Lana is the best! I’m not someone who likes frequenting hair salons. I have been tending to my natural hair and trimming it for years now. I decided to seek out a hairstylist in hopes to get a nice twist out for my wedding day. After a disappointing experience with another stylist, I considered doing my hair myself.
Lana is a breath of fresh hair. She’s professional, bright and sunny, and really responsive to her customer’s needs. The whole air of the salon seems to be this way, actually. She really listened about you needs and was open to try different approaches to my do. After a first run through, I completely trusted her with my tresses. She blew out my hair, trimmed it — which has left my hair with great shape and bounce, and twisted it marvelously.
Another bonus, is that they use a lot of the brands that I like — Miss Jessie, Shea Moisture, Mizani.
For all the naturals out there, I would consider checking 1492 out!

Great salon. Quiet quick and they do not over change. Lana is great and so are the rest of the girls.
Good hair salon.

I’ve been here twice. Shannon gave me a press and curl + cellophane each time. She is always quick and my hair was bouncy. She even fit me in at the last minute just before Mother’s Day weekend. Her mother, Irene, is the owner and is supposed to be pretty good as well.
Why only 3 stars? Well… when I leave my hair is always BIG. Not just bouncy and full of body but BIG. The ends are a little rougher than I like as well. She gets my hair straight but not exactly flat, if that makes sense… it’s probably my hair and not her… my lovely naps take a unique talent. Seriously. In her defense, all of her other clients that walked through the door had AMAZINGLY beautiful, healthy heads of hair.
Anyhoo, the prices are moderate and they sell Miss Jessie’s and Mixed Chicks hair products (among others). They specialize in «natural» hair styles, but there are stylists who also perm hair, as well. There is a diverse group of clientele and the shop has been full of friendly, lively chatter when I went. But there was no rude conversations of the neck-​rolling variety. I’d recommend it.
