The Sweets Truck

I scored on a Christmas eve and found The Sweets Truck parked at the Grand Park in downtown, Los Angeles. I asked the staff whether the truck frequents the Grand Park to which he responded that it was for a special event, but it’s possible that it can be regular event.
I picked up the Whoopie cake, gingerbread mini cupcake and the blueberry mini cupcake for $ 6.50. I called my daughter to ask which ones she wanted, but she was taking her baby nap so she didn’t answer. She was happy with all of them.

Try the coconut cupcake with cream cheese frosting! So good. Oh, and Lil Rae’s Cakes are pretty darn tasty too!
…Does it make me a lard for stalking this truck often?

I found the Sweets Truck earlier this year, and after several visits its still one of my favorite food trucks!
The Red Velvet Whoopie Pie is a confectionary dream! If I would have this every time if I wasn’t so intent on trying a little bit of everything when I visit. The creamy center was sweetened just perfectly to complement the chocolate in the red velvet. Heaven in my mouth!
I’ve also tried the Red Velvet Ding Dong with Raspberry Cream filling. Awesome. I tried to make the dessert experience last longer by cutting it in half and saving the rest for dinner later.
Recently from a Wheel Food Wednesday event I bought a cup of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Also very good, but I think I am partial to the chocolate desserts they offer.
Their cremosas (Italian soda & half & half) are refreshing, and the girl suggested I try a regular Italian soda with pomegranate & passion fruit flavoring. What a great combo that was!
FYI — If you go to the Wheel Food Wednesdays in Pasadena, the offerings are limited, as they usually just have a cart. The truck will always have a wonderful variety of desserts to eat.
If you have an opportunity to try something from this truck, you won’t be disappointed!

The daily variety of desserts & sweet treats are hand picked daily from local professional bakers, pastry chefs as well as their own Sweets Truck Signature items.
After viewing their cookies, red velvet sandwiches, cupcakes in a cup and cupcakes, I opted for the ice cream cookie sammy at $ 4.00 each. I ordered two of the «Bitchin Chocolate Chocolate» and my friend got the «Strawberry Surfer Girl» made by Malibu’s Natural Ice Cream Beachy Cream. All the ingredients are organic. The cookie isn’t as chewy or sweet as some of the other ice cream cookie sandwiches I’ve had before. It has a different consistency (not a bad thing just different).
The chocolate ice cream had a deep cocoa flavor. MMM not bad! not bad at all! Although $ 4 for a little cookie sandwich is a little much. However, Molly the owner has emphasized that these are not produced in mass production and are made locally so it’s understood. (they would originally cost $ 5)
The workers on the truck were nice & very friendly.
They also serve coffee and espresso roasted locally and premium teas to go along with your dessert (s). Iced Cofee is $ 3 and Iced Caramel Latte is $ 4. Other beverage items include Strawberry kiwi or Green Apple Italian soda at $ 3.00.

THE best sweets truck period! and their giant Red Velvet cupcake is TO.DIE.FOR.

This review is only for their Iced Mocha. I haven’t tried anything else there.
I’m a total Coffee Junkie and I must have my triple shot of espresso everyday. I love coffee so much, that I went out and bought myself the Starbucks espresso machine. I know my coffee. I’m a coffee addict. I get cranky when i don’t get my coffee and can get bitchy when my coffee withdraw kicks in (do yourself a favor just run for your life and stay away from me… lol.).
I was very surprised that their Iced Mocha had a pleasantly strong coffee flavor. I could def taste the coffee (nice aroma) with the hint of chocolate. I loved how it wasn’t too sweet. It’s a hundred times better than StarSucks. I mean Starbucks. I admit, from time to time, I do go to Starbucks and that’s only because ppl keep buying me gift cards.
If any of my close friends are reading this… no more Starbuck cards pls (cheesy smile =). I would love you guys forever if you get me some coffee from The Sweets Truck or better yet some Blue Mountain Jamaican beans. J/​K LOl…

SOOO… I guess I literally brought the wife home a pair of balls in a sack so she could put them in her mouth. People, people, please! I can’t make this stuff up… Bitesize cake balls (Vanilla and Chocolate) to go! Balls and goodies from the sweets truck was the dinner plan tonight!
Not being a huge fan of sweets I was ready to leave after my 3 random food truck binge in a Best Buy parking lot. However… being the sometimes, semi-​responsible husband I pretend to be… I call up the wife and ask her if she’d like anything. I gladly get her a vanilla cake bite ball
, a chocolate cake bite ball
, an apple pie rice krispie treat
and a triple fudge chocolate brownie
. because the wife doesn’t fu*k around when it comes to dessert for dinner.
The cake balls seemed a little dense to me but pretty tasty and somewhat moist. I’ll admit the rice krispie treat had a surprising apple pie flavor which I enjoyed and the brownie could have only been made better with peanut butter… or bacon… or both.
Well done sweets truck… next time you roll around my hood… you best be bringing around those damn bacon balls (thanks Michelle)

