One Down Dog

I love One Down Dog. Brianna’s Tuesday night FLOW class speaks to my soul.

I have been attending One Down Dog yoga classes for a year now and it’s beginning to feel like a home away from home. I love the community feel and the happy, relaxed attitude of the studio. Here’s a breakdown of my favorite teachers:
— I love taking Cindy’s sweat classes as I get my butt kicked and her hip hop playlists are really motivating.
— I love taking Ducky’s flow classes to work the abs, while laughing at her hilarious jokes.
— I love taking Brianna’s flow classes as her sequences seem both soothing and challenging.
— I love taking Courtney’s flow classes as she sets intentions for each class which really helps me get through the class mindfully.
The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. I intend to stay as a frequent yogi at One Down Dog, and I recommend this studio for anyone that wants to do yoga in a fun environment.

The review is only for their WORKSHOP.
I had purchased $ 25 for the arm balance workshop. On the website, it specified that the workshop had only 15 spots. I was immediately interested due to the small group for the workshop and had hope to get better understanding in working into arm balancing poses.
Upon arriving early (about 15 minutes prior to the workshop), I was shocked to see that the class was completely packed and crowded. I was only able to find space at the rear of the classroom.
It turned out that the workshop was also part of their teacher training. So the room was filled up with trainees as well as the paid participants for the workshop.
The instructor was never able to get to the rear of the room to provide demonstration and instruction. There were simply too many participants in the class. For the many of us in the back, we could not see or hear the instructor as she was guiding us through the poses.
I was truly disappointed and am confident to say that I will NOT be participating their workshops ever again. I will inform other ODD members about their workshops. It was deceiving to advertise the workshop to be limited 15 spots. It was dishonest and misleading. Participants only pay extra ($ 25 in this case) so we could have a more personalized experience.
I had high expectations for the workshop but came out feeling very prevaricated. I guess my $ 25 was not a complete waste because I learnt to never attend one again.

I stumbled upon One Down Dog a few months after moving to LA and it’s becoming an integral part of my daily life here. A few reasons why I love it:
— It gives me a community that’s hard to come by because I work from home. I’ve met some amazing people here
— AMAZING TEACHERS. All a bit different, all great
— Full spectrum workout. As long as I take a few «sweat» classes a week, I feel no need to join a gym.
— It’s AFFORDABLE. I’m on a super tight budget and this is the only studio I’ve found that is top quality AND affordable

I have nothing but praises to sing for One Down Dog.
Teachers are amazing! Parking is a breeze ($ 1 valet with validation or street parking on the neighboring blocks)! So many classes to choose from! And, you can check out their Eagle Rock location for free with membership!
Its true, a daily yoga practice can change your life — I know it changed mine! A new outlook and approach on life, for sure.
Its the first yoga studio that I checked out upon moving to LA, and it just might well be my last. Check it out!

My favorite yoga studio in LA. By far. I’ve been to around 15 other studios. The vibe, the people, the classes — it is just all exactly what I want in a yoga studio.
Also, Cyndi is awesome. Take her classes.

I took a «chill» class here tonight and I can’t quite put my finger on it but this was just my least favorite yoga studio of the several that I’ve visited in the past month or so via classpass.
Pros:
* $ 1 valet with validation
* in a strip mall so easy to access
* friendly employees
* affordable payment options
Cons:
* I don’t know, something about the sequencing just wasn’t relaxing and felt very off to me. The instructor spoke the absolute entire time so it was kind of hard to relax into any poses.
* the studio is very large and the instructor only showed about two of the moves. She tried to fix people’s form as she walked around, but obviously, given the size of the class, she couldn’t get to everyone for each position. It was hard to know whether you were doing anything right because everyone was doing it differently and her instructions were confusing for a large portion of the class. Given that breath is such an integral part of yoga practice, it was really frustrating for me that she would verbally describe these entire movement and breath practices, which made things seem a lot more complicated than they were, and on top of that there would be layered in additional explanatory information. Ultimately, I think there was just too much dialogue in the class for me to the point where I felt most of the moves were over-​explained and over-​complicated with the result being that it was hard to focus on what I was supposed to be doing.
To be perfectly honest, I couldn’t wait to get out, and that’s never how I feel after a yoga class elsewhere. The class was full and the overall reviews are great, so this place clearly has its fans, but I’m just not among them.

