Recess Truck

Our company hired Recess Truck for an employee appreciation reward. They came out and parked in our lot for 90 minutes and served over 40 employees. They were professional, efficient and super nice. Everything went smoothly. The ice cream was rich and creamy and our employees are still talking about the french toast ice cream sandwiches. It really was a great experience. And Connie was super cool. We would and most likely will hire them again soon.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this food truck at a parking lot during a thursday for downtown la art walk. I was with my little sister and we saw two girls holding a cone filled with BLUE ice cream. We were intrigued and went to the food truck to see what it was. After reading it was cookies and cream and cookie dough in blue ice cream, we turned away but decided to come back knowing I would regret it if we didn’t try the cookie monster ice cream. I also wanted my little sister to try it too. We both ordered one scoop in a cone each. We were both blown away. It was so delicious. Full of cookies and cookie dough chunks. We didn’t like how it melted quickly leaving some of our hands with blue spots and our mouths and tongues blue. It was funny but at the same time we didn’t want to walk around dtla looking blue. I also thought $ 4 for ice cream was expensive. Would I eat it again? YES!

We choose Recess Truck a minimum of three times each week, all calendar year! Very best frozen treats I’ve experienced! They may have numerous standard tastes and periodic tastes. Strongly Recommend to any or all of my buddies.

My friend and I loved the 1980’s ice cream trucks that would drive around our neighborhoods, so we were crazed to check this truck out. We each chose a different flavor and was shocked at how intensely rich and creamy the flavors were. We looked at this truck and realized its a brand new truck, totally OCD clean both outside and inside, and the workers were really nice and patient. Its so not your neighborhood ice cream truck of the 80’s, but a really modern and sophisticated take on a nostalgic pastime. They have fresh made-​to-​order french toast ice cream sandwiches and they were AMAZING!!!

Recess Truck is the best! They were at my place of work yesterday and I tried the Cookie Monster ice cream yesterday and it was so delicious! My co-​worker tried their lychee drink and it was so refreshing. I highly recommend that you track this truck and try it. I promise you will not be disappointed!

The quality of their ice cream is really good! Super creamy and flavorful. Love their fried ice cream as well. It’s so big that 2 – 3 people can share. Overall great quality and generous amount of food. Love it!

Recess sets a new standard for ice cream trucks. I got their Cookie Monster, delicious combo of cookie n cream & chocolate chip cookie dough — it’s blue! Just like the cookie monster.

The Mango Ice Cream is my favorite! Yum! Creamy n Smooth. So tasty! Friendly service too! :)

Get the cookie monster flavor, so good. Other then that, I would recommend a yogurt shop.

I tried this truck at the Cars and Stripes event in San Pedro last week. It is really pricey for ice cream! A banana split and cookie sundae cost me $ 10!!!
Also, the wait was really long. I know events like this cause longer lines, but the wait we had for ice cream to be scooped was pretty crazy. Maybe they need more people working in the truck?

This was pretty good. I was adamant about trying this truck when it was in Chinatown during the Chinatown Summer Nights. There were many ways to have your ice cream… ice cream sandwich? ice cream sundae? ice cream french toast? ice cream cone? ice cream… yup! I tried the Salted Caramel with the french toast. The ice cream was smooth, creamy and rich with a nice amount of saltiness — not too overwhelming. Still sweet and slightly salty. The ice cream melted on the french toast and it was soggy and a little difficult to eat. I’m glad I gave this a try, maybe next time I should stick to the ice cream in a cone.

They got here early for our event. Very professional. Very quick. The Cookie Monster flavor — combo of cookie n cream & chocolate chip cookie dough — was awesome. Lots of banana splits. Everyone is stoked. Their helpings are also generous so you won’t feel like you’re getting ripped off. The owner is a breeze to work with btw if you want to have them at your next event. I also had the strawberry, mango, & green tea mochi — strawberry was the best. Lots of people raving about the peach tea Popsicles though I didn’t try one myself.

Of all the places in California, I find this truck nestled on G St. in the Gaslamp District. So you know this little engine that could treks all over California. Since its based out of the LA area I’m surprised that I have never seen or heard of this ice cream truck.
But you how that saying goes. (insert quote here).
Well anyways the only reason I got the chance to try this ice cream was because of collab they had with The Good Stuff Cookie Co. combining this amazing ice cream with their delicious cookies.
The workers of this truck are so cool and friendly, I just had a long conversation with one of the employees, so they are approachable, or maybe I am; either way its great to be able to just chill out with the workers.
I went ahead and went with the Cookie Monster flavor! How can I not? I love cookie monster, Check my profile name haha. Its reminiscent of Afters’ Cookie Monster flavor with cookies&cream, cookie dough with a drop of food coloring :)
With the serving of ice cream you get I wouldn’t even consider it pricey. They are extremely generous with their serving sizes.
I will def be on the lookout for this little cruiser from now on. They make it from Pasadena all the way to Long Beach and everywhere in between.