Wasn’t sure what to order so the lady in the truck was cool and nice enough to give me the scoop.
I was bit hesitant about the premium prices on these cupcakes but the lady did a good job and pretty much sold me haha. I ended up with 4 cupcakes (2 red velvet, 1 coconut/​chocolate, and 1 carrot cake), and their chocolate vanilla ding dong.
My favorite overall was the red velvet, second was the coconut/​chocolate, third the carrot cake, and fourth the ding dong. The cupcakes were moist and the frosting was sweet enough to savor the sometimes absent cream cheese flavors.
I’m definitely adding this truck to my list.

The cupcakes were from Auntie Em’s (another place I’ve been wanting to try) — so they probably looked more homemade and I may have mistaken them as not being better than they are.
I appreciate that Molly took the time to write to me regarding my review and like I said in my previous review, I’d would like to try them out again. =)

We weren’t welcomed with informative answers when we were inquiring about the different pastries offered. I almost felt like we were a nuisance more than anything.

My second trip in three weeks to Southern California resulted in yet another food truck adventure. This time it was The Sweets Truck (
) parked within the Pine Street Block Party this past Friday night in Long Beach. I was headed off to dinner when I first spotted it so as soon as I finished my meal I returned to check out some of the goods.
Everything on the menu sounded darn good (
) and everything on display looked equally good. I only settled for four items to take back to my hotel room to indulge in that night.
Chocolate Chip Cookies (
) — Flat and chewy these were 6 inch cookies with dime sized chocolate chips. The cookie was quite crisp, but it was also quite chewy with a slight molasses type flavor. I liked it, and its near-​paper thin construction allowed me to play with it and create it into other shapes such as this bird’s head (
).
Oreo Cookies (
) — These looked more like a Whoopie Pie than they did an Oreo. I put down a quarter to show its size comparison. This cookie was thick and heavy! After a few bites though the sweet frosting seemed to only get sweeter so I scraped it all off and simply enjoyed the crisp, chewy dark chocolate cookies.
White Chocolate Blondie (
) — This was also available in a pumpkin flavor, but pumpkins and I don’t get along. It’s a standard sized square withs lots of crushed walnuts on top. Exceptionally moist and chewy these blondies were loaded with white chocolate chips. I liked this one a lot despite it being super sweet. The cookie batter itself had a slight butteryness in its flavor.
Plain Chocolate Brownie (
) — The moment I unwrapped the brown wax paper from this treat the chocolatey aroma rose up and knocked me back into my chair. The brownie smelled so good I broke off a chunk and ate it before I remembered to take a photo of it. This was moist and chewy with just a few semi-​sweet chocolate chips. It was so sinfully delicious I made a special trip down to the hotel gift shop just to buy a bottle of milk to wash it all down with. That was even more amazing considering that I’m lactose intolerant!
The delicious desserts left me awake and happy for hours that night!

Sweets Truck: since ur in the Valley anyways while ur picking up deliciousness from Auntie Ems, can u please pick up some cheeserolls to sell to us from Portos (Just kidding… sort of)? Many will be happy i predict. :P

Tasty treats, BUT:
The cupcakes are bite size, yet two bucks each.
I only wanted one Whoopie Pie. But they’re 2 for $ 3, and I wasn’t allowed to just buy 1. They should advertise it as 2 for $ 3, but if a customer asks for 1, give it to em for $ 1.50 for heaven’s sake!
My buddy was all stoked on the Cakewich, but $ 4 for a glorified Ding-​Dong? Eyeeee dunnoo bout that…
I was given a frequent buyer punch card, but they refused to punch it that day. What the heck? Had they made 1 punch on the card, I’d keep it just in case. Now it’s not going to get the honor of taking up some of my precious wallet real estate.

The Sweets Truck — Maple bacon cake ball
We decided that in order to try as many trucks as possible, we’d purchase an item or two to share from each one that piqued our interest.
The Sweets Truck was one of the first I spotted, and although I felt more like eating savory and substantial — I decided to get my dessert on first, why not?! Went with the maple bacon cake ball and was not disappointed. Cake was moist, not crumbly at all, semi-​hard frosting was delicious and the bacon sprinkled on top gave it a great salty/​sweet flavor combo.
Friendly people, nice display of cakes and confections — will be sure to try more items next time I see them around town. Can’t wait to try their Whoopie pies!

