I am really sad that Oren shut down. It was the ktown’s best shabu restaurant. So with heavy heart, I walked over to Shabu Hyang across the street and holy smokes, this place is a world of its own! Their Wilshire«Front» is actually the back. The Entrance is on 6th street and this restaurant is huge! It’s technically korean fusion vietnamese shabu. Whatever you call it, it’s delicious! Portion is little less than other shabu places but quality and service is excellent. I love the«make your own» wraps with beautiful fresh and healthy garnish. The porridge at the end is really delicious! Happy to find a new shabu joint!

I was feeling under the weather and needed a pick me up that would soothe my throat so this was my go-to! Went for the lunch menu and got the spring rolls with the beef shabu. This place does porridge and noodles at the end which are fantastic!!! I also love making the spring rolls because it’s a different take on shabu shabu. The quality of meat is great and the interior is super spacious and clean!

Not bad…6 of us ate for about $ 120. We ordered meat and seafood shabu with spring rolls. The Korean spicy pork was deliciously marinated and there was tons of veggies(cilantro, pickled cucumber, carrots, cabbage, radish, etc).plus pineapple! The 3 dipping sauces were very unusual from other shabu places. But very good! One of them was a watered down peanut sauce though. The hot pot had two broths(one spicy and one mild). The seafood was really fresh as well. In the end, they give you complimentary rice noodles for your broth and rice to make porridge(jook). It was so good! Servers were pretty nice as well, except this one older lady. Who was a bit rude. Anyways, I never had Korean style shabu and I was skeptical… but now I trust my people to make good shabu! I’ve had Taiwanese, Mongolian and traditional Japanese… and it’s probably one of my faves. I would definitely come back again!

Was looking for some good Shabu so we checked Unilocal and decided to try this place out. First of all parking is located in a parking lot connected to the building through the back. It’s in the same plaza as kids land. The food was average: there are choices between combo with spring rolls and seafood or meat. Also you can get without. The food wasn’t bad though but I am giving three stars because of the lack of service there. There was only four of us in the restaurant and we had to constantly remind them of water. Eventually they finally gave us a pitcher but they should’ve done that from the beginning. They never checked up to see if we needed anything which was annoying. Felt like they were a bit lazy and didn’t want to be there. Food was okay though so if you don’t mind bad service check it out lol

Minus one star because of the forgetfulness of one of the waitresses. We ordered 1 seafood and beef combo, which also came with a plate of veggies(and 2 halves of a fish ball) and assorted mushrooms, 1 kobe beef combo, which came only with veggies, and 1 side of just veggies. You can choose the following as your broth flavor: house special, spicy, or half and half. Spicy broth is not spicy enough. You can hardly taste the spice. However, when mixed with the beef, it enhanced the meat’s flavor. The amount of meat you get for the price is not enough. Even with 2 meat plates, it wasn’t enough to completely fill us up. That is both good and bad. We felt like we ate a lot, so we didn’t want to order more, but our stomachs told us we should order more because it was mainly water/soup. There is a difference in the flavor and tenderness of the kobe beef vs the prime. I suggest getting the kobe beef if you’re not counting pennies. They made porridge at the end with the leftover broth and added egg sauce. There is a parking lot on the side, next to the entrance for the CGV parking lot. The restaurant gives you a ticket that is validated to «pay» the ticket machine. I will be coming back again until the«all you can eat» shabu place opens down the street. This place is more 3.5 stars than 4.

I have to update my review. One bad waitress ruined it for everyone. I brought coworkers here tonight because they were interested in Koreatown and their take on shabu. I was the only Korean speaker for the group so I took the liberty to order on behalf of them. The waitress was super unfriendly and rolled her eyes at every request we had. Literally sighs and rolls her eyes after running out of patience with us. Everyone was new to the concept of shabu so it would have been more pleasant if she could have been more explained the menu to us or rather send an english speaking waiter/waitress. We asked her to split the check and again her eyes rolled as she snarled while scoffing. Im sorry it was apparently sooo absurd to have the check split. She was super nice as we left though, maybe she was happy to get rid of us since not all of us were Korean? I was really disappointed tonight and a little embarrassed at the rude demeanor of her just as a Korean.