I’ve only written a few reviews… but this place compelled me for sure! I’ve come across this truck a few times now, most recently at the Miles For Music 5k at Paramount. Wow, the ice cream is delicious and I highly recommend the salted caramel. Of course you might try the french toast sandwich. How could you not? The people working the truck are extremely friendly and I was happy to buy from them. Not always the case with some of the food trucks around here.

According to the Unilocal app, I would have received a free scoop of ice cream if I checked-​in. I never think to check-​in at a food truck so I sadly missed out on that offer. It would have been awesome though since I ordered a double scoop for $ 6.75 which is pricey. What’s disappointing is they don’t do half scoops with two different flavors and I was handed my ice cream in a cup but would have preferred a cone had I been asked. The ice cream was really good though! I was impressed.
I went to their site to find out how and why it was so good, what they do differently. Turns out this «super premium» treat contains 16 to 18% butterfat and aside from the finest ingredients, it’s sweetened with pure cane sugar.

«You look like root beer», he says.
‘What’s THAT supposed to mean?” says my scowl. «And if you say it means you want to drink me, I’ll slap you.»
He laughs and his slight belly shakes.
His head is thrown back and I can see two gold teeth
shining through the hot fog of his mouth.
«Kickback, esa! I just meant that you look like you could go for a cold root beer. Maybe a float? Ya’no, with the vanilla ice cream in it? Dang. But now that you mention it… you do look refreshing…»
He’s throwing his head back and laughing again before he can even finish his sentence.
I keep my hand firmly on my hip and roll my eyes at him.
My hips roll with them, and I’m turning my back to the mother of pearl buttons on his Guayabera shirt.
I stare up at the menu.
«The mochi delight is bomb. And on a hot day like this? Mmmm-​mmm»
His words leave his mouth and land on my shoulder.
I fix my eyes on the fresh baked cookies and listen to the lady in front of me debating between a single scoop or two for her chubby, whiney toddler.
«She’s gonna cave. Watchit. See… see? She’s already wavering. Lookit…»
I listen.
I watchit.
I lookit.
And just as gold teeth predicted, she ordered a double scoop of chocolate.
«She gonna regret that later, hmm-​mmm»
I try to ignore him as he has his own external dessert debate behind me, talking himself into the French Toast ice cream slider one minute, and the Fried Banana Split the next. I try to ignore the stupid little song he begins humming when he figures it out, but that’s a bit harder and I’m grateful when the cashier asks me what I’d like to order.
«She wants a root beer float!» he says excitedly.
I spin around, hair twirling behind me. «I have a boyfriend.»
«Well, shit, good for you, mami», he smiles sincerely.
He looks at the cashier and gives her the same smile.
«Cancel that float; someones’ boyfriend won’t allow it»
I take a couple steps into his personal space.
Feel him get nervous at my closeness, watch him gulp.
His eyes are playful and curious, with a hint of fire.
I look at him defiantly.
«I HATE ice cream.»
(I ordered a pineapple slushie,
2 chocolate chip cookies
and called it a day.
Bomb, ese.)

I dont often give out 5 stars but this ice cream truck deserved 5! The people who worked in the truck were sooo friendly & gave me a lot of good choices & suggestions! I had to try the banana split & just a single scoop of their mint ice cream. The texture of their ice cream is really good & it was soo delicious! My cousin got the coffee ice cream with toppings which was also good! So happy i got to try this since im a big fan of ice cream!

This truck is a dream come true for any dessert lover! They have various dessert options, they offer samples and their ice cream flavors are delicious :) another big plus is their ice cream is Hawaiian. Be sure to try their ice cream sandwich, french toast slider or their floats :)

It was my first visit to the Airtel food truck event and I was happy to see several trucks that I had never tried before. I was especially pleased to see that there was a dessert truck in attendance, I would be going home with a satisfied sweet tooth!
Luckily my nephew was with me so we could sample several trucks. My nephew was still eating when I told him that I was going to go check out the Recess Truck. There were so many things that looked good on the menu, well everything looked good! I went back to my nephew and asked him if he was up for a couple of desserts, he said sure so I headed back over.
I decided on two items, Mochi Delight which is two mochis cut in half with your choice of ice cream, it is served like a sundae with chocolate syrup, whip cream, and a cherry on top. I have had mochi before but not served in this manner. Mochi for those of you that may not know is a small ball of ice cream that is placed inside a thin layer of dough that is made from pounded rice. The second item I chose was the French Toast Sliders which is french toast with ice cream sandwiched in-​between.
The mochi was ready quickly but I was told that the French Toast Sliders would take five minutes or so, the nice lady inside the truck told me that she would bring me the french toast when it was ready.
I brought the mochi to the table, this would be my nephews first experience with mochi! Both he and I were very pleased, the ice cream inside was very good. We had just finished up the mochi when the french toast was brought over. I wish I could tell you which item I enjoyed more but that would be impossible. Both items were great. My nephew had a pleasant first time mochi experience and I had my sweet tooth fully satisfied.
