The Lyric Theatre

I’ve been to the Lyric Theatre twice, both for the Goddamn Comedy Jam.
Comedy Jam is a once a month comedy and music show. Four comics perform a 15 minute set, then perform a song. The host, Josh Adam Meyers, is incredibly funny. I had eyeliner streaming down my face while he performed his songs. Another great thing about the Jam is that there is no mandatory 2 drink minimum. You can buy tickets in the standing room area or pay an additional $ 10 to sit in a chair.
My cousin (through marriage) made a comment on my Instagram from a Russell Peters show I attended, saying how I need to let them know about his next show.
Bill Burr was slated to be at the Comedy Jam. He’s a favorite of ours. As a bonus, Jo Koy was going to be there, so I got four tickets. I figured it was a safe bet to assume that if you’re a Russell Peters fan, you would also be into Jo Koy’s comedy.
Comedy Jam always falls on a Monday night. So my cousins are both normal folks with jobs and stuff, but it was right before Thanksgiving and I figured they would have a light schedule that week. My cousin knew a little about Jo Koy and her husband had never heard his comedy before. I was excited for them both. And I knew I would score major cool points for the show.
Burr was amazing. He didn’t sing, but instead did the drumming for «Highway to Hell». Tiffany Haddish and Dean Delray also performed and had great sets. Haddish has an amazing voice and I subscribed to Delray’s podcast the next day. I have to say that Jo Koy stole the show. For a while he was doing shows at Ice House, but since joining Chelsea Lately, I hadn’t seen his name around. I’ve watched his specials and he had quite a bit of new material that night. More importantly, my cousins thought he was hilarious.
The venue is located a few blocks from Melrose and La Brea. There is plenty of meter parking in the area. You shouldn’t have to walk more than two blocks. Doors are at 8, show starts at 9. Tickets are sold as standing room section and seating area. The capacity is right around 200. The stage is small, but is enough for the 5 piece Goddamn Band.
The second time we went, I wanted to see Sarah Silverman and Bert «The Machine» Kreischer. When we got our wristbands, there were signs up about no cell phone use during the show due to the caliber of the performers. Silverman. The bf called it. They brought out Louis CK. He was in LA and did a surprise set. It was a thrill to see him perform in that intimate setting. I don’t know how The Comedy Jam is going to top this, but I will be there when they do.

This place is sooooo lame! There is no parking any where in the neighborhood! I got a 73 $ parking ticket.
I don’t think this place has a liquor license either.

Such a cute venue. Very intimate, very good lighting. I had a very fun time watching LANY and I had space to dance a little too.

Took my fiancé here last Monday night (9÷14÷15) to see the incomparable Sebastian Maniscalco live for the second time, opened by the awesome and hilarious Brian Lee who actually ended his performance showcasing his assless underwear then going full frontal nudity as he went offstage. Brilliant.
My poor review is for the host and the theater management. First off, the AC was not working. With a packed house, it was, as Sebastian quipped, «like everyone was doing Bikram yoga in here.» Now, things happen and the show must go on, but the theater management could have opened some stage doors, went out and bought some fans, or even distributed free water and ice to the packed room if they had cared enough. Instead they packed people in, continued to charge for water and kept the doors closed. It was crazy hot! I can’t even imagine how bad it was for the performers on stage under the lights.
By far, however, the worst part of the show for me was the host’s act, Josh Adam Meyers & the Goddamn Band. I’m guessing that physically jumping on top of a male audience member while saying he wanted to have gay sex with him, and racially insulting the lone African-​American in the audience by starting a sing-​along with the band and nearly all-​white audience with the refrain «black guys like group sex» (immediately after this the man subsequently left with his companion, to which the host’s reaction was, «fuck him») were supposed to be «edgy», but it came off as incredibly lame, racist and just in no way funny. Josh himself came off as incredibly egotistical and trying way too hard.
Thanks for bringing Sebastian, though even he said this was a gig his wife pushed him to do. Nice lady (we sat next to her), but I can’t imagine he’ll be taking booking advice from her anytime soon!

