Haven’t heard anything about Peppys coming back but a couple of the cooks and wait staff are now working at Coppelia’s, 10825 Venice blvd. they are open for breakfast and lunch with some of the same menu as Peppy’s. The food was good and we got a friendly greeting from Ernie and 2 of Peppy’s former waitresses.

Just heard that Pepys is returning to Bowlero. Not sure what the timeline is. Prices will certainly be higher, and the atmosphere will be different, but I’m still excited they’re coming back.

Sep 2014 I just heard that roll and rye is closing. I always wondered how they stayed open. Location on Jefferson near target and pavilions. This might be a great location for peppys to take over. Close enough for us to once again get good food from them I hope roll and rye is indeed closing and I hope Pepys can look at this space. Good walk in area. Close to enough businesses for lunch business. Close to lots of homes for dinner business too. I don’t know how to reach peppys direct.

I’m so sad this place is gone. I wanted to write a review for it anyway… D & I would come to this place at least a couple of times a month. If not once a week. I love the family-oriented atmosphere, the friendliness of the servers, that you can take your time if your want, or be in and out if you need. Loved the french toast. In fact, loved all the breakfast platters — so much food, and such a good price! Loved it all and miss it. Went on Monday, June 30, but they had already closed… so sad.

I just had the BEST American breakfast here. Sadly it will be my last one after coming here for 10 years. The food was great and the servers really were one of the reasons I kept coming here. They are friendly, gracious people whom worked very hard to make this place what it was. Unfortunately many of them will now be out of work. The one I don’t feel the least bit sorry for is the mustached, arrogant, Mario bros. racist prick at the host stand. Him, I’m GLAD to see go. I’m giving it 5 stars for everything but the pompous bobble head w/the ugly moustache. He gets my foot in his ass. Thanks for the memories…

At 9 am on June 19th i was running late for work… and decided to stop at this dinner since I saw it was crowded. I order the«Hawaiian Breakfast» what a joke that was… I know Hawaiian and this was not hawaiian! A plate with cold bland white rice and scramble eggs with broccoli peas, and sausage! who in their right mind associates broccoli & peas with being Hawaiian! The only flavor found was in the sausage… and staff handling food do not use gloves saw a man carrying out dirty dishes then touching bread from the toaster and putting butter on it… I mean yuck! I am never going there again… All I can say is Aloha!

**Tomorrow, 6÷10÷14 — Tuesday evening at Mar Vista Park(McLaughlin and Palms) there is a Rally to SAVEPEPY“s! I tried to sign the petition but it is too late — all I can say is Pepy has a guaranteed ticket into heaven for making all those people happy over the years. Big portions, tasty food, great prices and lightning service. Regarding the idiocy of retro-gentrification, read Criss S.‘s review. Sums it up perfectly. Now if I want a decent chili omelette in this town I have to go to Hinanos, get the chili and make it myself the next morning. I don’t know if gentrification can be stopped, but the fact is every major city but LA takes care of its landmarks. Just go to San Francisco and see for yourself. Oh, and I’m really looking forward to seeing all the douchbag patrons who like dayglo bowling descend on Mar Vista. Hot damn. So I will raise a glass to Pepy’s tonight while watching the LA Kings beat the snot out of NY one more time… Pompus out!

Been loving Pepy’s Galley since I was a wee lad in the 70’s. From what I hear, the new owners(bowlmor) want to «renovate» the MV Bowl into a «Retro» Bowling alley that harkens back to the days of your Grandfather!!! Almost had me going there for a second… What…for reelz… the new owners wanna tear down an ORIGINAL bowling alley that my Grandfather actually bowled at to build a «Retro» facsimile of the bowling experience!!! Why not add Mini-golf. and Skee-Ball machines that reward us with enough tickets to redeem for a nifty six-inch ruler. Just wondering what planner for Bowlmor decided and set forth company standards that changing demographics(Young Upwardly Mobile Transplants to large cities) need a built-in(Retro) experience? .See what happens when some communities have little or no choices about where to relax and spend their money. 5 Stars for the Food. 5 Stars for the Service. 5 stars for the Millie the hot Latina waitress(secret crush) 5 Stars for being real and nothing fancy ’nuff said.

