I have tried for years to get my hair to grow beyond my shoulder and platinum. Joseph has been the only colorist to get my hair the color I want it while reviving it from years of harsh, crappy bleach and color processing that was careless by stylists who seemed to know what they were doing. HE IS ON THE NEXT LEVEL.
Kathy is also top-​shelf.

I walked in with long red hair and walked out with short, cool blonde hair — not an easy transition if you’re not familiar with working with red hair. Kathy was a total pro — patient, funny, and extremely talented. She consulted with Joseph a couple times making it a whole collaborative process. It was definitely not cheap but they did such an amazing job I will be back for all the maintenance my new hair needs.

I just moved back to LA in July and was having trouble finding a go to salon. After an extremely terrible experience at another LA salon [see my last review] I was almost ready to give up, but then my friend Jessica recommended Kathy at The Loft for cut and color. She had thicker hair similar to mine and was very confident in her recommendation.
My whole experience from booking my appointment to paying was amazing. Joseph, the owner was so much fun even though I only interacted with him for a few seconds to say hi. He greeted me upon entering, offered me beverages and made sure i was comfortable before grabbing Kathy who was wrapping up with a client.
She sat me down and immediately listened to my needs. After a shitty color job at my last salon, I was over ombré and wanted to go back to dark natural hair, and she knew exactly what was needed to get me there. She also gave me a greta haircut that complimented my thick hair and kept in mind that I was growing my hair out so she only added enough layers to take some weight and damaged ends off.
BEST PART?! This place offers 20% off all services for your first visit! But even without the discount I still find their prices extremely reasonable. This will definitely be my go to salon in LA going forward and I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone seeking great service at great prices.

Great job! They give me drinks and the girl gave me great advice! I loved the way she did my hair! It was completely what I envisioned!

Kathy is so talented! She just gave me the most amazing haircut I have ever had. She layered my curly hair so perfectly, everyone keeps asking me who did it and wants to go to her.

Kathy is the best stylist! After moving to LA, I had been to numerous hair stylists until I found her. She does a great job with cuts, and gives the best scalp massages during shampoos. She is so skillful with the blade that she can perform close cuts of the sides with only her shears and a comb. Guys, if your hair stylist can’t do that you should go to someone else!
In addition to being technically skillful, is also a great fun to talk to. Never a dull moment and always offers you wine with your cut. Thanks Kathy!

Very nice place, Kathy is sweet and im sure she can cut hair, but she cannot do platinum blonde hair. She made my hair yellow and caused unessecary damage. Also charged me for a second round of bleach after i said it was yellow, uneven and not what i had asked for. I got my hair saved at another salon.

The Loft is my good to when ever I need to treat myself, I’ve never walked away unhappy. It has the best atmosphere around and I’ve never trusted a hair salon more.
You are going to have so much fun getting your hair done, it’s almost like therapy! I want to give them high praise, but I also kind of want to keep the Loft my little secret gem. If you want to look like a million bucks, the Loft is going to be your best bet!!!

I used to hate getting my haircut. Hated it. Until about 4 years ago, when my future wife told me about Joseph and The Loft 8W. We live in Long Beach and the idea of driving up to LA for a haircut seemed ridiculous. Turns out, it’s bitchen. I look forward to it every month. We drive up, leave our car in the lot across the street to get it washed while we’re there, bring a bottle of wine up, take elevator up to the 8^th floor, walk into an awesome space with a great view (see photo), drink wine, chat with Joseph, Kathy, and Summer (stylists), pet Gertrude and Chicken (pups), and laugh.
Then, we head down to Cole’s across the street for French dips and classic cocktails. In addition to the good time, Joseph has easily given me the best haircuts I’ve ever had. My wife loves him and says there’s nobody better for cuts and color. I’ve brought a couple of other folks up from Long Beach and they’re converts now, too. If you’re looking for THE best stylist AND a good time, The Loft 8W is the place. I’ll never go anywhere else. Unless Joseph moves.

