Divorce was maybe the most difficult experience of my life, and my situation wasn’t even terribly complicated. I went with Stephen after speaking to a few lawyers — we had a good rapport and he established trustworthiness in our first consultation.
Stephen is a principled man and seemingly unflappable. He’s also warm and personable — I enjoyed working with him. I felt I had a highly capable professional as well as good friend in my corner. I hired Stephen to represent me when my ex made an attempt to move across the country with our daughter. He submitted a very mean and scary declaration with his Request for Order, making numerous accusations against me that challenged my parenting abilities. My ex is a bully, to be quite honest. I had a few phone consultations with other attorneys and Stephen is the only one who made me feel confident. I immediately got the impression that he would be able to handle the situation as well as anybody could. He helped me draft the kind of declaration that the family court wants to see: one that is looking out for the best interest of the child. Stephen had a very strong and professional demeanor in the court room, and within five minutes the judge had heard enough. Both requests denied, and my daughter stays in LA with me!

Not having dealtwith attorneys before, i felt concerned by how unprofessional and money hungry the divorce attorneys were. Stephen is an excellent attorney because of his professionalism, his honesty with pricing, and most importantly, the great results he got for me and my son. I was going through a really difficult situation and I had been obsessively researching different law firms and talking to countless attorneys. Trust me when I say I did my research. The only reason I was able to afford such excellent legal representation, given my current financial situation, is because Stephen’s rates are extremely reasonable since he is a young lawyer and it’s relatively early in his career. I’m sure in a few years his rates will go up, so I was really lucky to find him at this time. Also, he didn’t charge me for every single phone call and email, and his consultation was free. One lawyer that I considered hiring wouldn’t even speak to me until I paid a $ 200 fee up front.
Stephen was extremely professional at all times. Always great about being accessible, answering any questions thoroughly and in a timely manner. He always looked polished from head to toe, and carried himself really well, very confident, especially on the day of court. Which brings me to my final and most important point. On the day of the hearing, he got me excellent results which exceeded my expectations.
There were three parties in my case (myself, the county of Los Angeles, and the respondent). As the attorney for the county was walking me to the door so that they could all talk in private, even he made a remark about how I have an excellent attorney.
Stephen prepared all my documents carefully and thoroughly, and knew his stuff the day of the hearing. The other party’s lawyer had years of experience on him, yet Stephen was able to point out all these flaws in their case, and successfully negotiate a great deal for me. The other party certainly did not look happy. He negotiated aggressively on my behalf, all while being very polite and professional. I could tell that he really cared about the case, even though it’s not a high profile case. I have read some reviews about other attorneys that didn’t seem to care, and this was definitely not the case with Stephen. He put in so much effort, found hidden income (which other many other lawyers I spoke to told me was very hard to do) and pretty much got me everything that was within the limits of the law. I am so grateful for everything he did for me and my son, and hiring him to represent us made all the difference. I can’t thank you enough Stephen!

Very professional, kind, and patient. I found Mr. Stephen Chen on this website when I was looking for answers for my divorce questions. I was so confused and was worried about how I was going to afford a lawyer, but I called his office anyway. The assistant that answered was very nice and tried to help me with my questions before transmitting the message to Mr. Chen that I had called. Mr. Chen called me soon afterward and answered my questions, even though he was not in the office at that moment. He also invited me to email him if I had any further questions! I did the next day, and he answered back immediately.
I cannot thank him enough for giving me free answers and reassurance through this difficult process. I will be recommending him and if I ever need to actually hire a family lawyer, I will definitely be looking him up again.

Just got out of my free consultation with Mr. Chen. I paid 175 dollars for what I thought was a professional consultation in the past. Mr. Chen proves that money doesn’t always mean quality. Mr. Chen explained my case, identified the forms I’d need, looked up on the internet past cases I’d had and put me in the right direction. All time spent was quality time. When the 30-​minutes were running out, I offered to pay for another 30-​minutes because I was getting so much information I needed. Even after offering, he spent the time it took until I was confident in my next steps – then he didn’t charge me. What a contrast to what you hear about the normal lawyer. If you are looking for an attorney, you’d be crazy not to pick him. Also, being retired from the USAF, I’ve had my experience with bad marriages and lawyers.

Okay so I’m making this review based off of my experience with just speaking to Stephen over the phone Friday morning.
One night after doing some extensive search for a lawyer that wouldn’t cost me an arm and leg, I resorted to Unilocal and stumbled upon the ‘Law Office of Stephen Chen’ page. I must admit it wasnt my first or 2^nd choice but it was definitely my 3^rd firm choice. Earlier that day I had called the other 2 lawyers prior to calling Stephen to get some legal advice and none of them seem to be the perfect one. I never would have thought to look on Unilocal for a family lawyer. Most lawyers come off helpful at first but once you start talking $$$ their tone change. Not only was the guy who answered the phone helpful but so was Stephen. At first I was told that Stephen was busy all day but yet he took my call anyway. He took the time to speak with me over the phone about my case and not once did I feel pressured to hire him. He gave me alot of advice which not alot of lawyers would do so i was definitely impressed.
Fortunately, because of the advice he gave me, I didn’t need a lawyer at this time but if that time do come when I need one, Stephen would be the man. I never met him in person but just having to speak to him gave me assurance.

22 attorneys. Yes. I talked with 22 attorneys about my unexpected domestic violence restraining order. Stephen Chen was number 23. After five seconds I knew Stephen would be the attorney to represent me. The other 22 attorneys, I just didn’t get a good vibe. One attorney in Santa Monica just cared about me putting an initial deposit into his bank account before talking with me about my case. Not so with Stephen.

Stephen is very easy to get in touch with. Whenever I had a question or a doubt in my mind about our DV case I either emailed

I’m forty something and this is the first time I have stepped into a courtroom. I’m not one of those people that pretends to know the law because I read a lot or watch one of those TV crime dramas. I’m a private chef and knew I needed help from an attorney that knows the law to best help aid me in convincing the judge that I’m a good person and there is no need for any person to file a restraining order against me.
I hope you keep on reading because it only gets better. Before Stephen Chen and I walked into the courtroom he informed/​taught me the proper way to act in the courtroom and also how to act when we were to be heard by the judge. Man did I need Stephen help. From body language to who and what not to bring into a courtroom and what to wear and not to wear in a courtroom, Stephen let me know way in advance.

I could have just told all of you looking for a lawyer that Stephen Chen is a great lawyer and a really great guy. Stephen is both that, but he actually cares and listens. Cares and listens. And of course, knows what he is talking about.
