This is a very historic Church, and Kent’s review is quite informative.
Father Lani was responsible for bringing so many refugees to the United States, including my father and mother. I was baptized at St. Stephen’s.
Although I live far away from St. Stephen’s at this time, I will try to participate in some future festivities (probably Kirchweih).

I was so sadden to hear that the church where I made my first holy communion, confirmation and got married in no longer provides a mass in Spanish (all three sacraments were celebrated by the same priest, too! What ever happened to Fr. Hermann Joseph Rettig?). However, it is not surprising that the Spanish language service was discontinued as they never really catered as fervently to the immediate Hispanic community that surrounds it. It’s a beautiful little Church that celebrates German and Hungarian services. From what I can remember, they try to develop that community and that’s is beautiful to see.