No complaints. I love each instructor equally, each have their own vibe and I can’t decide which one of them I love more. Oh and yes, it’s changed my life! Keep it up! Good vibes.

This studio will welcome you with open arms, pick you up when you are down and then turn your mat into a dance floor and celebrate life with you!
Affordable prices, ample parking in lot/​street parking, incredible retail selection and that’s all even before you step onto your mat. The ladies at the front desk will remember your name and make sure you feel welcome from the first time you take a class. The two studios are adorned with the coolest murals, and the teachers bump the best jams. Did I mention that the AMAZING owner, Jess, teaches class with her incredibly well behaved dog in the studio? You can get down with a dog in down dog. This is heaven for those of us dog lovers!
I can’t say enough about the incredible instructors at this studio. Alexis is my hero and you should absolutely take one of her sculpt/​sweat classes before you die. You’ll never be prouder of yourself afterwards! Adam shakes up the flow with unique and interesting sequences that keep me coming back for more and his meditation class is excellent. Courtney’s classes are always dripping with intention and leave you excited to take your practice off the mat and into real life when you leave. I could go on forever, just trust me — these teachers are top notch.
Honestly, I believe ODD came into my life at a time I needed it most (Via an awesome groupon BTW) and I can’t picture my life in LA without it. This homegrown studio has become my home away from home and I look forward to sharing it with as many people as I can. Everyone should get the chance to feel the love at this studio, I sure am glad I did.

Such a great relaxing space. The instructor was so good and I felt super duper relaxed and stretched after! Would most def go back and recommend to a friend.

This yoga studio has CHANGED MY LIFE. I am not even kidding. I know these sayings get thrown around often: «oh yoga it’s changed my life…» or «oh em geee yoga saved me»… But I am not even joking — Yoga has most definitely changed my life and saved me! I give all the thanks, love, gratitude and support to ONE DOWN DOG!
I have not been an avid yogi for the 5 years I have lived out here. It wasn’t until I had gotten let go from my 9 – 6 job and was now free to experience life at any given time of the day that I stumbled upon One Down Dog. I figured with all of this anxiety I had building up inside of me and this newly emerged free time that was just handed to me, that I could give yoga a shot.
Well… 7 months later and I am a full on yogi in the making! Not only have I had the most positive experience there BUT all of the teachers, classes, fellow yogis, apparel and atmosphere have all helped improve my lifestyle more than they know. I give so much thanks and gratitude to my favorite teachers: Molly, Emily, Adam, Cindy, Mark — for giving me the strength, knowledge, endurance, gratitude, balance, healing, courage — to trust my inner self that I can challenge myself and by doing so improving my life with just the simple task of #showinguptomymat.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ONE DOWN DOG to anyone who is: serious about their yoga practice, interested in learning more on yoga, wanting to sweat and strengthen your body, looking for that release.

After yoga hopping for two and a half years, I finally found a studio that fits my needs, in the most unassuming of atmospheres.
One Down Dog has a great introductory rate, offers a wide range of classes (including restorative, cardio, flow, fast-​paced dance classes, and even classes that focus on inversions and strength building specifically), a decent schedule for freelancers and 9 – 5’ers alike, and they really work to keep their customers coming back.
I am not an exceptional yogi, but I am really proud of the changes I have made to my body over the last year and a half. Go to Alexis’ strong class, Courtney’s new class, anything Ducky teaches and meditate with Adam.
You won’t get bored and they will remember your name, and that means a hell of a lot.

