I found Gerry through a friend who’d had a hellish time getting her reel edited. She’d spent more than 400 at another place and had to start over with someone else after getting a terrible final product.
I can «edit,» meaning splice scenes together and lay down a sound track underneath, but reel editing is a whole different business. The most difficult issue is trimming out other actors shots and fudging the underscore so it features you and still makes sense and doesn’t seem cut up. This stuff is difficult. I had a ton of new material and needed it to really sing.
I went to Gerry and couldn’t be happier. He’s a friendly, professional guy, in a central location. He’s meticulous with his work and makes the edits completely undetectable. He’s open to your thoughts, although for the most part I really deferred to his professional advice. He also helped me track down the highest quality clips so my reel looked the best it could.
Within 36 hours of contacting him I had a new reel that my agents/​mgr loved. He’s also the most affordable guy I’ve seen. I had as perfect an experience as you can have! I’ll definitely be a regular.

What I love about working with Gerry is that it is a true collaboration. I have pretty specific ideas about how I want my reel to look, then Gerry makes his suggestions, which most times ends up working better that I had envisioned. Today for example I had a certain clip I wanted to add to my reel, but he felt the addition of some extra material I had led to a fuller and richer scene and he was SO right! His technical and creative know how are wonderful! I love my reel and am proud to show my work!

Gerry Sackman is a sensational video editor and is the only videographer I will use for my demo reel. He is insightful, detailed, specific, knows how to make me look and sound as good as possible and can re-​edit the original clip and make it look even better. His prices are reasonable and he is a reasonable person who knows what he’s doing and is easy to work with. Further, he gets the job done in a timely fashion. I send him my clips and he edits them onto my reel and posts them for my viewing. Then we e-​mail or talk by phone for edits and corrections. GERRY IS A REEL MAGICIAN.
Seriously. I spent $ 600 on editing at another place – I might as well have lit that money on fire. The reel they made was boring and looked awful. Mediocre at best; completely underwhelming. My manager hated it and rightly so.
Gerry took the exact same footage, hunted down better quality downloads, re-​edited the clips, selected better ones, re-​arranged the order, designed a genius opening and made a master piece. He truly studied all the material, thinking about what roles I was right for, what moments I truly shined, and created a reel that I got excited watching– I couldn’t wait to show it to people. Amazing.
He’s got great taste– and SKILL. Gerry made little adjustments a tweaks the other place didn’t even know was possible. Subtle things that made a huge difference in the final product. He was absolutely dogged and wouldn’t stop until it was perfect. AND– he was fast! He did all that in less time, and charged me half as much as the other place!
The result was so VASTLY better I forgot to be pissed about the $ 600 wasted– completely wasted– at the other place (*cough cough – Sp33d R33ls– cough cough*). Whatever. I found Gerry, which was like striking oil.
He’s also just completely awesome to hang out with while you’re working; funny, chill, interesting to talk to.
As soon as my agents and managers started sending out Gerry’s reel, my inbox started filling with auditions. Worth every penny. If he had charged me triple what he did, I wouldn’t have cared.
This town is CHOCK FULL of people and businesses who profit by taking as much cash as they can from actors – actors scraping by working their ass off. People who could give a shit whether or not they are actually helping you while they go for your last dime. Gerry is the rarest of exceptions to that. He’s like a damn unicorn.
Do yourself a favor and book time with him– even if you think your reel is fine. He’ll make it amazing. You will not regret it.