The best place to see a comedy show in LA. The staff is phenomenal. The venue is intimate and cozy. From the up and coming comics, cutting their teeth, to some of the largest names in comedy, the talent cannot be beat. Not with a stick. A big one. I have attended so many shows here and I will continue to give them as much money as I can. They are doing great things and deserve to be recognized for all their hard work. Thank you, Lyric Theater.

One of the best comedy venues around, I love everything about this theater. There’s AstroTurf on the walls, the bar is easily accessible, staff is friendly, and even if you only get standing room tickets, you won’t mind standing to watch the great talent perform.
I would recommend getting tickets online. They’re more expensive at the door, and you can make sure you get a seat.

Cool spot with a surprising and wide array of artists and events. Watch the parking signs in the surrounding area, though!

I had never heard of this place before. Though I’m a Los Angeles native, there’s so many things I’m still discovering about this city and that’s what I love about LA. One of my latest favorite artists was performing here for only $ 10 so I had to check it out. She actually wasn’t the headliner but for $ 10 you really have nothing to lose.
Parking was pretty easy. Parked in a residential area that didn’t have those confusing parking signs you typically see in la. I walk to the theatre and the line is so long. I was shocked cause the show was supposed to start at 8pm and we got there close to 10. I guess everyone else did as well. Ok, this is where I had to dock a point, they were letting in people on guestlist before the paying customers. I’ve never seen this at a concert. That’s something you typically see at a club not a concert. I found that strange.
Inside. This place is super intimate. Standing room only. Short people stand in front or else you wont see anything! I had a great view of the stage. I love seeing up and coming artists live because they tend to be very humble and approachable. After the show I was able to meet Kelela, the artist I originally came to see. So cool. I also saw the headliner just chilling outside talking to some friends. Lyric Theatre also has happy hour specials at the bar. I remember there was one from 11p-​12am. $ 5 well drinks.
Overall, I would recommend this place if you want to catch a performer before they make it big!

Tonight I had gone to the Lyric Theatre and they had mistakingly given me a 21 and over bracelet. I fully admitted to being underage to the manager and willingly showed him my ID and told him that I didn’t want the bracelet. They then followed to kick me out of the venue when I didn’t even drink and I went to get some fresh air by the door without even leaving the venue knowing that people under 21 could not leave. The Lyric Theatre should receive some sort of penalty for giving underage people bracelets and not checking IDS. I find it beyond unfair that I had to miss a once in a lifetime experience that as a 20 year old I will be unable to experience because Sum 41 is one of my favorite bands and does not tour often. I have always wanted to see them live and due to the venues irresponsibility and error I missed out on a show that I paid for along with parking. I’m hoping you guys will reconsider this venue for your future tours and performances you decide to participate in. I go to plenty of concerts and never have I experienced an issue of this sort, I will continue to be a ticketfly customer but I will go out of my way to file a complaint about this venue and make people fully aware of their poor service.

Great place to see shows! The staff are friendly, the place is unique, never too hot or too cold inside, all a very great experience. Ryan, the owner, is the nicest guy and wants everyone to enjoy themselves and enjoy the music. Definitely would recommend bands play here for great exposure, and for people to come for a personal experience. Comedy night here is also awesome.

Came here for a stand up once. It’s very small and that day it was very warm inside. But hey, maybe it was just that day? Or maybe I was nervous about being picked on that I got really hot. Any who, we also bought popcorn and it tasted days old. Definitely do not buy their popcorn haha. Other then that, cool little spot.

This is about the tiniest venue I’ve ever been at but I think that’s what I like about it too. You can almost touch the artist on stage being so close to the stage. I wouldn’t recommend doing that however, as that’s rather rude. Well unless they reach out for you then why not. Just don’t touch people without their permission… Anyway I’m getting off topic. The venue is great for intimate concerts and I’m assuming comedy shows as well because I was looking through their site and seeing some rather big name comics performing here but I was unfortunately too busy to go to them. The sound system seems pretty good too, although the artist I was seeing was having some technical difficulties and I’m not sure if it’s their fault or the venue for the troubles, but it’s sort of nice seeing the behind the scene stuff once in a while.
And I’m not sure how normal this is to places in LA, but there’s like a vending alcohol tester machine near the bathrooms which I think is pretty hilarious and rad.