I have dined here twice so far — the first time was great, but the second visit was so-so. During the second visit, I noticed that the portion of beef had been significantly reduced — I know this because the amount they gave for TWO people(shown in earlier photo I took below) was awfully similar to what we have received when we went in as a group of THREE the second time around. It seems that they were also getting slightly stingier on the sauces — the sauce bottles were no longer at our table to refill on our own, so we had to ask for more. Also, the veggies that came with the course were not refillable for free(their shredded cabbage salad is though)!! At the end of the meal, we still were able to leave feeling satiated due to all the broth + cabbage salad + phở + porridge, but it is always disappointing when things deviate considerably from the original meal and experience. I still want to give them credit for being one of the best-tasting Korean shabu shabu places out there(on par, if not better than Seoul Garden). Hope they just work on their consistency!

Best Shabu Shabu in LA! Prompt service, quality food, great menu suggestions and convenient parking. My second time here, last time I ordered Kobe beef Sea Food Combo, this time I got Angus Beef + Mushroom. Honestly, I think Angus is good enough. Kobe was not amazing or memorable. After you are done with your meal, you get rice noodle and jook. Both were delicious! Wayyyy better than the last shabu shabu place I visited: Oren(in terms of service, interior and quality).

This place is nice and clean, and the waiters are very helpful with getting you your food and even cutting up the veggies for you! Coworker and I just got the usual shabu, which is already a decent amount of meat – we got beef, which was delicious and soft. The broth itself is mostly salty, with a hint of something that I can’t place. I feel like the spicy one has more flavor, due to the chilis or whatever they put in it. I do like the porridge and noodles at the end, which is extra flavorful due to all the veggies and meat that’s been soaking for the whole meal. I live closer to SG and Little Tokyo, which is home to hot pot and shabu galore so I’m rather biased when it comes to eating amazing shabu, but I was satisfied with this as well. Their location is also very convenient as you can walk right across the street and grab some bingsoo dessert after :)

Ermagawd. Let’s cover the basics. Parking: We were able to find street parking(lucky us). Price: $$ There’s always people here. If you’re like me and you’ve dominated just about every restaurant in ktown, Unilocal is your best friend. It was a shabu type of night(I was trying to find a semi healthy restaurant so I don’t completely ruin my diet and this was the best I could come up with, don’t judge me). It’s in the same plaza(Kids Land) where my momma used to buy me my toys in my reigning days, the days where I got everything I want… which no longer exists now… but that’s not what this review is for… We came in one hour before closing time and they were very reluctant to accept us, but they ended up letting us stay! The amount of meat they gave us was slightly more than usual(I think it was the leftover meat they had sliced for the day), but who’s complaining?! The shabu & spring roll combo is definitely more than enough for 2 people. Lots of greens and you can always ask for more when you run out. It was feeling way too healthy, so we ended up getting a bottle of soju :). The combo also comes with a small portion of noodles, but worry not if you think this won’t fill you up. At the end of your meal, they make porridge(squash and egg?) using the shabu soup, right in front of you :)

This became one of my favorite shabu spots in Los Angeles. This is a fairly new restaurant just about a year a two ago. You can park in their parking structure and you can get validation for 2 hours from the restaurant on the way out. The restaurant has a pretty good space, so it will be good for groups also. It has a good combination of korean shabu and vietnamese spring rolls. I only tried their lunch menu and thier beef shabu and spring rolls are about $ 15. It is not cheap compare to other Korean foods in the neighborhood for lunch, but I think it brings a pretty good varieties for you to try. You can do some shabu style with veggies and meat, and you can also make your own spring rolls with their sauces and veggies. After you are done, they also make you rice noodles and porridge. For $ 15, I think it is healthy and pretty well balanced meal. The service was pretty good. I thought they may have little more people than they actually need but that allows you to get more attention if you need it. I would definitely come back for lunch though but I am not sure if it is worth it to pay $ 20 or more for dinner. If you’d like to have a new shabu place with some vietnamese twist, this is the place! Foods: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Atmosphere: 4 stars Overall experience: 4 stars