I started coming to One Down Dog last year, when I was healing from recurring back injury. My physical therapist had recommended yoga, and lo and behold, the yoga studio nearest me was offering a class, aptly named «Back,» entirely dedicated to practitioners with chronic back problems!
I was pretty much immediately hooked. After starting with the gentle «Back» classes, which taught me how to move through poses without over-​stressing my back and simultaneously strengthening my core muscles, I moved on to «Chill» classes, in which I could work on basic flexibility and some fundamental muscle strength without pushing myself too hard. From there, I moved on to «Flow» classes, and eventually graduated to the more hardcore «Sculpt» and «Sweat» classes. The variety of classes offered means you have options depending on where your body or mind is that day — maybe you need to take it easy, or maybe you want to push yourself. There’s a class for you no matter your mood.
The instructors are, across the board, incredible. It does take some time, however, to figure out which instructors work best with your own style/​approach to yoga. My personal favorites are Bobbi and Adam, who are always patient and encouraging, always happy to help you modify a pose, and whose soothing voices and instruction always help calm my mind. Courtney’s «New» classes are a must, a great way to return to the basics and spend some time really finessing your fundamental poses. If you really want your butt kicked, go to Alexis’s early morning «Sculpt» classes, or any of Jessica’s «Sweat» ones. Ducky Punch will also encourage you to try new things in her «Flow» classes; whenever I go, I wind up trying a pose I’ve never seen before and would never have thought I could pull off (well, I can pull a simpler, modified version off — but that still counts!).
TL;DR: great studio, tons of class options, knowledgable, patient and supportive teachers, yay ODD!

My friend introduced me to One Down Dog. I signed up for the new student deal which was unlimited classes for $ 40. Considering that a drop in class is $ 20, this is a great deal! I look flow, chill, sweat, and buti all with different teacher. My favorite class was sweat with Ducki. She’s awesome. The class was challenging but not to the point where I felt like I couldn’t do it. I also really enjoyed Buit with Karen. I took my first ever BUTI class here and had a a blast. Its a energetic, dancey type yoga that flows and gets you grooving to the musicI visted both the Silver Lake and Eagle Rock location with my membership so there was always a class for me to take.

I’ve gone to a few classes here, and I really enjoy the studio. Parking always seems a bit chaotic, so I usually walk or park at a meter on Sunset. The staff at the front desk is friendly. You slip your shoes off before entering the yoga room, and there are cubbies in the room for your things. I’ve gone to the sweat, sculpt and restore classes. I enjoyed all of them, and they really all have different purposes. Sweat moved quicker than regular yoga, which helped get the heartbeat going. Sculpt included more cardio and strength training exercises, and restore was very relaxing and soothing. The studio in general doesn’t have a ton of frills, but the yoga room itself is large, clean and inviting. They have plenty of props, and the music is always great.

I could seriously write a book about all the great experiences I’ve had w/​ODD, so I’ll try and make this concise. I had tried various yoga styles with various teachers & studios across the country and had never really stuck with it because I would have such irritating, lackluster or downright bizarre experiences. Then in July 2014 I bought a groupon for ODD to give it another try.
My first class was a ‘Chill’ class with Bobbi, who I have recommended again and again to people who are interested in yoga but don’t know where to begin. She has a very warm and open personality, which immediately put me at ease. She’s very helpful in showing poses and making adjustments for someone who is new. I’m pretty sure at one point I wobbled over and just started laughing, and I still felt 100% comfortable. I continued to take Chill classes for a few months until I felt like I had a better understanding of the different poses and flows, and then started to add Flow, and Flowdown classes into the mix.

