Are you deaf? Am I the only one who hears the constant slamming of the front door, the chatty patrons, the crying children?
All I want is some peace and quiet. Is that so much to ask?!

This library is very conducive for studying. The library staff are very nice and helpful.
Cons: it gets really crowded so it’s hard to find a seat.
But overall. will be back again. I like the place.

You can rent movies and TV series from here, including Boardwalk Empire from HBO.
Free wifi, and an overall quality, quiet place to get some work done.
Decent hours, and after hours drop box to boot.
I’m proud to see my tax dollars hard at work here.
In some ways, this is better than the downtown central branch since there aren’t as many vagrants mumbling to the wall in the cubicle next to you.
