R & R Custom Upholstery

I found this shop on Unilocal*as one in the area near me. I inherited a loveseat from the 1940’s and the cushion was badly in need of repair. I called the shop and spoke with Jessica. I explained that I didn’t want the entire loveseat reupholstered, just the cushion redone. She told me that would not be a problem but that I would have to buy my own fabric. I told her I wanted to come to the shop and show her what I had. Jessica was extremely helpful by phone (sight unseen of my problem) so I was very encouraged.
I went to the shop to meet up with Jessica and I was thoroughly impressed with her attention to what I wanted to accomplish. I asked if they had any left over fabric I could choose from and luckily for me they did! I placed my order for the cushion to be stuffed and a new cover to be made.
I was promised the cushion on a set date, and before I could check back in with the shop, I received a call from Jessica letting me know it was ready for pick up. This type of customer service was very impressive to me. The finished product was excellently done, and I couldn’t be more pleased with my interaction with R & R Custom Upholstery.
The shop was clean and the phone and in-​person customer service was exceptional! What more can you ask?

So, even though I was just here… I was just here again with another project! This time, it was redoing some outdoor cushions which have been terribly faded by the sun. They used to be black, and have turned this awful shade of gray with dark splotches that would make Miranda Priestly (DEVIL… PRADA, but surely you knew that right?!) faint. And rightly so!
I had no doubt that the masters here at R&R could make me some perfect and pretty new cushion covers. I brought the old ones in, they told me to get 9 yards of fabric. We chose some Sunbrella — — which is the absolute best outdoor fabric (it’s what commercial sailcloths are made of), and totally worth it because let’s face it who wants to make replacing cushions an annual event? — - and brought it in. Took about a week for the new cushion covers to be made. Totally reasonable timeframe, and also totally reasonable cost. This was definitely less expensive than what we would’ve had to custom order at
for example, or any of the higher end online outdoor purveyors. And I knew there was no way we would find something off the shelf anywhere, or from basic stock — — because each piece was a unique size.
The fit and finish on the new cushion covers is superb. Completely straight, tight, flawless as usual. I already also have a new bed cover in here being made, but these pillows show once again the excellent work they do.
This is the kind of careful, craftsman handiwork which is hard to come by. R&R knows what they are doing, and they do it well. I wouldn’t trust my furniture fixes anywhere but here!

We were moving again and I was facing dragging my collection of broken down furniture to yet another house to set up. I had tables with broken legs that had to lean on a wall to stand, chairs with tears in them and worst of all my grandma’s living room set that smelled like cat piss. I called R&R and the owner Diego came to see my big mess. He quoted a really good price, but since he was taking half the furniture in my two bedroom place, it was too much for me to spend. I told him that grandma’s furniture would have to wait. He was genuinely disappointed that the family heirlooms would remain in such dire condition and told me that some clients had left some fabric behind when they had their work done, and that it was already paid for. He offered it to me to help cut the price. First of all I was blown away by this gesture. Who does stuff like that anymore?
I went down to look at the fabric and loved it. There was enough to cover everything and so I was able to get the whole job done with the new lower price. When the furniture came back, it looked like museum pieces. I honestly wasn’t expecting that. They did beautiful work.
It is now six months later and the work and the springs are holding up just fine. Poor internal work has been a problem with other antique pieces that I have had recovered. They look great and then the springs give out in a few months because they are poorly tied. Tying springs is an art form. Diego showed me before they covered the spring sets how they go the extra mile on this invisible but critical element. That is one reason that I waited so long to write this review because I wanted to see how everything held up.
I know I am gushing, but there was really a big emotional component of handing off furniture that has been with me for a long time to someone. I sat on my grandma’s couch as a baby! Anyway, I have to acknowledge these guys for what they do because they really are fantastic, reasonably priced, easy to work with and all around just nice people. They are very busy, so be patient with call backs. Diego is a hard man to get ahold of sometimes but he will do right by you.

These guys knocked one out of the park for me.
Old rocker, needs love and fabric and hardware. They had some leather which saved me from buying it elsewhere in larger quantity. Chair looks great. Price was reasonable. Felt like I got a really professional job!

So I found the best bed ever on CL, a platform tufted upholstered sleigh bed. Even better, it was super cheap. But it was red. Bright fire engine red. After a failed attempt to get it reupholstered at The Brass Tack in Venice (due to their incompetence), I ended up shooting an email to R&R and then going in to look at fabric samples.
It’s a family run business and from beginning to end they could not have been nicer or more helpful. Their quote was 40% less than The Brass Tack, while using fabric that cost twice as much! So on short notice, they came and picked up this giant platform and headboard, and did a beautiful job on the reupholstery in a very timely manner. They also replaced the several ghetto-​fab bolts that were previously connecting the pieces, with two clean locking brackets which hold more securely and look a ton better. They then delivered the large, heavy finished product up two flights of stairs without a problem. Seriously, stellar.