Brianna’s ‘Flow’ class is when things really started to click for me and I felt like I understood what having a yoga *practice* was about. Attending class became more than just getting a workout in for me.
Molly is awesome and very technical– she has the best command of verbal cues. You could be an absolute beginner, and be blindfolded and you wouldn’t have any question as to what position you should be in. I’ve also had *a-​ha* moments with Molly based on how she speaks– things I always thought I had been doing correctly until she described something, tweaked my pose slightly and then it’s like… oh yes… now I get it!
Yoni (I like to call his classes the Yon-​Zone) brings a sense of humor and awesome playlists, and is the best at adjusting poses– not just once, but every single time you have your elbows bent wrong (I’m finally getting that right…)
There are teachers to suit every personality and classes are broad and cover every mood. Even the classes that aren’t necessarily my thing have been enjoyable and it’s been interesting figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t.
Sure, the classes are the ultimate reason you’re probably reading Unilocal reviews, but everyone who works the desk at ODD deserve huge props. It’s awesome that even as ODD has grown, everyone remembers your name and little details about your life, and always ask how you’re doing. That really makes all the difference in the world, and it’s especially important in a city like LA, where it is very easy to feel like an outsider or that you’re just another number.
Additionally, ODD has more to offer than the physical act of yoga. Workshops, Dance Parties, Clothing exchanges, and more. Jessica (the owner) led a workshop last January called Make Awesome Happen, which was super helpful and motivated me to well, make awesome things happen and push through road blocks and reach goals. I would seriously take this workshop every year, because it’s really easy to get comfortable and let motivation slip away.
Finally, where else can you sit around for an hour after class petting dogs with no judgement?

My favorite class– Sweat. Yes that’s a sweaty work out. It’s more of core exercises combined cleverly with basic yoga movements.

Recommended if you live in the area.

Brittany’s flow classes are creative and challenging and I often find myself getting to the next level there. Ellina’s classes are hard and you best do your homework. Brianna’s classes are dance-​y and perfectly fluid. Bobbi’s classes are accessible but she has the BEST music and is also creative with her sequencing.
I might cancel my Classpass membership and go full on family-​mode here, the classes and instructors are so good. We’ll see.

Ah, One Down — I love you!
I have been coming to this studio a little over six months since I moved to Silver Lake and I love it. I’ve been a member of two other studios previously and One Down is by far the best. I have limited exercise time, so when I do show up, I want to work and burn some serious calories. One Down does not disappoint. Many of their classes are high energy, cardio-​based workouts.
Vibe: Empowering, fun, non-​judgmental.
Best Class: Sweat at 11:00am on Saturday. Jessica, the owner, teaches it and it is awesome! Such great energy, and indeed you will sweat out half your body weight. This isn’t lightweight sh*t. Bring ice water and a wet towel and be ready to work. Oh, and vibe wise, think «Total Eclipse of the Heart» during hip openers. In Jess’s words: «Dance Party right now. Permission Granted.»
Best Teachers: Jessica (Sweat), Ducky (Flow) and Alexis (Sculpt).
Staff: Great. All friendly (not to mention beautiful… but this is yoga, so duh).
Tech Extra: One Down has their own iphone and anroid app so you can easily view the weekly class offerings. They even have a blog with some class playlists posted!
Parking: Valet Parking for $ 1 with validation. I usually just find street parking behind the studio or right on Sunset, which isn’t too bad if you’re willing to walk a couple minutes.
Prices: I originally bought the Groupon — 20 classes for $ 82… STEAL. I had to use this within three months, so it was a great motivator. Towards the end of my three months, they offered me 20 classes plus two extra for $ 240, which comes out to $ 10.90 per class. Totally worth it. Take advantage of their promotions and this studio is one of the more affordable ones out there.
Other Highlights:
1. Late classes. I get off work pretty late and so I need a studio that schedules classes later in the evening. This studio has classes starting as late as 8:45pm for us career girls! Thank you!
2. Patrick is the studio’s mascot. He’s Jessica’s dog and he frequently joins us at the front of the class. Adorable.
3. They have a shop with super cute yoga clothes and often have a good sale section
Drawbacks:
1. Classes get crowded since One Down only has one class spaces. It’s big, but for popular classes (like Saturday morning Sweat), the room does fill up and I’ve seen latecomers be turned away. Get there 5 – 10 minutes early and you’re fine.
2. It gets pretty hot in the room, unless the open the big window/​doors that line one large wall. My advice is bring ice water and towel.
