Pro Tread Services Treadmill Repair

Mike was awesome! Not only did he work around my schedule and WAITED for me to get home, he figured out the problem, fixed it quick and actually showed me how to avoid the problem in the future! I wish I could have tipped him more than a box of Girl Scout cookies because he made my day! Totally worth the money!

This company or the owner is ripping off people through the LA and Orange County area. Do not call this guy at all. I had problems with my treadmill. He showed up late to the appointment and took 10 minutes to look at the treadmill. When he removed the front plastic hatch, he told me I needed a new motor controller. He said he was going to call me that afternoon to give me a price for the parts. I believe his name was Mike. He was a tall, white older guy and he makes you think he knows everything about your equipment.
He then told me that I need to buy a motor controller to make the treadmill work. He charged me $ 95.00 dollars but told me if I buy the part and pay for his labor, he was going to give me credit for the whole amount.
Well, I called this guy six times and he never returned my calls. I ended up calling another company and this new technician told me I did not need a motor controller. The only thing wrong with the treadmill was the belt. The treadmill is now working like new.
Never call this company, I will let the business bureau know about this guy. He just took my money and I never saw him again. He will take advantage of the situation just like a criminal.

We had a ten year old Precor which started slipping and then the motor burned up. A Mike said he would have to order another motor which would take 2 weeks. After waiting 2 months, he finally showed up. After spending $ 1342 on the machine, it still slips. He said it would be warranted for 30 days. Don’t be fooled. After he left, he never answer 3 of my phone calls and numerous emails afterward.
I would never use this guy again for any of our gym equipment.

upate: Same deal. Last guy I got did a full diagnostic on my treadmill, cleaned out the engine, made adjustments everywhere… I didn’t know who I was taking to, thought I was talking to the guy who did a good job… nope… he came by, undid the hood, blew it out with duster… bare minimum… I’m an idiot…
Dude did the bare minimum. Was in and out in about 20 minutes, seemed a bit grumpy, told me that the lube situation wasn’t so bad, didn’t take it from «not so bad» to good for the next 6 months or so. Not a horrible person but definitely doesn’t seem to give a crap. Not very talkative, not a guy who explained what he was doing, and didn’t give a single tip or make any small talk.

I forgot about this guy until I recently cleaned my email and realized people need to know what kind of service this guy provides.
Same scenario, needed my treadmill fixed. Michael came over and said we had the wrong part. The new part arrived in 2 weeks and Michael did not respond until 2 weeks later. He wanted to charge us again for coming over when he was responsible for not responding himself.
I ended up putting the part myself which only took 10 minutes. I don’t mind paying for service if it was worth it but this guy is clearly out there trying to rip people off.
If you have some mechanical skills and are up to the challenge, you’re better off doing the repair or service yourself than giving this guy your money.
Clearly, I wasn’t impressed and couldn’t recommend this guy.

Mike charged me $ 95 to come to my apartment and look at my elliptical. He diagnosed that the crank arm needed to be replaced, which I had suspected. He estimated that it would cost me around $ 50 for the part, «unless they only sell them in pairs» PLUS another $ 45 for a return visit to actually do the work. He said he would e-​mail me that night or the next day to let me know what the manufacturer said about the cost, and to let him know then if I want him to go ahead and order it.
A few days later, I got an e-​mail from Mike saying the part costs $ 129. WHAT?! Thinking, «this can’t be right» I logged on to the manufacturer’s website to check it out. The website said $ 29. I e-​mailed the manufacturer to double check and got a reply the next morning confirming $ 29. I CALLED to triple check they had the right part for my model #, and they confirmed it is $ 29 plus shipping and tax, which would come to about $ 50.
I e-​mailed Mike to let him know what I had found (non-​confrontationally), and asked him if I was missing something… Four days later and I haven’t heard back from him. Shocker.
Sounds like this guy is in the business of charging $ 95 to come take a look at things, and charge you an exorbitant amount of money if parts are needed, in case you’re ignorant or trusting enough to fall for it. Whether or not you do, he already made a large sum off you so it’s no skin off his back if you don’t hire him to do the actual repair.
Fortunately, the manufacturer gave me the names of some authorized repair services in my area, which I SHOULD have called them about to begin with. Just because your machine is out of warranty, doesn’t mean you can’t get it fixed by their recommended service providers. Save yourself the trouble and call your machine’s manufacturer.

Save yourself the trouble and find another repair guy. This «tech» operates under several different Buisness names and several different numbers. He only «looked» at what I called in the repairs for, provides terrible customer service (repeat this several times), and item he did replace a part to, my elliptical, now has a broken outer shell. I gave him the“benefit of the doubt” and got screwed in the end. «Good guy» but not a service industry professional. And he’s just out there to «make a buck». I went for a second opinion because I have several pieces of equipment needing repair. The new «true» repair professional is outstanding; and puts this «un”-pro (fessional) tread service to shame. The new «true» repair professional was ashamed at what mike @ pro tread service had done; has been very thorough in diagnosing the equipment failures; is fixing the damage done by mike; and provides excellent customer service. My new guy tells me that he continues to come across people like me who are «victims of mikes work».

I would really like to give a 1 star review, but based on the service we got, i’m not ready to condemn this place. Bought an old treadmill on craigslist, it would run for about 4 miles and then overheat and turn off. It also slipped a lot. I had Pro Tread out for a tuneup, seemed like a good price for an on site job. They had an appointment available close to when we called, the guy showed up 100% on time, was super friendly, helpful, etc. However, when he was out he told us that the work he was doing should help the treadmill run for longer than 4 miles. It ran for less than 2. Called back, he said that because he tightened the belt it runs the motor harder, so it overheats faster. Makes sense, but i’m really confused why he told us that it would run for longer. I basically just paid for this treadmill to become unusable.
