SPOT!

Be warned: if you’re a regular person who wants to give a dog a loving home this is not the place for you. My experience was completely awful here. Went in to see this adorable puppy. The dog was currently being pet by a familiar celebrity face who wanted to adopt him. I was able to hold and bond with him while I was talking to one of the owners. Afterwards, I gave the puppy back and went and filled out an application. The owner told me that they were trying to place him that day because their store was under construction and they needed to get all the dogs out. I was told the owner’s partner was very fond of this particular puppy and the celebrity wanted to transport this dog, the next day, to New York where she lives. I then proceeded to fill out an application and keenly listen in to what the celebrity was saying to the owner. Statements such as: «Oh no, if I couldn’t take car of him my friend here (who I am guessing was her assist) would take care of him.» They then proceed to talk about how he’d get his own Instagram page and how she’d tweet about him and that they’d tweet about the store, etc. etc.
They then leave and I proceed to thank the owner and said I could come back with my partner at 5pm to meet him and that unlike the celebrity who was clearly too focused on just getting a dog for social media likes would actually care and love for him. I go home with a pretty good feeling to only get a voicemail around 4:30 that same day that the owner’s «partner» had already approved the dog for a home without telling her and that she was sorry.
I called back and asked if this said celebrity got the dog and she proceeded to state that it was an earlier application that no one knew the owner’s partner had approved and that they were sorry. Although I was sad, I then later that night went onto social media because something didn’t look right; guess who got the dog: the celebrity that turned in her application 1-​minute before mine and not some «previous» application that no one saw but the owner’s partner.
It’s pretty upsetting that these «dog rescues» will give a puppy away to a celebrity that posts more pictures of herself FaceTiming with her dog (umm shouldn’t you be, you know, actually spending time with you dog) rather than people that actually want to give them loving home and not utilize them so social media gratification.
I DO NOT know about the «$ 500.00» fee, they did not spay/​neuter him either and we had to pay the $ 250.00, and there were also other misc. expenses. I’m concerned they might also be working with unlicensed breeders as none of this sit right anymore.
Avoid this place and go to your local shelter and save a dog’s life. I’m done with these organizations that string people along and post «WE NEED FOSTERS» and make it seem so immediate and then the moment a celebrity walks in the door (also, I mentioned to the owner that the woman in front of me was a celebrity and she knew this too but couldn’t «place» her) us regular people are treated like trash.
Beware this place. Go to a shelter instead! They actually need to get dogs into loving homes.

The staff at Spot! and my experience at Spot! was top notch! I recently rescued a dog from Spot! and the entire experience was wonderful and I am beyond happy to have a new «family member». Since rescuing, I have reached out to the staff of Spot! and asked a few questions and they have been beyond helpful. Further, I have boarded my pup when I went on vacation and even had my pup go for daycare when I had a long day at work and the experience was absolutely 5 stars (not to mention, my dog came home happy and exhausted from running around and playing all day)! I would highly recommend (and have already recommended) this «spot» for anyone looking to rescue, board, daycare and go to for pet supplies.

Calling this place a rescue is quite the stretch — it’s a pet store with the front of an animal rescue. I came here and fell in love with a puppy, then I nearly dropped to the floor when they told me that the mandatory «donation/​adoption fee» is $ 500. $ 500? $ 500?! FIVE HUNDRED?! Is that the amount for the whole eight puppy litter or just one pup?! When I asked why it was so expensive, I was informed that it was to cover all the fees that come with caring for the dogs. Umm, first of all, your inventory is FREE, you rescue a lot of these dogs from abandoned locations or they are surrendered by their owners. I understand that you have to cover your overhead, but aren’t a lot of your employees volunteers? So, a large portion of that must go to your rent; if so, then why not consider finding a cheaper location, like one that isn’t across the street from the Beverly Center??? Okay, fine, you also cover food, vet visits, and whatever else isn’t covered by the additional donations/​discounts you receive. However, I volunteer at a dog rescue and the adoption fee is $ 145, and everything (chip, spay/​neuter, vaccinations) is covered. Also, the $ 145 covers dogs of all ages, we do not ask for more money for puppies, for whatever reason you guys charge a higher amount (actually more than double) for your puppies than your adult dogs. Why are your adult dogs so much cheaper? Is it because you know people are more willing to pay a higher amount for younger dogs?
My whole point to this is that if you didn’t charge so much for these beautiful animals they would probably find forever homes a lot sooner. I would have adopted the dog I fell in love with for $ 200, but definitely couldn’t do it for $ 500.
Maybe you should reconsider your business strategy and ask yourselves, «Are we a dog rescue trying to make a difference in these animals lives or a pet shop trying to hide our greediness with a good cause?»