Pepy’s Galley and Phil Yoakum’s Pro Shop have been ordered to vacate Mar Vista Lanes by June 30 so owner Bowlmor AMF Corp. can make way for a more high-end, hip lounge and restaurant, say some Westside media. Among supporters of a petition to save the diner is L.A. City Councilman Mike Bonin, who appeared before about 50 Pepe’s devotees at a May 25 «Rally for the Galley.» «We can’t legally require the owners to keep Pepy’s,» said Bonin in an earlier statement, «but we sure can show them how integral the restaurant is to the community and try to convince them that keeping Pepy’s will be good for their business model.» Bowlmor AMFCEO Tom Shannon issued a statement circulated around the rally, saying the lanes will be closing to «upgrade and modernize the building.» He rejected claims that the venue’s future is a haven for the 1 per cent of bowlers, drinkers and diners. «We are not converting the property to a nightclub type of bowling alley,» said Shannon. «It will remain a somewhat traditional, although very nice, family friendly bowling center.» Formed by the July 2013 merger of Strike Holdings LLC(Bowlmor Lanes) and the bankrupt AMF Corp., Bowlmor AMF’s master plan is seen by Moody’s Investors Service as courting«the higher-margin casual bowler or open-play customer” – forsaking league bowlers – and providing upscale foodservice and«other entertainment offerings.» My party of five, three of whom were visiting from San Francisco and weren’t expecting the mini-maelstrom on the corner outside Pepy’s, had a late lunch there, followed by one game of bowling. The outing was enjoyed by all, but my visitors will recall it as a once-in-a-lifetime encounter at the old Mar Vista Bowl.

SAVEPEPY’S!!! My husband and I eat at Pepy’s at least once per week, and it is our absolute favorite place to enjoy breakfast on the weekend. The atmosphere is what makes Pepy’s great. There are lots of regular customers that have been eating at Pepy’s for decades, and then there are those of us that have been eating there every week for 3 years. Either way, Pepy makes you feel like part of the family. He introduces his regulars to each other, and while we come to enjoy the food, we also come to enjoy the customer service and the company. Pepy knows us by name. His son, Joel, and other staff know us by name. They know our favorite food. They know what has been going on in our lives. They laugh with us. They cry with us. They were there for us when we got engaged, when we got married, and for our anniversary. Whenever something big happens in our lives, we look forward to letting Pepy and his staff know! They always greet us with a smile. On our birthdays, they also greet us with a wonderful song. Another wonderful personal touch that we love is that Pepy is there every day of the week. He takes great pride in his food, his restaurant, and in his customer service. Please save Pepy’s! The food is amazing, and there is no other place like it in all of Los Angeles. You want a greasy spoon? Well this spoon is the greasiest and nummiest. Tucked inside an ancient bowling alley, the minute you walk into this little diner, you feel like you’ve stepped into some kitschy sitcom where the wait staff all have larger-than-life personalities and the owner(yes, he’s Pepy) mans the cashier register like he’s helming a ship. Locals love it here and the captain greets them all warmly. Portions are large and the price is cheap, but it’s CASHONLY. And talk about an eclectic clientele: from truck drivers, to cops, to yuppies, to wanna-be starlets, to large Mexican families. EVERYONE eats here and smiles. As soon as we sat down, we got two cups of piping hot coffee without even asking. I had the chorizo patties and eggs, and they were just FAB. Comes with a lot of(crunchy on top and soft in the middle) hashbrowns and buttered toast. The hubster got the corned-beef hash(because I wanted it too, we simply shared cuz we’re GENIUSES), and we had one perfect buttery blueberry pancake. AWW, YEAH! All this for a measly $ 22! Where can you get that(especially in the west side) these days? I want to come here so often that Pepy will greet us by name and when we sit down, the waitress will already know that we want our regular. But since we’re on a healthier lifestyle kick these days, this probably ain’t gonna happen anytime soon. But this girl can dream, can’t she? Mmmmm, hash-brown and pancake dreams.. .

Here today for lunch again with friend and Unilocaler Aubrey G. What a great find. Great little diner on the Westside. Owner there everyday on site and the difference he makes shows. I ordered the club today on toasted wheat and it was great. Added a photo. Will be back for sure. Plenty of parking in a large private lot attached to the bowling alley and additional parking across Grand View Blvd. just West of the location. This place gets a little crowded so get here by 1130ish for lunch if you plan on finding a seat for more than one person easy. Also, important, this is a cash only diner.

Awesome neighborhood diner. I’m so glad they exist. I’ve only stopped in for breakfast a couple of times(both times seated at the bar). Service is friendly, and the price is right. I’ve typically gone for the usual breakfast items — eggs, sausage, potatoes. Can’t go wrong. They cook it to order, and the portions are good. It’s definitely a no-frills, neighborhood-y place. Not fancy or heavy on the décor, but hey, every neighborhood needs a quality, cheap, mom & pop diner. I need to stop in for lunch and dinner soon to try out their other menu items!

This café/diner is pretty small and very old school, a throwback to the past. We really came to bowl but on a Sunday afternoon it’s $ 20 per person for a 2 hour minimum with rentals included. A bit steep so I wanted to check out this diner. I wasn’t that hungry so opted for a hot tea at $ 1.95 and the hot chocolate at the same price. Not sure I would be back, the parking lot is pretty small and curious how good the food actually is. Ambiance matters to me a lot, sometimes more than the food, so this place might be a bit a stretch for me to re-visit.

