Love that I can call in for a pickup order within fifteen minutes. Their website should allow for online ordering in the near future, but, for now, I really do not mind the phone order. I prefer this over the sushi they have at Ralph’s, but, to be honest, it is not what I would consider high quality. However, I know that, and taking that into consideration, it is a great fast-food sushi place. The fish is not terrible and pretty good, and I personally enjoy the hand rolls. The oriental salad is pretty tasty too. The employees are also very nice and quick. The place is also clean, which I appreciate. All in all, not a bad place to grab a quick meal. The prices are decent and I like it enough to continue ordering from here.

They take«breaks» they close at 4pm and open again at 5pm the owner was upset cause people kept coming in but he had the doors wide open so people assumed it was open he was screaming at a costumer saying he needs to rest and he needed a «break» it’s not the costumes fault. Really bad service I was mortified. This place is a joke

Food was ok, but just really really grumpy employees. A guy who seemed like the owner or manager was so dick. Never want to go there again.

Came here for lunch while walking through downtown. Tried the handle combo which gives 3 rolls, a choice of 3 different kinds of salads and miso soup for $ 10. The miso soup was something out of a bag or at least it tasted like that. I tried the oriental salad which was pretty good. Good mix of greens with a mandarin like sauce mixed with almonds. The hand rolls were actually decent! The spicy tuna and the California roll was good but the shrimp tempura was alright. Not a bad place for lunch.

If I could give it a zero, I would. I actually didn’t eat here, rather I put in an order, waited half an hour, then was told that my order wasn’t processed. What a waste of time. They reimbursed my money, but did nothing for my time. No appologies, just a «things happen» shrug — well, one thing that won’t happen is a return visit.

I’m a regular at this place and it is because it is consistent every time I go here… Which is at least once a week. I suggest the chicken bowl or the tempura bowl as if you get them for«eating here» it is the perfect amount for lunch. The prices are fairly reasonable and the food is done just right. You get your choice of 1 of 3 salads that rotate daily. The older asian guy I think is the owner and he is generally whipping up the sushi(which I’ve never tried). He is always looking very busy and has a take charge attitude.

This places reminds me of Soy except one level below that. Essentially Amercanized Japanese food. They have fewer roll selections and the salads they offer do not seem fresh. The worst part was when I was eating the roll I got, I found a hair in it. And if you’re wondering, yes I still ate it! A plus though is that the udon was really good!

Small fast food sushi and salad spot with average food and prices. I do have an issue with the flying insects and the fish not being cleaned properly before it’s served. There are much better quality places that offer better prices for lunch DTLA than this this little shop.

I came here for lunch this afternoon since it is on my walk to and from the office everyday. During lunch time this place is PACKED. Lines move fast, but food takes a little longer to come out the kitchen. I ordered the grilled salmon bowl(with brown rice) and it came with a side of salad– your choice between oriental cabbage salad or tossed green salad. I wanted something crunchier so I opted for the oriental cabbage salad. The dressing is light, but still flavorful. The salmon was decent– exactly what you expect to get from an Americanized Japanese fast-food joint, so NONEEDTOBECRAZYCRITICALONQUALITY! I got exactly what I wanted– fast, cheap, and filling… so for what it was, Sansai met my expectations for fast food. I like that they let you get your own serving of teriyaki sauce. They have a little sauce station with hot sauce, soy sauce, and teriyaki so you can decide on how drenched you like your food. I am a huge fan of teriyaki but the the teriyaki they have here is a little… different. It’s super thick, black like molasses, and sticky. It’s also not as sweet as normal teriyaki sauce tends to be which threw me off a little. You’ve been warned… SAUCEWITHCAUTION.

Have tried this place a few times at work lunches and their sushi rolls are pretty damn good, and their spicy chicken teriyaki is good as well. Speedy delivery and great tasting food, what more do you want?