Went in to buy some collars for our dogs… no hello… no checking to see if we needed anything… and when I ask the staff of a dog was friendly/​permission if I could pet it, I got a «curt that one is not for sale»…I was just asking to makes friend with the dog. then I dared asked about some puppies behind the counter-​and I got a glare… Unfriendly, unhelpful downright unpleasant staff… happy to spent our money elsewhere

I want to thank everyone at Spot for connecting me with Jiggy, a Pomeranian-​Chihuahua mix that is the love of my life! Really, you have made such a difference. My daughters and I stopped in to look at puppies, never intending to find one– then I saw the litter of pups you had up for adoption, and fell in love. I know you were reluctant to adopt her out to me since we were just in town for the week from Florida, and to make matters worse, we were heading to Coachella for the weekend. Even so, you helped me get her shots and airplane travel ready, and then agreed to keep her over the weekend while we were at Coachella. You knew we would have a tight schedule to make the coast to coast flight Monday morning, but you had her ready to go, and off we flew! She has been perfect! Thank you to everyone who made this happen.

Everyone be AWARE of this place. I recently adopted Potter last Sunday, but i was lied about his age. On the website, he is 2ys old. In the store with the pictures of the available dogs, he is 4yrs old. And yesterday, while at Healthy Spot, i found out from his papers that he’s 6yrs old. I still havent gotten a call back from the owners, but they’ll decieve consumers to get their money. They also make you buy their colors, leash, etc. at way above normal retail price. And btw, $ 500 adoption donation, give the dog a real haircut and wash! Also the employees are okay, buy 90% of their answer is «will let thr owners know about your issur». A lesson learned on my end and I should’ve taken the all of the bad reviews into consideration. Im glad Potter is in a better place though. Ill be reporting them to consumer affairs for false advertisement.

This place is not a rescue! It is a pet store that calls themselves a rescue. My husband and I went in two days in a row looking at a dog that was up for adoption. When asking questions, I was given short answers with no information. I was the only person in the store and the woman working could care less.
The adoption fee is 500! And it does not include spay/​neuter surgery, or the last round of shots! This is a total scam! The point of being a rescue is to save dogs as well as preventing overpopulation by fixing the animals that are going to homes. The website claims its a 501c non profit. There is no way it is a non profit if the adoption fees do not include spay/​neuter surgery.
If you are looking to adopt dogs in LA please go to a different place. Spot does not deserve to use the word «rescue» with anything they do.

Makes me super sad that a place like this calls themselves an «adoption center».
The dog I was looking at was a whopping $ 500 and didn’t even have her rabies shot. The best part– she wasn’t spayed. And they would not cover the spaying either. They wanted to sell me this dog for $ 500 and id have to pay another $ 175 myself to get her fixed.
Why would anyone want to adopt a dog who isn’t spayed for so much money? At that rate you could get a neutered dog from a breeder. Defeats the purpose of adoption.
I adopted my cat for $ 75 spayed with all her shots. Absolutely no reason why an adoption center should cost so much. You’re a puppy store.

Updating my review for the fact that we found out the dog we adopted wasn’t microchipped, so we got her microchipped ourselves and sent an email asking if a reimbursement was possible since Spot says all dogs are microchipped before adoption, but only got one email asking the dogs name and age when she was with Spot. Never heard back from them since.

This is a review regarding their adoption services! I originally went to their place just to check out what dogs they had. I fell in love pretty quickly with my little guy, Linus. I will say, they have a pretty high adoption fee :/​and I literally didn’t talk to the owner once– she never really cared to chat with me. BUT, the 2 ladies helping me were awesome! They were really sweet and helped me pick out the food he needed, and I even brought in my own leash and harness that they approved. Never once did they force me to buy all their products or make me sign something saying I’d always buy their products. Maybe old Unilocal reviews made them change their ways? Anyway, I’d go back forsure!

I adopted my dog from Spot! a couple of months ago. Five of my friends also adopted from Spot! They rescue dogs from kill shelters and find them wonderful homes. The staff and owners devote their lives saving animals. I usually return with my pup to pay them visits because he absolutely loves the staff and remembers them because they raised him for 9 weeks. My experience with them has been nothing but pleasant. Hope this helps!

This place is a dump. Unprofessional owner and uneducated rude front desk. Puppy mill.
Beware! THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN! Those dogs need rescue from SPOT! They spray them with water bottles all day to try and keep them in line. Too many dogs in one small area. Strong smell unclean in back area where dogs are kept. The girl with the lip piercing and short dark hair at the front desk is rude and has no clue other then covering up for the owner. To top it off, owner asks 500 dollars for adoption. All the negative comments you will read below are true.

Horrible customer service – only the owner, who is never there, can make a decision. I bought my dog a collar. It was the wrong size. I took it back to exchange for a larger size. Only the absentee owner could do that! Finally, it was determined that the right size couldn’t be obtained and it was agreed a credit would be issued to my credit card. I waited over two months for the credit. It never showed up. No follow through on promises. I would avoid Spot at all costs.