Best kept secret of deliciousness on the Westside! Pepy’s Galley is a coffee shop hidden in the burrows of a bowling alley. To get in, you will have to cut through the bowling alley and head to the very back, to which you discover that every table is taken by locals who’ve been coming here for years.(P.S. Overflow sits in the bowling alley) The food is your typical diner type cuisine, complete with the most perfect, crispy-on-the-outside hashed browns. As for me, when I’m eating healthy, I find that that the veggies they stuff into my egg white veggie omelette were all freshly cut — nothing frozen or from the can here! Oh and the price? SO very nice — borderline ridiculous nice.(CASHONLY) Trivia: Showtime’s Ray Donovan shot a scene in this diner! Season One episode 3.

I looooove old diners, and bowling alley food. After a disappointing meal at the AMF Bay Shore Lanes diner, I came here last night. We arrived at 8PM on a Sunday to a packed restaurant. I was starving and we just planned to get some appetizers to take back to the lanes. Nothing on the appetizer menu was over $ 6. Nothing! We went extra fatass and ordered the chili cheese fries, nachos, fried jalapeño poppers, and 2 sides of sour cream(don’t judge me). Plus a drink, everything totaled $ 16. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes and was amaaaazing. Not gastropub or trendy food, but quality-made comforting diner food that was perfect while we bowled. The nachos and fries had generous amounts of meat, and was way too much for us to finish. I’ll definitely be back!

I love everything about this place. I love that the décor is older and that the place hasn’t changed much since it first opened. I love that it is next to/inside the bowling alley. I love everything on the menu. I love that it is a family owned restaurant and there are tons of people who have been coming to Pepy’s since they were young. Generations of families come to eat breakfast at Pepy’s. With that said, I love that the food is simple but full of flavor. I especially love the country fried steak and eggs. It is perfection. The multiwheat grain(the healthy sounding one) pancakes are also delicious! I never opt for healthier options because I think it would taste bad, but the pancakes were flavorful and just as delicious as regular ones. The chili is also amazing. I always order it with my meals and it is very very delicious. You get a good sized meal with amazing flavor for an extremely low/reasonable price. It is worth the wait(there are longer lines on the weekends) and you will not be disappointed! ps. CASHONLY!

Located in a small bowling alley in Venice, Pepy’s Gallery is a cute little 1950’s diner that serves up some home-cooked meals. There are about 15 tables and 15 stools at the counter, and this place is jam packed! There always is a line here! You can expect to wait 10 – 15 minutes+ for a table if you come during normal business hours. It’s worth the wait! The menu reflects the typical diner kind of foods(turkey sandwiches, burgers, etc), but the owner also offers Mexican food — Menudo, carne asada, etc. Fun to choose among so many offerings! I ordered the Liver & Onions for my late lunch. I eat this dish about 1x every 10 years, but decided to order it because I felt it kinda matched the restaurant. Within minutes, the dish arrived with a heaping serving of french fries(choice of mashed, fries, rice, et), boiled peas, grilled onions, and two large pieces of grilled liver. After taking about four bites of this dish, I was done because I realized that my taste buds have outgrown this dish. It was delicious, but no subsitute for foie gras! Hah! Grade: B+ The best thing about this experience was the customer service. Here, everyone is a friend and they treat everyone with respect! Tons of coffee flowing everywhere and the customer service is the only thing that is oozing out more than the creamer! Next time, I’m ordering the menudo(served Sat & Sun). Food Grade: B Service Grade: A! Worth the Money Grade: A! Overall Impression A-!

I woke up on Saturday and I just didn’t feel like cooking breakfast. I remembered bookmarking Pepy’s on Unilocal and decided to try it out. I knew it was in a bowling alley, but I still felt weird entering the dated bowling alley. I saw the«Coffee Shop» sign down at the end and walked past a couple birthday parties. When we entered I was surprised at how cozy the place was. Pepy, the owner was right at the register with a big smile on his face to greet us. We put our name down and only had a 5 minute wait. We got a good table right next to a window and had a pleasant view of the street. I wanted to get something that I wouldn’t usually pick, so I opted to try the Eggs Ranchero. This plate did not disappoint. It was an english muffin with a ham slab on top, two perfect poached egg pillows, and topped with spanish sauce. The eggs oozed with runny yolk and mixed in with the spanish sauce. Delicious! The sauce was a bit salty, but not enough to ruin the plate. My plate did come with hash browns, but I wish they were crispy on the outside. My boyfriend got the Bacon Pan with french toast. He let me nibble one of his slices. It was crispy on some parts and gooey and soft in the center. Yum! The bacon was nice and crispy. I do hate soggy bacon. Our meal came out to $ 20 including tip. Not bad! Extremely friendly owner, good food, locals, and with a location in close proximity to my place, I will be a returning customer.

A complete gem within the bowling alley. The Chilaquiles plate was deeeeelicious, and enough for two people to split. Pepy sat us at a table himself, and was very«peppy»! My friends and I sat at a table in the bowling alley, and it was actually very entertaining to people-watch while we ate our breakfast :) I will definitely be back when I’m in the area!
