I’ve been going to Melissa since 2008! Melissa is a breath of fresh air, as is her haircut and color I always receive! She did my hair on a project once, and I kept her card. I always leave the salon thrilled and filled with joy over my hairstyle and color! Thank you Melissa. I always get compliments on my haircut and color! Melissa has been cutting my hair for years and I always walk away happy. She manages to cut it in a way that looks fantastic with very little effort. She also has done hair for weddings that I have been in and I was thrilled with how pretty it was. I would absolutely recommend her for whatever you need.

Missy is the only person who is ever allowed to cut my hair again! I’m so glad I found her. She did hair for my wedding and is my go-​to for cuts. Seriously, she knows how to cut bangs! Anyone with blunt bangs knows how much of a feat this is. SHE CAN CUT BANGS, PEOPLE!

Melissa is the real deal: a gifted stylist who uses quality products, affordable, kind, and has a real sense of style.
I initially found Melissa via Unilocal and let me tell you all these 5 star reviews don’t lie: she’s that good. Most of all, she really cares about running a good business and giving you great service.
First off, Melissa has a cool spot at the Beauty Studio and most of the time your appointment is private. So not only do you get her full attention, but it’s a relaxing, beautiful atmosphere with high ceilings and retro furniture.
Melissa always uses quality products and is happy to tell you exactly what she’s using on your hair. She uses Redken and CHI products mainly, no mystery bleach or cheap stuff here. She has organic and all natural stuff, too.
She never pushes you to buy products like some salons do. She’ll make suggestions if you ask, but it’s so refreshing not to be pushed to buy products at large salon mark-​ups. She recommends you buy things at the local Sally Beauty Supply — which is about as affordable as you could possibly get them. She’s made my hair way healthier by advising me to stop brushing it with a paddle brush while wet, not by suggesting I buy $ 100 in deep conditioner and serums like my previous hair dressers.
I go to Melissa for blonde highlights and a basic long, layered cut. Melissa is an expert hair colorist. She’s always able to give me –exactly– the color I’m looking for and she’s happy to adjust/​fix my hair if I change my mind or the color doesn’t come out exactly as I expect. She’s a perfectionist and does an amazing job. I have very dark brown hair and she lifts me up to a natural-​looking, honey blonde.
I have never seen so many foils used for highlights in my life. She’s a master. She must put several hundred foils on my head for a partial highlight, using at most 20 strands of hair in each. The result is gorgeous and for the first time in my life my dark-​brown to blonde hair feels healthy! I get compliments all the time for my color and many people believe it’s natural.
Melissa is a top quality hair stylist/​colorist, the best I’ve ever been to, and yet she charges the least I’ve ever paid to get my hair done. She’s very affordable for the quality of service you’re getting. It’s a great deal. Yes, she costs more than SuperCuts, but the quality is 100 times better.
The best thing about Melissa is that despite being a stylist in LA, she’s not snooty at all. She’s kind, sweet, and talking to her is easy. She always remembers customers. She has an amazing sense of personal style and taste that I totally admire.
Vintage and Punk:
If you didn’t already know, she is a stellar vintage hair stylist whose been hired on tons of vintage photoshoots. But, she can also do modern punk hair cuts too.
Weddings:
Melissa does wedding hair and makeup styling and she goes above and beyond in effort. She was the very first person to arrive at my wedding venue on the day — before my expensive wedding planner and her two assistants. She deftly dealt with my bridezilla rampage and my in-​laws fussy craziness. She even assisted on the pictures, carrying our wedding props and my wildly impractical cathedral-​length veil. She helped me craft the hair I wanted on my wedding day, custom dying extensions to match my hair color. She even helped me pick the extensions out. And she happily redid my hair when I fussed over the part. I cannot imagine better service. She was the one vendor I knew I could trust and she more than came through in the clutch. Thank you forever, Melissa.
She’s definitely one of the nicest, most genuine, and hardworking entrepreneur’s I’ve ever known. I’m so lucky I found her. I know this all sounds too good to be true, but give Melissa a try and I’m sure you’ll love her too. She’s an expert at giving people the hair they want, in the most healthy way possible, for a good price.

When my friend googled, «best colorist in LA» Missy Firestone’s name was among the top 3 hits. I met Missy once and love what she did!
And so for the last 3 years even though I live ALL the way on the Westside, I travel ALL the way to Silverlake to give my head over to the best cut/​color stylist in the land! 3 years ago I started growing my hair from really short, to below my shoulders and Missy kept it looking fabulous through all the awkward growth periods. She’s wonderful and fun and her prices are absolutely reasonable.

I was in the Los Angeles area for a wedding and wanted to have my hair cut and styled for the special occasion. I met Melissa through the vintage scene and already knew she had an eye for the style I was interested in. My hair is coarse, wavy and incredibly thick. She handled my noggin like the professional that she is gave me exactly what I was hoping for! I highly recommend her and definitely have plans to make future appointments with her when I am back in the area.

I never had a regular hairdresser till I started seeing Melissa 4 years ago, and believe me it is not from lack of doing every conceivable thing to my hair. I cannot say enough great things about her. I am a creature of constant change when it comes to my hair color and Melissa has been the best at working with me to create some magical colors. She is also very knowledgeable at letting me know what is realistic working with me in a completely judgment free zone (that is a huge thing for me, hair should be fun and judgment free). Her space is clean and adorable. I love the super easy on-​line booking option. I can 100% recommend Missy for color, cuts, and styling. I have always been satisfied and happy every time I’ve left an appointment.

Melissa is an amazing stylist and an amazing person. She has cut/​colored my hair for two years and has always surpassed my expectations. Her vintage hairstyles are nothing short of amazing. She did my and my bridesmaids hair for my wedding and it was perfect.

Missy has been my colorist for years. In the beginning it was just a few foils to brighten things up a bit. These day after children there is so much more to do. When the grey started coming I was devastated. Missy is able to keep it looking like it used to in such a natural way. I have seen many of her clients and they vary in age and come from all walks of life. She is very well versed in working with a variety genres in women’s hairstyles, colors, and make-​up artistry even if her forte is in the vintage category. Her professionalism is outstanding and she goes above and beyond for her clients. Love love love this woman!

I have been going to Melissa for years! She is so creative and talented! No matter what you want she will listen to you and make sure you walk out of her shop feeling and looking like a million bucks! She’s fast and insanely accurate in her cuts, colors and styling. One thing I really love is that she has remained affordable, even after becoming a sought after artist. This lady is down to earth and connects with her customers. I will not go to anyone else and would recommend her to anybody.

After years of being done in a Salon with a stylist who juggles 3 people at once, getting too busy to even do my color and having her assistant do it, I searched high a low for someone with old school mentality of giving her client one on one attention. Melissa is so professional and will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with her services. I ALWAYS get compliments on my color. She turned me into a white blonde bombshell when no other stylist wanted to try. I completely trust her and would bet my entire vintage wardrobe that you will be happy with her!!!
