Source Film Studio

Poor service. Poor facilities. Not a professional setting.

I’ve been in this biz for 16 years and the single easiest stage to work on is Source. Easy load in, tons of gear which shows up in seconds. When the producer tells me we’re shooting at source, always a sigh of relief.
There’s lowerable pipes for easy rigging, and the G and E room is about 20 feet from both stages. Also, Juan the stage manager is insanely helpful.
Btw, I’m a commercial key grip.

I really enjoy working at Source Film Studios. Bobby is a standup guy. He runs a great stage at a fair price. I’ve produced well over a dozen shoots there in what I would believe to be the last 5 years. Source is my first call when I need a green screen stage with a decent footprint. I can also say that the grip and lighting equipment is in good shape. I’ve never had a crew complain that their gear was substandard. I highly recommend Source for your green screen sound stage needs.

Source is my favorite stage in LA and always my first call for the right sized job. I’ve known Bobby since ’97 when I took one of my first producing jobs to his location on La Brea and he has always been an honest, upstanding person to deal with. I’m proud to have been able to show the stages to many production teams through the years who continue to use the them regularly.

A genuine gem. These guys CONSISTENTLY go above and beyond, and are always our first call for our lighting and grip needs. Their pricing is extremely competitive, and more importantly, the level of service is top-​notch. Highly, highly recommended.

I first found out about source from a producer friend– They have a rep as a green screen stage with good gear. Now, its 5 years later, and I do about 95% of my greenscreen shoots there. They have good gear, the stages are immaculate, they have motorized rigging points for hanging the back lights, they have a b stage. Bobby always sticks to his quotes– we dont get any hidden costs with the stage, which I love.

Quite simply my favorite stage to call. Reasons?
1. Bobby is so f’ing cool why make another call. He just does what he can to give you the best service in town and makes it look way too easy. No funny weirdness later, just an honest quote right up front.
2. The stages look brand new and untouched. They keep them in perfect condition and you’ll feel like you’re on first.
3. The way it is set up is so crew friendly it’s ridiculous. Easy load in and load out, easy rigging, one touch pre-​light etc ad infinitum.
4. Centrally located. You are not far from anything you might need.
5. Enough gear on hand to do what you need. It’s all in nice condition and is well maintained. I’ve needed anything other than a roll of seamless and a breezy from outside.
It’s just a really nice experience to shoot here. Shooting is hard enough without having a rough place to work and The Source Studio makes your day comfortable, professional, and smooth. It’s family.

This is a tiny little 2 stage studio hidden in the folds of Hollywood. This place is AMAZING for so many reasons. When you rent a stage here you get full on site access to their equipment and their ever-​so-​helpful techie Juan who will do EVERYTHING for you but make you lunch.
They have everything you need right here in one little space. They have scissor lifts for using the lighting grid, ample lighting equipment, c-​stands, wedges, sand bags, grip clips, flags, bounce/​reflector boards, layout boards, chairs, ladders, tables and so much more. Literally everything you need is right here.
Both stages have awesome green screens. We actually shot the next Boxing Promo for Showtime here. There are plenty of extra rooms upstairs for lounging also known as green rooms or for hair, makeup and wardrobe. They have a fully functional kitchen and plenty of restrooms. They also have a room already setup for lunch (tables and chairs set up). This studio is super clean and amazingly organized.
The only downside to this studio is the parking situation. They only have about enough room to fit about 15 cars give or take a few. It would not be so bad if there wasn’t street cleaning on 2 out of the 7 days of the week. Other than parking being an issue this studio definitely gets two thumbs up!!! Use this space!!! It’s awesome.
