The Lounge On Wilshire

I really love this place! I just started coming and it doesn’t get any better than this! The salon is really cute, you come in, put a smock on (makes you feel like you’re at a spa), then Risa gives you an idea of what treatment to use on your hair. When you’re getting treated, you get this magic and growth stimulator for your hair, followed by a hair smoothie. They massage the smoothie and magic into your scalp and it feels amazing! They are even very gentle with your hair. I’ve been to many stylist and I have always hated how my hair would look so thin and ate up, so I would throw it up in a bun. Here, I love my hair down. It comes out so shiny and bouncy, and on top of that it looks better the older it gets! Looks like you stepped out of a Pantene commercial. It’s like being treated like royalty here. I have found what I have been looking for in a hair salon :)

Went to Risa last week and I was skeptical. This week I am IN LOVE with my hair STILL. Texture is amazing and her technique is like NO OTHER! I have never had anyone do my hair so well and have it last this long. Body, bouncy and soft. Once you go to Risa, you won’t go anywhere else again! I am just sad I live out of town and can’t go more often!

I’m keeping my original rating, and I know I went in a long time ago, but I realize now I forgot to update my review in the days after my appointment.
Yes, my hair was still fly, but it absolutely REEKED like burnt hair for about 3 or 4 days from the flat iron. I talked to my braider who referred me, and she assured me that she had never heard of anyone else with this complaint. Come to find out that stylist was no longer working there, so maybe she didn’t fit their usually high standards. I’m now in the South Bay but I’d consider giving them a try again, for sure.

I recently discovered The Hair Lounge, so I did a little online research. I even ran into a woman at the nail spa who spoke highly of the owner Risa and their services. So after doing my big chop last year, I refused to put a weave back in. I braided my hair up every two weeks to let my hair breath and grow naturally. I would not blow dry it or straighten it, absolutely No heat!!! I would just braid it up while wet. Anyways down the line 8months later my hair is Virgin no heat damage no perm no color and it’s full and let’s say about 4 ½ inches. Now at this time I wanted to get treatments and have a professional care for my hair while growing.
I finally got my appointment booked with Risa in early July, for my first time and it went well. Everyone was nice and polite and she answered all the questions I could possibly think of at the time. We even kept in touch by phone, to really assist me through the week before my next appointment. I mean she wasn’t the basic stylist do my hair collect my money and send me on my way, she really took care of me! And I appreciate that.
Hair results: my hair is not damaged, it’s not as dry as it was, it’s looking beautiful shiny healthy and bouncy. Not to mention my hair isn’t shredding all over the place when I comb or play in it.
I would recommend this place to any and everybody :()

I took my (then) 4 year old daughter here for a service/​treatment and she loved it. She was treated wonderfully, her million and 2 questions were answered and her hair looked fabukous when she left. I was given advice on hair care and fhe stylist went with me to the salon to choose products for her hair. My daughter received treatment without any heat. Our family relocated to the bay area a few months sfter finding this salon, but I am committed to returning every time we visit So. Cal. Risa was very open about her natural hair care methods.
I also recieved a hair treatment. My hair remained fabulous for the next 6 months. Her methods are amazing!
I look forward to my next trip to L.A. so that my daughter and I can return for more hair treatment and styling.
The price can break the bank, but feeling great about your hair is priceless.

I went to the Lounge about a year ago because my hair was breaking terribly and I needed a treatment. Risa pulled off my hat and ran her hands through my hair. She looked at her hand disgustingly and said «What is this?» I had some coconut oil on my to keep it from being so dry which I explained to her. She rolled her eyes and told me to go upstairs so someone could wash it out. She was so rude and acted incredibly entitled. I’ve never seen a hair stylist with an attitude like that. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back here.

I had been looking for a place that I could trust to do my natural hair. After much research I decided on The lounge on Wilshire. I called two and a half weeks in advance and made my spot for Risa. They asked what time I would prefer I said the morning so they said they would call me back. They ended up giving me a time for 3:55 in the afternoon. I would be Risa’s last appt so she could take her time with me since I was a new client. I wouldn’t get into her chair until 6:55… Ummm ok guess I’m gonna be here for quite some time.
Fast forward till today the day of my appt and I get a call from the receptionist saying that Risa was going out of town and since I was a new client she didn’t have time to accommodate me. Wait a minute I explained I just took my hair out of a 300 sew in to have Risa straighten my hair. And I have to meet with clients in person next week.
She said she would call Risa and see what she could do.
5 minutes later she calls back and says oh well you can get a deep conditioning and set but no one would be available to straighten your hair, I have extremely course natural hair I explained, all she could do is say sorry. On a Saturday this place leaves me without a appt. Then she places me on hold. Horrible horrible place. No call directly from the stylist and no one else to do my hair. I will never patronize this place not even if they offered my free services!

I have been a customer of Risa Johnson for five years. She believes in natural hair care. She does very little chemical work. She convinced me to stop relaxing my hair around two years ago. I was resistant, but agreed since every other request has improved the look and feel of my hair. Also, being from the south, I thought it impossible to keep my roots straight. My hair is healthy, does not shed and grows quickly. It holds up even in the midst of working out and traveling back to the humidity of the east coast. She is pricy, but her hair smoothies (proteins, vitamins, amino acids conditioners) are the bomb. I have never seen anyone use the techique of pressing your roots and flat ironing your hair as gently as she does.

I have finally found a home for my hair where the hairdresser isn’t trying to fry my hair to make me a new candidate for a full wig! Nothing wrong with wigs… But I like wearing my hair since I got some. In the past people have only been able to address my hair «issues» with using a certain shampoo. But at the Lounge, I feel like my hair has a voice… it’s own voice. My hairs inner voice gets to chat with Riza (the hair smoothie mad mastermind) is able to see beyond the strengths of my hair and address its’ weakness with crazy unheard of mixtures that have in the past included things like fresh garlic and avocado to treat my insane itchy dry flaky– flaky scalp (like snow drifts of the north east at blizzard). One thing I must add is that I live on a super tight budget (meaning I believe in the value of my pennies!). Getting my hair done @ The Lounge is a financial sacrifice and yet a necessity because I value my «crown of glory». Lastly, if you have long thick hair — this place has a timed process that takes at least three to five hours before walking out with hair that flows in the wind!

Risa Johnson is simply AMAZING! I had to step away from her chair for a year and regret it so much! However, she is getting my hair back in shape with her natural products and treatments. ALL women who care about healthy care with no chemicals (Yes no relaxer!) should get in her chair ASAP! Please don’t be scared of the price. Remember you truly get what you pay for! It is worth EVERY penny! Trust!
