Phantom Food Truck

Total waste of money. $ 13 got me two tiny «lobster» tacos and 4 gyoza. The tacos were ice cold and reeked of old seafood. Whether or not it was actually lobster was questionable. Also questionable was the mystery meat inside of the gyoza, which were triple fried and lacking flavor. I took one bite of each, threw everything away and went elsewhere.

I had Rose Milk Tea with Boba and they had put all the sugar they had in it. It didn’t have even a hint of rose. It was so sweet I had to throw away all of it. $ 6 ripped off.

We tried their lobster dynamite tacos and shrimp curry w/​noodles at Street Food Cinema in Expo Park. Phenomenal food!

Tried their food at a food truck festival event held around the winchester area. I had the pleasure of trying the Peking Duck Melt and It was very delicious. It had just the right amount of flavor with the hoisin sauce, green onions mixed together with the duck. This is my first time trying duck too, & they definitely gave me a good experience.

Quite possibly the worst food truck I’ve ever experienced. I tried the Peking Duck fries and they were all around awful. The duck was very fatty — hardly any meat for the price I paid. The sauce was overly sweet and overpowered everything. The fries were cold and chewy. The service was insanely slow since they only had one window for both taking orders and giving them out. I waited in line for such a long time expecting somewhat decent food and was left extremely disappointed. DO NOT GO.

Phantom came to a university held event tonight, and I was glad I stopped by this truck in time before food started running out.
The ONLY thing they had left was duck fries. And I’m so happy that’s what was left.
SO GOOD. Actual PEKING STYLE ROAST DUCK pieces on top of SKINNY CRISPY FRIES and topped with hoisin sauce and julienned green onions. I CANNOT. The meat was so tender and the skin was actually crispy and juicy.
The wait was WAY TOO LONG but I’m pretty sure that’s because they had issues with being unable to accept money (only redeemed tokens accepted during this event) and running out of food way in advance.
However, they explained that the truck comes frequently to USC, so I WILL BE BACK (to try the other items, plus the duck fries again!)

I had the pleasure of trying the Peking duck tacos and the Peking duck fries. I’m usually not a fan of fusion foods, as I prefer cuisine to be authentic, but the Peking duck and duck sauce was AMAZING wrapped in a corn tortilla.
The taco order comes with two tacos, so I tried one the way they made it at the suggestion of the owner, and tried the other with Sriracha hot sauce. I definitely suggest doing this! I can’t decide which style I prefer since they were both

PEKING DUCK TACOS!!!
I am a native of Beijing and there is nothing else I love more than Peking Duck. So when I found this truck at First Fridays in Venice I HAD to try to Peking Duck. I had a super difficult time deciding between peking duck tacos and peking duck fries and decided to go with the tacos! BEST DECISION EVER. Well, I don’t really know because I haven’t tried to fries yet but you bet I will try them next time!
So, the tacos were AMAZING. Thinking about them makes me drool. The hoison sauce perfectly drizzled on the duck and the mix of green onion. It literally send me to a journey back to my homeland. Whoever came up with the idea is AMAZING.
So you bet I will follow this food truck around to get myself more peking duck tacos and I will definitely try the fries next time as well.
$ 6 for two tacos is not too bad.
Also, the asian lady that worked for the truck and taking orders was really friendly.
TRY IT PLEASE! YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Anyway it was slow night for the truck I guess because we got to talk to the lady there and she recommended it to us. 3 Hungry guys gobbling down some duck fries and moving on. I’m going to have to try something new next time I see them. We were on a flavor hunt so there was only time to taste a little bit of everything.

I had the garlic parmesan fries for the 2^nd time at 626 Night Market today, DE-​LI-​CIOUS. You MUST try this is you’re a garlic lover like me.
Also ordered the duck melt and peach black tea. Duck melt had plenty of savory duck, and the hoisin sauce topped it off with the perfect amount of asian flavor. Peach black tea was so good that I came back later that night after watching the performances for another cup. They got my friend’s and my food out very quickly… good if you’re in a rush to watch Joseph Vincent ;)
Definetely check this truck out. I even liked them on facebook so I could stalk them to get some more of their asian fusion selection. Can’t get enough!

Friendly service and a nice variety of food! The Asian-​fusion food is full of flavor. Their JuDu tacos are delicious!
Drinks aren’t overly sweet; it’s a good amount of sweet!

I ordered the duck melt and got my receipt sent to my email.
The duck melt was pretty good. It was fresh and the food melted in my mouth. The shrimp tacos were pretty bomb too.

Eh. Not good.
I figured it was about time to check out some of the food trucks that park by my work at lunch time, and Phantom was my first stop.
I ordered the shrimp dynamite taco and a peking duck taco (
). You actually get two tacos per order, and each order is $ 4-​$ 5. I’d say each taco has an ounce of meat on standard 3-​inch tortillas. No, it’s not worth the price but it’s not as much of a rip-​off as other food trucks are.
Shrimp Dynamite (
): Not sure what was dynamite about them. I asked for them spicy but there was zero heat. The shrimpies (3 little guys per taco) were cooked well and I enjoyed the grilled mushrooms and cheap caviar. The «dynamite sauce» was basically mayo. 3 stars.
Peking Duck (
): Boo. The picture shows lots of duck and a little cabbage, but mine was a lot of bok choy and a little duck, most of which was just skin and fat. I know peking duck is not the leanest stuff on earth but isn’t it reasonable to expect some meat on the breast? Too much hoisin sauce. I had one real bite, fished through the duck for some leaner shreds, and quickly threw the plate away. 1 star.
Wait time was long since there was only one person running the truck. Oh, and my food was cold.

