Silverlake Community Church

My wife and I really enjoyed our last church, but it was 25 miles away, and we had a new baby, and this one was just down the street from us, so we decided to check it out. The pastor is very friendly but real and compassionate. I was able to connect with him right away. His messages are straight out of the bible, but they are presented in a way that are able to be received by everyone listening to them. I talked to him once, and he told me (not quoting him cuz I don’t remember exactly) that the old structure of church was not working, and we have to adapt to the changing times. It’s a ‘meet people right where they are’ kinda place, and they have tons of outreach too. There are about ten or so organizations that use the church on a regular basis for meetings and gatherings. Some Christian, some not. I’ve helped out with the Food Pantry giveaways a couple of times. They don’t push any agenda there, we just give out food, and if the subject of church and faith comes up, then great. But if not, we just hand out food, diapers, and smiles. My family are I are very much enjoying our time here, and plan to stay as long as we can. The baby loves rocking out to the songs during the service too!

Great small congregation, that works for God and the surrounding community.
Diverse group of all ages, gender and race, looking to worship and serve any
who are in need and welcome creativity and ideas to minister to all. I am pretty new here coming from a large church as I moved into this area and realized the people here are mostly from
somewhere else as jobs brought us to la. The community around has people moving in and out frequently and the church group is subject to change as far as people go, do to careers changing, but the services remain the same as Silverlakes goal is to serve the community though the Lord and the congregation
to minister and share the relationship of God in Jesus Christ where ever they may go.

We’ve been attending Silverlake for 3 years now and we’re very happy here. Here are a few of the things we like:
The church is very diverse in age and background.
Pastor Randy preaches the Truth right down the middle and straight from the Bible; but in such a way that doesn’t insult you or come across as condescending. Rather you sense that the message may be opening some mental and spiritual doors for God to reach you.
The Pastor offers valuable perspective from having lived and served in Central America and Africa. I wouldn’t do this justice by trying to give you an example, you should just come and see for yourself. The perspectives he can offer will really open your mind.
The worship team makes up for any lack of musical polish with a beautiful spirit and an honest and genuine treatment of the music.
People are very friendly and welcoming to newcomers.
The church is very active in the Silverlake community. I’m hoping the 12 step program for recovering hipsters gets off the ground as these are some of the most needy and overlooked in our society — OK that was a joke — not that it’s a bad idea, but the rest was serious. We’re very happy to have found this church.

What can I say about this place? Its more than a building. Its the people here that make it a church and make it a home for my soul! Everyone is warm, creative, kind, caring, and genuine! The building is a blend of nastalgic remnants of the visuals I grew up seeing in church: stain glass, bell steeple, pews. BUT I love that the church is alive with outside gatherings. Its very much a Silverlake community center. I love this place!

Thankful to call Silverlake Church my home! I’ve been to many churches over the years. Ultimately, it’s not about perfect programs and perfect people. In fact, you will never find that. At Silverlake, I’ve experienced a fresh picture of the kingdom of God as young and old worship together, as I’ve been encouraged and challenged by Scripture, and have had the ability to get involved with their grassroots style of sparking new ideas and helping make them happen. I love that this church values the call to live justly and to love mercy. We are a community from all different backgrounds and are willing to be transformed by Jesus as we gather around Christ together. Come visit us for the first time or to reconnect with God and others. We’d love to meet you!

Myself, I don’t particularly care for that old «religious» stained glass and pew sorta thing… But, i must admit that for some reason i found myself enjoying it and feeling pur-​ty good at this little tight knit church. Guess I needed that even if for the moment. I wouldn’t mind visiting again on occasion taking a break from my own church which is way big and overwhelming at times. I do wish the fellowship here were a little more warmer towards strangers like myself but i did find one or two who were friendly enough and thats all i need to feel some love… I will be stopping by again soon! As for the sermon? cookie cutter textbook style but its still effective… cus its God’s word when it all comes down to it regardless of presentation and he really is pretty decent. Thats just my take ok. I would still go again, no problem!

I attended this church because of the review above, and I completely agree. I’ve been looking for a church for over a year. The website impressed me because of the art and values of the church – Jesus, spirituality, justice, generosity. The music (so tired of the same-​o, same-​o) is excellent – great young singer, songs that actually ask questions. The sermon was everything I needed to hear – challenging, engaging, and the pastor asked us to verbally respond. It is an interesting and smart community of people.

My second visit to this church just won my heart! Their worship team is awesome!!! My husband and I were discussing why we liked it so much… the worship leader, he’s got STYLE. It doesn’t sound like the textbook praise band. The congregation is still small, but I can see it growing big. Pastor Randy’s sermons are mind and spirit capturing. Sunday school is small, but my son seems to like the intimacy of it. It’s a change from mega churches like Horizon and Calvary Chapel we use to attend. And I love it.
