Red Gate Recorders

Red Gate Recorders is an amazing place for a number of reasons. And unlike most other places they seem to knock it out of the park in every department.
When you walk into red gate you immediate feel a good vibe and it doesn’t take long to see why. Owner Sam Darring and Production wizard Chris Harbach literally put some blood, sweat, and tears into building this place. The work they put it definitely paid off. Enough so that I paid them to come through my own studio and hook it up with the Red Gate touch. Indeed they did. They built me a 10 foot tall sliding soundproof wall that has made my studio room much more superb than before. They also built me a custom tt patchpay and wired up my whole setup so that everything in my studio would be easily dialed in with just a few patch cables. This alone was a huge time saver and makes my creative process so much better.
Back to Red Gate though, as far as recording goes you have endless options. A huge live room with a beautiful grand piano, tons of amps, synths, pedals, and all kinds of other toys. When you go into the custom drum room you have a whole new room with an amazing sound to it. This room also has some amazing little gems in like an old school wurlitzer, and a mystery organ that produces sounds straight outta Radiohead’s Kid A album. There’s a nice vocal room that also contains some cool vintage amps. Then there’s the control room which is equipped with numerous pieces of clutch gear that any gearhead would drool over. I’ve spent many hours in here and learned a lot of things.
Enough about the gear though. The real value of this place comes from the people who built it. Sam and Chris are fucking legit! I’ve spent a lot time working with them in numerous different types of situations whether it be mixing a project, tracking, writing songs from scratch, or mastering. They all always have been on point. Chris really is an exceptionally talented mixing engineer as well. A cool thing about him too is that he shares his knowledge and passion for it. Just from mixing albums with him I have picked up so many cool little gems that I still apply today when I’m working on mixes of my own.
I normally am not the type of person to shower individuals with compliments like this but in this case it is just. I really appreciate and value whats these guys have done and will continue to do. I definitely look forward to working with them again in the future and without a doubt they get 5 stars.

Love this spot. They host a variety of events here: art gallery exhibitions, comedy, live music, etc. Always a good crowd, cheap drinks, can’t ask for more!

Red Gate Recorders is a great place to track your music. They have excellent isolation and the center «drum room» is amazing for tracking a drum kit. They have top notch gear and the people who know how to use it. There is parking and the location is easy to get to.

This place is awesome! Sam and Chris are pros. The studio is beautiful, and comfortable. I’ve recorded and had numerous projects mixed and mastered at Redgate. The space is big, I had an album release party there, they were very accommodating, and always a pleasure to work with.

This is by far my favorite studio in LA. The guys there are super chill and friendly, but most importantly they are professional, reliable, and produce amazing results. Whenever I record music in the studio, I always feel very comfortable and inspired. Sam and Chris make recording sessions fun and energizing, which I definitely feel helps foster creativity and motivates me to keep writing more!
When I’m not in LA, I’ve also sent over pre-​recorded projects for post-​production, and am consistently amazed at how much they can improve the sound. I’ve sent over sloppy-​sounding projects recorded entirely at home, and somehow they come back sounding radio quality. I don’t know what kind of engineering/​production magic they’ve got going on there, but it’s pretty mind-​blowing.
As an independent artist that doesn’t have an infinite amount of money to invest, it’s always stressful to turn over your songs and trust them to someone else, but I’ve yet to be disappointed by these guys! All of my interactions there have resulted in time and money well spent! I highly recommend Red Gate.

Red Gate Recorders is a magical, musical playground with everything any musician could possibly want. Sam and Chris are super friendly and plenty knowledgeable. They make the whole recording process go by very smoothly. I love going here. I love the people. I love the vibe. I love the community. Every time I come here, I leave happy.

I produced a moderately budgeted music video earlier this year and was able to shoot the entire thing at Red Gate Recorders. For the video, I needed multiple sets in one location and the studio was the perfect setting. And because it is a recording studio, they had all of the additional playback needs covered as well to help the shoot go smoothly. The management is very helpful and accommodating — they want to work with you no matter what your project needs. I found Sam to be really easy to work with and the whole process went well.
Location-​wise it is the perfect setting outside of busy LA but still close to all of the media equipment you need for either a video shoot or a recording session. Parking is more than ample and the neighborhood is quiet — perfect for getting solid work done.

We rented the place to film a short movie and we had the best experience! The owners were really nice and extremely helpful while we were using the space. We had access to everything we needed, including being able to park several cars on their lot. The doors were open to us every time we needed to check some details ahead of time. And there is a Starbucks right in the corner!
The space has different rooms (kitchen, lounge, the spacious studio, restrooms) which is great for those who need to bring a lot of people. We had 45 people inside, plus equipments, and still everybody was nicely accommodated. 5 stars!