I know not to expect great customer service at fast food joints but man… This place is Horrible. The cashier was SO rude and mean… I think the MEANEST cashier I’ve ever ran into EVER! I felt SO rushed to order when there was noone else in there but me. So I just ordered the standard chicken bowl and CA roll. Then he started to get frustrated and complain to ME that noone was able to prepare the sushi rice before leaving… um Okay fine. So just a spicy chicken bowl then. He grumpily took my order and I just wanted to tell him forget it and walk the extra block to Flame Broiler. Geez… As I was waiting for the food, I saw other people. iono if they were employees, friends, or customers… but i know they were getting their food faster than me… without even having to order :[. They just yelled something in Spanish to the kitchen employees inside and were able to get their food… Unprofessional and no managerial supervision. As for the chicken bowl? It was just okay. That’s the only reason why I gave them TWO stars rather than ONE star. BUT I prefer Flame Broiler THANKS.

Had a really delicious Seared Ahi tuna salad. It comes with miso soup. It was only 300 calories and filled me up just enough for a light lunch and under $ 10. Perf!

Cashier was rude. Manager came back from break,(eating in front of customers), wiped his mouth and teeth with napkin and returned to work bagging orders WITHOUT washing his hands! Gross! Let’s hope I don’t get sick! :(

2.5 stars for Americanized Japanese food! The side salads are the winners here, the meat… ehh…not so much. This place is pretty affordable, and there is a wide range of things listed on the menu(sushi and meats). But you get what you pay for so I wouldn’t expect the best quality. I’ve been here a few times and I usually order a side salad. There are 3 side salads that they make daily. The sumi salad pretty tasty. It’s kinda like asian coleslaw. Sliced cabbage with peanuts, wonton bits and sesame dressing. It’s there everyday because I think it’s the most popular. The other daily salad is just a regular mixed green, covered with an asian dressing. Nothing special. The last time I was there, I ordered the steak bowl(~$ 6). Comes with rice(brown rice is an extra 50 cents!) and your choice of a side salad. Good portions. It isn’t actually served in a bowl, but in a little tray that reminds me of a TV dinner: P Steak was really chewy, dry and a bit tasteless. Needed to flavor it up with some teriyaki sauce. I wouldn’t get it again… I’ve had better. In regards to the meat my coworker(to goes there pretty regularly) says its«inconsistent.» So maybe some days it’s better? Service is pretty nice and they get your food out pretty quick. Interior isn’t the cleanest but they do have a tv to watch if you sit inside. Limited seating and it gets really busy at lunch!

SPICYTUNAROLLWITHGREENSALAD… Order number ### I eat here almost every day and call in my order before I pick it up. Anyhoo… the spicy tuna roll with green salad for $ 5.99 is AWESOME… and I love me some sushi… Seriously, $ 5.99??? That is better than any lunch or happy hour price I’ve seen for sushi! And the presentation rivals any major sushi restaurants’ spicy tuna with orange roe on the outside, sprinkled with scallions… And they give you salad tossed with fried wonton slivers, almond slices, sesame seeds, and mandarin organge… you better give them a break. Yah, the owner is unfriendly, but he hasn’t messed up my order and it’s always ready when I get there. I also recommend the chicken & salmon bowls. Just don’t forget to get your extra condiments of teriyaki and soy sauce!!!

If you are looking for sub par americanized japanese food look no further. I have graced this place twice as I feel you’re not your best or worst at any given moment. That being said I gave them a second chance today having the first encounter to be mediocre at best. I ordered a side of gyoza, that was it [since it wasn’t worth my money last time]. I paid using card instead of cash because I do not carry any on me as I walk the streets of DTLA daily. Because of this the cashier gave me grief and let out a large sigh before taking my card. I walked back to work only to find a treasure chest full of charred and burned gyoza. I suppose pressing a few more buttons due to my use of card caused the Chef to do his best in making the food slightly bearable to eat. The zombies that infest San Sai are exactly that. No smiles, no hello, no thank you or welcomes. In short, this place blows.