Just realized I only left a ‘tip’ not a full review for this awful, awful place.
Came in to pick something up and as I walked in an unrestrained dog charged at me, bared its teeth, growled and bit my leg. There were two staff members who came running behind the dog and caught it, but they were too busy arguing with each other to even acknowledge that this vicious dog just bit my leg. I had on jeans, so I thought I was OK (but it hurt), only to find later that the dog had broken my skin and I was bleeding. I still have a scar from it, and this was more than a year ago.
Things like this should NOT happen, and their response to the whole thing was atrocious — they tried to blame ME for being bit — stating that the dog was a rescue and scared of new people and that I should have run away. Try making sure all your aggressive dogs are restrained instead.
Avoid this place! AWFUL!

They are the best… The groomer is really nice and good at grooming. My dog literally didn’t wanna leave him !!!

The Spot is a fantastic place to take your dog. Budapest has been attending play time
for over three months & jumps over me in the driver seat to get to his canine pals. He
arrives happy & leaves fulfilled, puppy has been worked out! All the employees know him & love him. I am very confident leaving out furry son with them. Moreover, the grooming is terrific.

The owner of Spot should be ashamed of herself. She is literally flipping rescue dogs for profit and keeping them from good homes unless it benefits her financially!
Initially, I loved the concept of Spot rescuing dogs from dingy shelters — and taking them in until they find better homes. But I would later learn, there’s a catch.
After my dog of 13 years passed away, I decided it was time to adopt a new one and this seemed like a great place. I live in Orange County but my son lives near Spot in LA.
I made the 2+ hour drive, fell in love with one of their dogs, filled out a long application and was told the owner would contact me to discuss it. She was at the store while I was there, but refused to meet me. I told the employee about my situation of living so far away — and asked if we could expedite the process but they essentially blew me off.
What was more outrageous, is that the owner was there while I was in the store, but wouldn’t make eye contact and I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE STORE! I even purchased a toy for my son’s dog while I was there! I would ask a question to her employees — they would walk behind the counter to ask her the question while she appeared to «look busy» doing paperwork… then they would come back and give me her answer. She was BEYOND RUDE!!!
I called Spot everyday after filling out the application to check on the status and was given the run around every time. That’s if they bothered to pick up the phone. The owner was never «available.» and never called to follow up as I was promised she would.
As other reviewers have stated, the adoption application asks where applicants will be buying their new dog’s food, vet services, toys, daycare, boarding, etc. If you don’t fill out «Spot» for every answer — forget about it. I would later learn, you must promise to use Spot for anything and everything in your dog’s life or you have zero chance of them approving your application. Even if it’s evident you would give the dog a wonderful home! Oh, and did I mention the $ 600 adoption fee? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
If I lived closer, I would have been happy to use their services (that’s before I knew how awful they were!) — but this poor dog was denied a great home — where she would have been spoiled beyond belief! — simply because I didn’t promise to spend all of my money at Spot for the rest of my new dog’s life.
I should mention, I later adopted a beautiful dog from somewhere else and we’re both very happy!

The grooming salon staff at this place are consistently rude with poor customer service. I have personally witnessed unkind acts and attitudes toward the pets and owners they serve. I will not return to this location and trust them with grooming my dogs.
600 dollars to RESCUE a dog is unbelievable!

Lizzie (SpOt’s owner) is apparently so busy that her staff screens her calls. If SpOt was a large corporation I would understand, but SpOt is a small neighborhood shop dependent on local business yet she feels above coming to the phone without first knowing who it is. As a customer, I am offended by this «I’m so important attitude». So, after two (2) years of fighting to get through without giving my name I am going elsewhere. A business like SpOt should be happy that people are calling, yet Lizzie is apparently too busy. I have even walked into the store without being greeted, while Lizzie is on her laptop not even looking up to greet me.
My sole regret is that Jennifer, the groomer, if fabulous, and is always happy to see customers and couldn’t be more loving to the pets she grooms. Lizzie’s Mom is also a gem, yet she isn’t there much of the time.
I’m taking my business to Healthy Spot on Santa Monica Blvd. The owner and employees there a friendly and happy to see you.

Awful. Went in a few days ago to adopt a puppy + was basically told that unless I bought my supply, grooming + vet needs to them, they would not allow me to adopt. The groomer I use currently is amazing and I have used him for my last two dogs. Why would I not use him for a new puppy if he has been excellent to my other animals? their adoption form asks what supplies you will need for your new dog + will you buy them from Spot! The more you are willing to spend, the more likely you are to get a dog. I have NEVER seen that on an adoption form.
What kind of rescue service puts their financial gain above the wellbeing of the animals? It’s a disgrace. Adopt from Dogs Without Borders. At least you’ll be really saving lives with a registered non profit organization + not lining a heartless greedy woman’s pockets.