Okay, so I’ve been looking for a shabu spot in LA for a year now. I’m from OC, and that area is swarming with Shabu restaurants! I believe this restaurant hasn’t been opened for too long? Maybe a year or two? The entrance is kind of confusing for this place. There’s two entrances but really, the one you are coming in from Wilshire is the back entrance. Parking’s a bit confusing too if you aren’t too familiar with Koreatown. There is a private parking lot, right before H Mart on Western! Let’s get on to the food. For 2 people, we order Kobe beef and regular order of prime beef for Shabu. It can get confusing again, so you can always ask the servers how to order. There is two types of broth, spicy or non-spicy. Wow, that was a lot of food by the way. There are instructions on TV how to make your spring roll correctly, if you ate confused. Other than that it’s easy and self serve. I really like the idea of vermicelli noodles instead of udon. They make porridge for you too!

This place is huge! For a restaurant in k-town at least. The place is super clean, very modern with lots of wood accents. Very home-y. The shabu experience here is fun and unique! Ordered the shabu + spring roll sets ~$ 21 each. Pretty unique shabu experience but way more pricey than I expected. Our total came out to be about $ 25 a person. It was worth it though, considering you get like 4 different meals at once(w/the porridge + noodle soup they make afterwards). The DIY spring roll set was on the pricey side imo since it didn’t come with meat. You get a huge plate of shredded veggies to stuff your spring rolls with and that itself was $ 20. Fun and unique, but I felt like I was paying 20 for nicely plated vegetables. We ended up taking some of the meat from the shabu set to add into the spring rolls. However, this is probably one of the BEST shabu experiences I’ve ever had(coming from a girl who shabus at least once every week). The meat quality is superb and the veggies were super fresh. Cooking meat, dippin shabu, making spring rolls – there was so much going on at once, it was kinda overwhelming but awesome at the same time lol! Afterwards, they take what’s left of your broth and make something similar to phở noodle soup with it. Sooo tasty and I enjoyed that a lot. And after that, they take the broth and make you delicious porridge. The best porridge I’ve ever had… wow. Servers are super nice and just an overall great experience!(though a lot of them seem to only speak Korean) Parkings easy and free(in the structure attached to it) so what’s stoppin you from coming here?! Can’t wait to be back.

[Update: The food is super pricey for what it is. For regular beef, lam, & some veggies, we ended up paying $ 33 per person. That’s way too overpriced.] The bowls and utensils here are greasy. I had to really wipe them down and even then, it’s still super gross. Do they wash them with soap or just rinse them? I think the lattter. I don’t care if the food is good — the greasy bowls and spoons are just so off putting.

If there’s a perfect shabu place out there, Shabu Hyang comes pretty close. The price is super worth how much food you get(you’ll be super full if you finish everything) and I promise you’ll like it. I got the half/half broth but I prefer the spicy one. My beef shabu came with a plate of beef, veggies, vermicelli, and porridge. I was full before I even got halfway through the noodles! You have a choice of three different sauces(I believe they’re sesame, ponzu, and hot sauce) but I kept going for the ponzu. Service was a little slow with giving us water but they helped me cook the porridge and veggies. I forgive them though because it was so good. Not a lie, I recommend you check this place out!

If you want some delicious shabu shabu, or a pot of phở, or a savory bowl of porridge all for the price of one, then you have definitely stepped into the right place. The concept behind Shabu Hyang is quite interesting and my hat goes off to them for execution and taste of food. Most restaurants that try to execute something like this usually doesn’t work out. The food is awesome here. I always get the half and half here because the spicy broth is pretty much a bowl of spiciness. The vegetables are very fresh and very pleasing to the eye. There is so much food that you just don’t know where to begin. I also got the spicy cooked pork and boy, those guys were spicy as well. Come here with a large group as they are doing special buy two of anything and get a third free during their special hours. That deal even includes soju, or even hot pots. Thanks Jimmy for the awesome service and taking care of our large party! The manager was very nice and Jimmy was on top of his game for helping us out and really took care of us. I would definitely come back here.

So good! Perfect place to enjoy a guilt free meal in ktown! Went with a few friends and had the shabu shabu and spring roll meal. They have 3 delicious sauce options with fresh meat, delicious soup, and veggies to roll into spring rolls. I would definitely come again! Hopefully soon