ASIAN FUSION!!! That saids it all!
I don’t understand what others are saying about this truck. The price is reasonable and the portions are just right.
My favorite dish has to be the shrimp dynamite tacos, the duck fries, and duck melt.
The workers are great and they try to cater to your request. For example, if you have allergies or don’t want a certain ingredient in your dish, just let them know and they will try their best to make it for you. Now, don’t go trying to take advantage of the workers, like saying you want Judo (pork belly) tacos without the fat. COME ON!
To the other reviewers about this truck:
1) They do not have anything on their menu that is over $ 10.
2) Their portions/​ratio is fine. Don’t just eat all the toppings on the fries and complain about not having enough meat! They are not going to give you a bowl of meat to cover your fries! If you just want duck meat, then go order a WHOLE duck somewhere else!
3) Nothing on their truck saids that they serve BAO!
4) Long wait? Seriously? Please consider the event they are at and if there are previous orders before you. Some customers just LOVE to customize their orders.
5) THEY ARE NOT KOREAN! THIS IS NOT A KOREAN TRUCK! It’s Shanghai and Hong Kong based. That’s why it’s on a corn tortilla. Hence, ASIAN FUSION!

This place sounds good and looks great on paper but I have a couple concerns that I think you may want to know. I’d like to start off by saying I ordered the JuDu Taco and the Peking Duck Taco. Each order gives you two decent-​sized tacos on a tortilla. (So if you’re hoping for a bao bread, that’s not what happens here).
JuDu Taco– It’s pork belly, and it’s hard to mess up pork belly. It was a bit too saucy, and the pork belly wasn’t very quality. I don’t know how they cook it, but it was a tad too spongy even for my taste. If they toned down the sauce a little, it may have a chance.
Peking Duck Taco– I love duck nearly as much as I love pork belly. This one wasn’t saucy (yay), but it was a bit cold which didn’t sit well with the texture of the meat.
Meh, it’s really not good for the price you’re paying for a food truck. Essentially, it’s trying to rock something cool and tasty, but it doesn’t sit well in the belly and it is overall a tad disappointing.

I had the chance to try this food truck when they were at the 626 Night Market at the Santa Anita Race Track this past weekend. After all the hype I’ve been hearing about this place, I honestly expected a little more, but the food was just ‘A-​OK’.
I tried my luck with their Peking Duck Fries, because of a recommendation from the lady working that day. The fries/​duck combo was actually really delicious, but the reason I would say that it’s not that great are:
1. Long wait (I waited around 20 minutes, after putting my order in, which kind of sucks for a food truck: X)
2. Horrible Duck/​Fries ratio, by the time I had finished all the duck, I had like 90% of the fries left =[.
3. Expensive. For the price I was paying, I would’ve expected way more duck meat, or at least a better ratio.
The food ended up being okay, I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to look for the truck but it was a good snack at the time!

WAAAY too overpriced. Way way way way too overpriced.
My boyfriend ordered the duck melt and I ordered the medium pork belly fries. Total $ 20.
To make it worse the flavors weren’t there. The duck melt tasted just as normal as grilled cheese sandwich you’d make in college. The fact that it was duck meat made little difference. Nothing in the flavor could distinguish it from any other meat so the surplus you are charged for it being duck meat is moot.
The pork belly fries are slathered in an overly sweet sauce. The 5 spice did nothing to help bring out the succulent pork belly flavor and covered up any flavor the meat had to offer. The fries themselves had nothing great to offer. They are equivalent to McDonald fries. In which case would have been a better deal since that would have saved me a lot more money.
While the service is friendly the flavors and quality are not there. I stopped here during the Art Walk because the lines for all the other food trucks were insanely long. I should have just waited in line.

I will definitely be going back for the wings again. I got mild and they were slightly spicy. She gave me cayenne pepper sauce and siracha on the side in case I wanted it, but they tasted great as is. The mild wings are fried and are slightly less spicy as the wings you get in the hot deli food section of Albertsons or Ralphs, just super fresh and the meat almost falls off!

I didn’t know what they had until the Peking duck fries caught my eyes as I was standing in line for the Kogi truck; there was no line for phantom so we figure we’d get it as a snack while we waiting in line for other trucks. So I had my bf go order the Peking duck taco and pork belly taco. They were both really good. I dare to say I enjoyed these tacos a little bit more than the Kogi tacos and quesadilla I had right after. This has become one of my top favorite trucks after trying their food. The Peking duck taco was delicious (I am a fan of everything Peking duck) and their pork belly taco was marinated in some kind of sweet sauce and I really enjoyed that as well. I will definitely order food from this truck again when I see it. Gotta start following them on twitter ;)