I’ve never tried any of the food trucks before and I was curious to try one out. It seemed all of my Unilocal friends love these food trucks and I was the only one that hadn’t tried any of the food trucks yet =/​.
Fast forward to today. I was going to an event benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network. I didn’t know The Sweets Truck would be there until I saw the cute little truck parked at the back. Woohoo! I knew I had to go check it out :).
I wasn’t sure what to expect. At first I thought they only offered coffee drinks (those were all that I could read from their sign from afar) but as I stepped up closer I saw they offered cupcakes and other sweet treats. The first thing that caught my eye were the red velvet cupcakes and the carrot cake cupcakes. I also saw whoopie pies. I then saw cupcakes in a cup. Hmm these intrigued me. I’ve never seen cupcakes in a cup before. I saw they were decently priced at $ 3/​$ 4. I decided on getting a red velvet cupcake in a cup.
Ahh it was a good choice :). The cupcake in a cup was delicious! The red velvet cupcake itself was very moist. The cream cheese was sweet. Now some advice for those who get this: you should mix up the red velvet and the cupcake with your spoon. I ended up not mixing it up before eating it and ended up with a whole bunch of frosting left and no more cake hehe at the end.
The cupcake in a cup is also a great deal. I got the $ 3 version and it was plenty. I actually split with my mom because it was pretty big.
All in all I was happy with my first try of a food truck. Though I only bought one thing, I was quite happy with The Sweets Truck. Hmm I wonder when it’ll be rolling around my area again… I’d be willing to try some other stuff out :).

My school recently had an event and this was one of the trucks they brought. Since it was an event, we got to pick whatever we want for FREE.
I went for the RED VELVET MOONPIE and the CRACK BAR. DE-​LI-​CIOUS!!! Red velvet was smooth and the cream cheese frosting was not overly sweet! And the crack bar, the name just says it all! Simply AMAZING!
5 stars for being so yummy and free!

What d-​bag told this truck where I work? Which masochistic son of a gun let that information out?! How did they find me?!
Here I am, walking to the mailbox minding my own beeswax and then this little voice speaks to me:

Now, everyone knows when food speaks you can’t ignore it. That’s just down right rude and who wants to be the rude one? Not me. Even if it is just a cat call or a cry for attention, food can not be ignored. Bad things happen; like not experiencing the Sweets Truck! Oh my gosh, so magical. Who is the genius who thought of making cake «bread» and icing the «filler»? *melts a little* All I know is that I am now going to follow this truck like it is its own cult. I bought the red velvet and carrot, because they asked me to, and was asked which one is better. I said ‘That’s like asking length or girth’. .. ew gross I was totally talking about UPS boxes. What were YOU thinking? ;)
In any case. Cakes here were good. I also got a sample of some kind of chocolate mint crack bar thing. Operative word here is crack, I’m craving more of it right now, and those who know me know I really don’t eat chocolate. They ran out of it but I’ll be back.

I didn’t retry anything from the Sweets Truck to up my one star review to 3 but I received a message from Owner Molly T saying that she was bummed and surprised to hear that I wasn’t a fan of anything I tried from the truck the other day at SFF.
I’m a FOH manager and customer service is my thing and great customer service is enough for me to write an update and up my stars without even giving them another try first. In our buis, bad feedback is good feedback and it only helps you to better your buis. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and let alone respond to and acknowledge my bad experience and try to make it better.

The Extreme Red Velvet Cookie is one of the best things I have eaten. Ever.
No – not one of the best red velvet desserts. No – not one of the best desserts. One of the best THINGS I have consumed. End of story.
And their coffee was good too.

A bit expensive, but the cookies are pretty amazing!
I had a red velvet cookie and a piece of a peanut butter cookie today, both of which are kind of like cookie chipwiches, just with cupcake frosting-​like filling in the middle instead of ice cream. Most of the cookies are $ 3+ (the cookiewiches being $ 3.75), with mini cupcakes coming in at $ 2. At first glance, I thought it was too expensive, but after eating my red velvet cookie that I enjoyed more than I do a red velvet from Sprinkles (I’ve had too many?), I’d venture to say that I’m ok with the price.
The truck is largely baked goods and it would be great for them to venture out and get something like the Crème Brulee’ that The Dessert Truck in New York has. If you’re a fan of baked sweets, it’s worth giving The Sweets Truck a shot. The people are super friendly and best of all for the food trucks, it only takes two seconds to get your stuff.