KATHY is AMAZING! I’m really glad I discovered this place on Unilocal because it’s right across the street from where I live and super convenient! I was in desperate need of a hair cut. My hair was extremely DRY and getting to the point of unmanageable. So I called to schedule an appointment and was surprised I was able to get an appointment the same day! I told Kathy I still wanted to keep my length and usually hairstylists cut off 5 inches when you say that. Kathy managed to keep my length, gave me extra layers, and made my hair soft again! I will definitely come back! :) Thanks Kathy!

Kathy is THE best stylist! I’m so happy to have finally made up my mind and decided to go to The Loft! After a bad experience at a salon in Claremont, I was scared to trust another stylist again, so I neglected my hair for years. I read tons of reviews of different salons in SoCal and when I got to The Loft, I had a feeling this was going to be the one.
It’s strategically located in the heart of downtown LA, but on an eight floor, so you don’t get curious passers-​by looking at you. I loved that a lot and the space in general; it’s beautifully decorated, very luminous, has a great view and most importantly, has highly qualified professionals.
As soon as I met Kathy, I knew she was going to do a great job. She has a bubbly personality and you can tell she knows what she’s talking about. I knew I wanted to get a hair cut and then possibly have the tips dyed green, but was not sure. She seemed very confident about such major changes and I trusted her 100%. I really appreciate all the tips she gave me about how to style and take care of my hair; no stylist had ever shared such knowledge with me before. Right after I told her I wanted ombré green hair, she told me my many gray hairs were going to add a special touch to it, which I thought was awesome, given that a couple of years ago, another specialist had told me I needed to dye my whole hair again before attempting ombré hair! (She was obviously trying to take advantage and wanted to charge me more). Well, if you decide to make the right decision and see Kathy, you’ll know for a fact that she’ll give you great advice and you’ll get every penny worth.
Believe me, you’ll love her. I trusted her to chop off 21 inches of my hair!

My entire life I’ve been looking for «the one» that one hair dresser who I would feel comfortable with and would make me look and feel well fabulous. Joseph has become that guy. I will probably never go to anybody else to do my hair! I came in looking to cut off my dead ends while keeping length and still maintaining the laid back maintenance of long hair with some subtle layers and he gave it to me. While taking into consideration the fact that I would be using clip in extensions for an upcoming event. He put in layers so that it would still be able to cover any clip ons I might be using.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Go here! And the space is beautiful. Felt completely comfortable.

I’m getting married in 6 weeks and decided to go to Kathy for my wedding haircut. Man, was i impressed! After moving from Hong Kong 6 years ago, I finally found someone I can trust. She really knows her stuff and is a lot of fun! She not only gave me a haircut I LOVE, she also taught me how to style my hair which is equally as important to me. What’s the point of having awesome hair when you walk out of the salon and have no idea how to recreate it after you wash your hair! Kathy is rad and I highly recommend her!
So excited to go back and dye my hair purple after the wedding!

Joseph is the best!
When people find out that I drive from San Clemente to Los Angeles just to get my hair done they always give the same response, «Why». The answer is simple; Joseph is the absolute best and I will not trust anyone else to work on my hair. I have been going to Joseph for over 13 years. My color & highlights are beautiful. The keratin treatment is a prayer answered. The cut is always perfect and easy to work with. And, Joseph does make-​up. He is an artist.

Oh. Wow! Love Joseph. It’s true. I met him at the bar, but that is immaterial. Such a gorgeous, well designed space. First appointment and the color and cut consultation and results were absolutely fantastic. Also? Wine. Also? A blind, sixteen year old Dachshund, who is obviously well loved.
Further, the view is sublime and the music perfectly curated. On a final note, these people are fun, fun, fun!

I have hair that is, depending on the section:

— Wavy
— Ringlet curls.
Until Summer started cutting and shaping my hair, every other stylist made my head look like a mushroom. She makes my hair look glamorous, even after I’ve washed all the styling and product out. Nice to look good on a daily basis rather than just once a month.

Ive always been picky about salons and since im traveling i had to pick one in LA that would be good for me .
I made appointment for trim and glaze
Kathy was so welcoming and so amazing, we talked all the way thru it, she asked me what exactly i wanted and did a small trim plus grey glaze since i had alot of yellow color in my blond .
Place was empty but nice
Décor is awesome i felt for a second im in new york loft !