The place is so small, but I like the décor.
We went there last night for an album release party, and everything was chill.
Bartenders were nice. however the drinks were very pricey and they weren’t strong at all.

I go to the Lyric about twice a month for the Secret Super Comedy Shows. Always an amazing lineup and a super fun evening! Because it’s a new venue theres definitely kinks that they’re working out, but they go out of their way to make sure that their patrons feel appreciated, even so much as to provide free shows! I think it keeps getting better in there, and I absolutely CANNOT GET ENOUGH of how cool the interior is. Such a cool space! Will be going there again soon and recommend it to others :-)

Normal L.A. club. Okay sound, kinda lackadaisical management, and stupidly expensive drinks.
Also, like most venues, they have no idea what time any of the bands are going on. «Um, the first band should start sometime between 8 and 9…»

Came for the Super Secret Comedy show on a Wednesday night. If you don’t find parking on La Brea, snag a spot on one of the streets to the north or south. Cute theater, clean, with comfortable seating, come early to grab a seat. Beer and wine only, my Heineken was $ 6. why so pricey? Cool staff and crowd. theres a breathalyzer by the restrooms to save you from that $ 10 000 DUI –don’t drink and drive!

Came by to see Goldfish! Great little venue they had here and the guys packed the place. It’s an 18 and over spot so lots of «kids» around. Nice loung area with couches and seats/​tables. 2 sets of «bars» with a handful of bottled beers and a good amount of top shelf liqours. Kinda pricey at $ 6 for beer and $ 9 for the liquor. Parking is available on the street. Great show that Goldfish put on and we had a blast. Depending on the artist (s), we may just come back.

I came here Saturday night to check out some djs that we’re playin and it was really fun!
The night started out a bit late though because no one was there at 8 so they pushed the opening to 830. Unfortunately, my friend and I were their first visitors. The great side to this part was that the bartenders were so awesomely nice! They have us a free shot and we chatted it up :) I love their hospitality and consideration towArds customers of their alcohol consumption haha! Always asking of we wanted water!
I’d come back!

Aside from the disgusting way they spell THEATER, this place is SPOT ON!
If you have the opportunity to catch a show at the Lyric Theatre, DO IT!
Nestled in southern Hollywood off Melrose and La Brea, the Lyric Theatre is a delight.
I’ve fortunately been asked to perform (comedy) at this theater three times. Hands down, the Lyric Theatre is the best venue I’ve ever performed in.
The location of the venue isn’t the greatest, but once you’re inside, you know coming was worth it.
You walk into the theater and the first thing you see is the box office. It’s a host-​stand with an unbelievably attractive girl working. Save your breathe, though, she isn’t having any of it. (Believe me; I tried.)
The inside of this theater is awesome. It’s very Hollywood-​esque. There is a bar to the left and bathrooms straight back. The stage and seating is kiddie-​corner to the box office. The theater has 100 seats and there isn’t a bad one in the house. For the comedy shows, they spread a few couches around to lighten the mood. There is also standing space in the back. The past two shows have been PACKED they had people sitting on other people. The theater seats 100, but we had 140+ people in the place. It was nuts.
This place gets pretty wild. It gets loud. It gets fun.
I have only seen comedy here, but I am sure it doubles as a great play, concert, or art venue.
Tips:
–Get there early to get a place to sit. You don’t want to be standing for two hours.
–Wear light clothing — it gets very hot in the theater.
–Get tickets online — they’re cheaper than at the door.
PROS:
–Cheap drinks
–Intimate
–Fun
–Inviting
–Crazy
–Couches
–Comfortable
–Easy to find on La Brea
–Parking (Oakwood street parking is perfect)
CONS:
–Bathroom situation. There are only two toilets in the whole place. You’ll be waiting in line for a while.

This past weekend, one of my favorite EDM Promo Teams in Los Angeles (Harmonic Productions) threw an epic, classy and top notch party at the Lyric Theatre and I cannot wait for more! The venue is perfectly unassuming from the front, but inside there was plenty of dancing, booty shakin and music appreciating to be had.
I hope more teams decide to throw events here; I’d love to come back!
