Established in 2006.

Mr. Burns established The Law Offices of Nigel Burns after nearly a decade of experience and success as a trial attorney.

In February 2011, Associate Attorney Matias Flores joined the firm. Mr. Flores is a graduate of Loyola Law School, and has been a member of the California Bar since February 2011. During law school, Mr. Flores volunteered at Bet Tzedek where he litigated employment issues for low income clients. He was also a member of the Juvenile Justice Clinic, which operated like a law firm representing minors facing criminal charges in Juvenile Court. Mr. Flores now works with Mr. Burns on family law and criminal law cases.

In September 2011, Associate Attorney Erin Huang joined the firm. Ms. Huang graduated from Loyola Law School in May 2010 and was admitted to the California Bar in December 2010. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Huang practiced at a firm in Costa Mesa, where she gained valuable experience in civil and business litigation, and corporate law.

Mr. Burns is originally from Ireland where he obtained the first of his two law degrees. Mr. Burns received his second law degree in the United States from Loyola Law School.

Mr. Burns has tried many cases and has built a reputation as a fierce litigator; one who is respected in his legal community. He has obtained many significant verdicts including a verdict of $ 1.4 million dollars in a medical malpractice action against the County of Los Angeles. Mr. Burns was also co-​counsel on a personal injury case, which resulted in the largest verdict in Southern California involving the loss of a spleen. To date, Mr. Burns has secured in excess of $ 25 million collectively for his clients through verdicts and settlements.

In addition to the impressive verdicts and settlements, Mr. Burns has developed a strong reputation for representing clients in family, elder, probate and criminal law cases.

In November of 2014, Nigel was awarded the Top Gun Trial Lawyer of the Year award by OCTLA.

This Law Firm was such a great find on Unilocal that I had to write one myself! After checking them out and hiring them on to handle my case… I’m sure glad I did! With a sincere heart, Farzard (Farz) and Nigel did a great job helping me out with selling my house and getting things situated after an ugly divorce. My situation was a little tricky as my 15yr relationship dissolved and needed help figuring things out. For me it was overwhelming, but to them it was «Hakuna Matata» once they took it over. Long story short… I appreciated the honesty and man to man talks we had. Their advice and suggestions really played a role in having this end in a good manner. I agree with the other reviewers that they actually care and show compassion about the case/​situation and put themselves in your shoes to get a better understanding on everything going on. Great Guys, Great Law Firm to do business with! You really do feel at ease and secure with them. I’d recommend them without a doubt!

If you’re looking at Unilocal reviews of Law Offices near You, It’s probably because you’re facing a crisis of legal consequence and need a lawyer. In December 2015 a legal action against my husband and our s-​corp threatened the future of the business we built together — the center of our lives. However corny this sounds, the truth is that Nigel restored the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel when he accepted our case.
I’ll expand on why I agree with Unilocaler Mark N. who said is best when he wrote… «There is no need to shop around…»
Nigel is accessible — He returned my initial phone call within 20 minutes… on Saturday afternoon of a 3 day weekend. After agreeing to help, he immediately sent necessary documents to my inbox. By Sunday morning he officially represented our corporation in a (totally bogus) lawsuit. Each subsequent communication was equally efficient.
Nigel is Attentive — Nigel understood the suit which named my husband and our business after our initial 15 minute phone call. The lawyer advising my husband took 5 precious days to read the summons and advise that although we did have a defense we need another attorney to represent the business as an s-​corp and it would take 3 days for him to refer us. Basically, those 5 days cost the allowable response time we had to present the facts of our defense.
Nigel is Respectful — Who knew «respectful «and «lawyer» could be used symbiotically in the same sentence? Since I’m livin’ fast & loud in California, Nigel Burns Law Office isn’t the first attorney I’ve hired. I fully expected that he would speak to me with an air of annoyance which intends to convey that not only is my attorney the smartest guy in the room but I’m the dumbest gal in the room — wouldn’t that make anyone a little bit nervous? I prepared for an inferiority complex to add to my fear and uncertainty; instead, Nigel’s friendly, easy demeanor had a disarming and calming effect. He asked me several times before hanging up if I had any questions for him. Very Impressed.
Nigel is honest — Of course the retainer fee and associated court costs were discussed during our initial phone consult. Again I was surprised that instead of deferring to an assistant or secretary to talk money, Mr. Burns outright explained his retainer fee and how his fee might compare in the industry.
Nigel Burns is Ethical — Along the lines of honesty, I believe Nigel Burns delegated wherever possible, any tasks and communications relevant to representing our interests. This savaed us money in the end.
Nigel Burns is a Great Attorney — Our nightmare ended before it really started thanks to Nigel Burns, Diana Hamlin and the Law Offices of Nigel Burns.

I found myself in a situation that I could not handle on my own. I was lucky enough to be introduced to the Law Office of Nigel Burns. Everyone at the Office, including Mr. Burns made me feel welcome and that I was a top priority! The attorney assigned to my case was Mr. Seyfnia, or Farzad to me (I’m not a very formal person, and he was good with that). Farzad went so far above and beyond my expectations of customer service, and helping me that at times it was shocking. He answered every phone call, every email, and every question even if it was something that I should have known and if it was some horrible hour of the day. He even helped me through a few «mini meltdowns» and was always completely open and honest about the situation. It was a rough road, but my case is concluded and I am extremely happy. As a retired management official from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, I was looking for a firm that was personable, reasonable, agressive, and unafraid to tackle a complex case. The firm employs a cadre of several attorneys, lead by Nigel Burns, who worked together to ensure that my case was treated as if it was the most important case in the office. One of the attorney’s, Diana Hamlin, did an outstanding job in researching and preparing the case for litigation. Cannot say enough good things about this team! They worked with me fixing an error from another attorney that had happened years earlier. The whole thing was a mess and they worked very hard to get it done while not costing me an arm and a leg which is very rare for a law firm these days. I highly recommend hiring Nigel Burns and utilizing his professional legal team. Nigel makes an effort to return all calls and emails very quickly.
