Really nice service.

I researched and compared the price/​quality for a few months before deciding to purchase motorized window coverings from Pioneer Screen & Shades. I had purchase from 3 Day Blinds before and I can guarantee that 3Day Blinds product quality is much inferior.
My purchase was made a month ago and I am completely blown away with every aspect of dealing with this company. The service was absolutely perfect, timely delivery and installation. I am very happy and I wish I could give 6 stars.

I just had my house remodeled in Manhattan Beach and Jerry and his team installed the most amazing window coverings. Not only fast and professional, their prices were great.

I have a new condo (new for me) and I needed coverings for my huge skylight in my bedroom. There were roman shades there when I moved in but they had water damage. I had them taken down when I painted and needed new ones.
The light is huge and irregular. I had a few estimates. Greg Larsen came out to do the measurements and tell me my choices. He was quite pleasant and took some time explaining the options.
I took some time to decide what company and what kind of blinds to get. I decided on custom fixed light filtering after talking with the owner Greg (another Greg) and getting some advice. These guys even dropped sample fabrics at my home. They earned by business and I was impressed. This was no cheap job to be done so it did indeed take some time for me to decide. I found Pioneer ad SMSS because of the Unilocal reviews actually– so I am helping others.
The work getting completed took some time but they were always courteous and professional and in the end, it was worth the quoted price. They did a nice job. The workers who came were real blind professionals and I was impressed with everything. I have no complaints or feedback how to make it better. It was great start to finish.
If/​when I need some window treatments or need a replacement, I will call them for sure.

If you want Hunter Douglas products for a great price, look no further than Pioneer and Santa Monica Screen & Shades.
Unlike the four other companies that came to our home for consultations, they were the only ones to call back after giving an estimate. Great first impression!
Customer Service: Excellent! Greg S. and Greg L were our main men.
Greg S. is the manager and the first person we met. He demonstrated how each shade worked and showed us all the material relating to the Hunter Douglas products when we first came into the showroom. He remained an active presence throughout our process, calling us to ask if we were happy with the price, installation, etc.
Greg L. came to our home to for the consultation, measurements, and installation. He is very knowledgeable about products. He made himself available when questions arose (we had a lot of them!). Example: We have two fairly large windows overlooking our staircase. Greg L. was the only person who said it was possible to hang one silhouette shade as opposed to two (which would have ruined the entire look).
Installation: Jose and Greg L. did a great job with the installation of the shades. It was a quick and painless process. They arrived on time and ready to install. They both made sure that all the shades worked, paying very close detail to the two shades running on a motor. Greg L. made sure to show us how to remove the panel when installing new batteries.

The space we just moved into has old and tired vertical blinds, i thought these things are supposed to be bullet-​proof… except no one notices that the cords wear out until they snap. Just moved in and never thought to check the cords. Dag nabbit! The blinds are stuck open, no way to close them, and i’ve gotta to find someone to fix this problem before closing time in the evening. «just get on a ladder and fix it yourself,» you say? These vertical blinds are a monstrosity! Over 10 feet high. No way i’m gonna risk breaking my neck on a ladder. At this point I am all sorts of frowny face :(grr and my morning is off to a crappy start.
Called a few places and got quotes and estimates. Pioneer seemed reasonable. A nice guy named Jose came out and assessed the situation. He said a repair on the cords would save some money, not necessary to replace the entire vertical blind system. I really respect that kind of honesty. Same day service? yeah, more like same hour service. Barely any time passed between my initial call, appointment, and the completion of the job.
I had some furniture and other items in the way; he gingerly moved everything aside and worked quickly and quietly. Aside from a big ladder and a few noises, hardly even noticed he was there. Result: I am no longer frowny face because i found a super stealthy ninja acrobat blinds repairman. the job cost less than originally estimated. the job was done quickly, efficiently, and by friendly staff. An added bonus: You know that Mike Diamond commercial on the radio where they promise the plumber will show up on time and smell nice? My guess is they got the idea from the Pioneer guys.

Compared to other window screen companies in the area, at least these guys returned phone calls and showed up on time for appointments. So for that reason I have no major complaints and am reasonably happy with the work they did. The screens look decent after being installed. They measured windows wrong for the first time and had to re-​measure and come to my house again, which was not ideal but for the second time they tried to adjust the appointment time so I didn’t have to leave work early again for this. In short, not perfect work but they tried to make it work and things worked out at the end. I’ll go to them again if I need similar work done for sure.

While the service with Jerry and team leading up to the purchase was exemplary, I find that the product that I paid thousands of dollars for is just nice, and equal in quality to what I had purchased through 3 Day for half the price in my old house.
The hardware looks awful, it’s like a cheapy metal bracket. I asked if they could change them to white so that it wasn’t so shiney and prominent but they said no go. I know my mother has the white brackets and they look much nicer. The pull cord is made of cheap plastic beads.
In all, I seriously have buyers remorse and can’t do much about it.

I selected Pioneer after reading the reviews on Unilocal and making calls to other window screen companies. Pioneer had the best price and excellent service. Jose came out to do the measurements. He was very personable and didn’t push me to buy anything I didn’t need. He even went the extra mile to do something special.
Everyone I spoke with over the phone gave me that old-​fashioned, family operated service that’s hard to find these days. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY I highly recommend PIoneer and Santa Monica Screen and Shades! We first bought shades from them in 2009 and we are repeat customers.
They have great products, reasonable prices, great customer service and detailed installation. I appreciate and want to send out a «shout out» Jose for being such a great installer, He really has done an incredible job installing all our shades.
On a personal note, the owner Jerry Karp is great guy who prides himself in making sure his customers are happy and it is the reason we have come back time after time. We like that Jerry also has a sense of design and to top it off he would not sell us anything that we did not need. If you work directly with the owner I guarantee he will do what he can to get you the best deal. I would recommend anyone to work with this company. Don’t go anywhere else or you will be sorry!
