On Sunset Restaurant

This used to be the quaintly dumpy Bel Air Sands in the 1980s. I went to a bar mitzvah and wedding both in that decade.
The Luxxe is quite nice, a step above the Hotel Angeleno but not super fancy. The lobby is really excellent and I was impressed by the restaurant’s dining room (as well as patio).
Service is a bit confused but fine. The miso cod itself was fine but the sauce was bland and too creamy. It didn’t even taste like a miso glaze but the fish was tender and well-​cooked.
My mother had the hanger steak sandwich. I loved it but it is VERY spicy, with julienned vegetables and green chiles along with prodigious quantities of cilantro. You either love or hate cilantro and I happen to love it but those with an aversion should steer clear of this sandwich. French fries were decent but not great.
The Chinese chicken salad is innovative and the veggies fresh.
Altogether I thought it was kind of nice tucked away place to eat in a central location right off the 405 and more low-​key than much in Brentwood. The crowd is fairly geriatric but there was a film conference (not AFI, but it’s somehow connected), so the crowd was slightly younger with people in their 40s walking around with badges.
I would return, particularly if I wanted to have a serious or important discussion without a lot of noise or people milling about.
Entrees at lunch all between 14 and 17, with a few specials 18 or 19.

Two Words: On Point
I am really surprised at the poor reviews. I really think this place is gorgeous. You feel luxurious when you walk in. I had a meeting with someone to talk about apps. Our server was accomodating and friendly. There was the host who seemed a bit angry. Anyway, I ordered the seared ahi tuna and I really wasn’t expecting much. But, this salad surprised me. The miso vinagrette tossed with the textured crunch of flax seeds, creamy avocado just made my mouth water. I found it difficult to keep up with the conversation.
I will definitely go here again on a sunny day.

Wow, I know most hotel food sucks but, dude, was this beyond horrible. Foodie snob aside, I really don’t recommend the dinner selection attempt.

My daughter and I attended a party here recently one Sunday and walked through the lovely Sunday brunch to get to the party. We decided we would come back and celebrate Mothers Day here since the Sunday brunch was so beautiful looking.
What a mistake!
The hotel does a huge bait and switch and books their Sunday brunch for Mothers Day but puts it in the banquet hall instead of the normal pretty outdoor patio restaurant and books 500 people. They also noted it was a jazz brunch. We heard two songs when we came in at 11:15 am and they never played again. We left around 2pm.
Upon arrival we are briskly rushed past all these lovely outdoor tables with umbrellas and seated in the middle of an enormous, dark banquet room on rental furniture– more like a holiday inn, in between the seafood and salads.
I asked to change tables, said I felt we were getting the B list service and we were moved to the outside but next to the check in host. I am not sure what I did to merit the worst table? I booked it weeks ago.
Than we are offered cocktails so we ordered bellinis. Fifteen minutes later no belliinis. After we got our food I realized we were never offered coffee?! This is a brunch! I had to chase down one of the overworked staff and beg for a cup of coffee. No refills offered. We did not even get offered water.
It was such a sham. The service was awful– I have attended many Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties here and this is basically what you get on Mothers Day. A banquet hall with banquet service, no coffee and even the desserts were picked over and not replenished. They were woefully under staffed and tons of security walking around with walkie talkies. I am not sure why either. It was so low class.
I would never recommend this brunch again and regret not booking the four seasons. This was not special. It was awful.

why was red wine splattered all over our table, you may wonder? well, it’s because, despite the fact that our table ordered not one but two bottles of malbec, our waiter simply plopped the bottles down in the middle of the table and left. there was no offering of a taste, no offering of a pour, no, nothing. so the duties had to fall to one of us, meaning they fell to me, and so i clumsily poured out the wine several times during the course of the evening.
being a vegan, my options here were limited to one of two salads. i elected to go for the kale salad, which came with beets, citrus and allegedly macona almonds. the salad was definitely not entrée size, so i unfortunately filled up on bread, and there was nary an almond to be found on my plate, so the salad, while tasty, lacked crunch.
the rest of my table appeared to enjoy their meals.

My boyfriend and I went to dinner last night at On Sunset, and as it is December we opted for sitting indoors although the outside patio was appealing no one was there. As we walked in, the first thing that we noticed was that the restaurant was insanely stuffy, warm, and dead silent. No background music, no white noise. Just the sound of the one couple eating and having a conversation.
The hostess did her job, but barely that… No smile, didn’t make us feel welcomed at all.
We sat down at our table and our waiter came over, very friendly, big smile. we commented on the heat and the quiet. He explained that they had music, but that the difference between silent and the lowest volume setting was huge. We asked him if he could open the door so the sound of the water feature and the music that was outside (not to mention the airflow) would help the situation inside.
He opened the door.
This began the war over the door between us and the hostess. Every time the door would get opened, she would go to close it. And rather than leaving it open, she would turn up the air conditioner, which did absolutely nothing for the DEATHLY SILENT dining room.
It felt like we were sitting in a funeral parlor. Still and quiet.
Another couple came in, commented on the weird quiet, and after another issue with the waiter about wine for the woman and her ID, got up and left, frustrated.
We ordered our food, and drinks and all of those choices were delicious.
We had Tuna Tartare, Heirloom Tomato and Burrata salad, Halibut, and Filet. All were delicious and perfectly cooked.
we ended up winning the war over the door. However, the manager came in and asked the Hostess why it was open if she was «so cold» and she explained that we wanted it open. The waiter then said loud enough for us to hear that perhaps the reason we were so hot, was because we were drinking.
UNCOOL.
You go to a restaurant for dinner to have a nice meal and conversations. when it is so silent in the dining room that you can hear EVERY word spoken by another person and every crunch of them eating, it doesn’t feel so comfortable.
It took a fair bit of time to get our check, considering at that point we were one of two tables.
The food was great, the atmosphere and experience left a lot to be desired,

Great food selection Excellent service! Great vibe! I just ate here on a Thursday for lunch and it is packed! If you are near brentwood or need a good lunch spot for personal or business I recommend it.

Stayed here on business and ate at the restaurant out of convenience. I had the miso glazed cod. I’ve always thought good cod is underrated because it’s so ubiquitous, you know, the fish in fish and chips. It was the best piece of cod I can recall eating. Fork tender, soft and bathed in a ginger buerre blanc. Righteous and definitely a different take on cod. Served with roasted veggies. A wonderful dish. My colleagues had the lobster sandwich and wouldn’t shut up about it. Ended up going back for dinner and had the lobster ravioli. It was a heavy dish, creamy and rich, something I normally avoid but it did not miss. Devilishly delicious. Also loved the outdoor seating under the awning, general swankiness of the hotel. Valet only parking though brings it down a star.

Hidden gem in brentwood. Been here a few times and the food as always bee fantastic. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Was surprised at the amount of fresh lobster in the lobster sandwich.

Had a great dinner here Saturday night, sat outside. This is our second time here. Food is always perfect and delicious. Great place to have a relaxing dinner in LA.

The reason why I am not giving this place a five is because the food was good but not amazing. I came here with my boyfriend for Sunday jazz brunch. Sounds like an exciting experience right? Well guess what? It is! =) The location is so easy to find… right off the 405 fwy. Parking is valet only… but if you go to the restaurant, it is two hours free. So do not forget to ask to validate your ticket! The ambiance was really nice. We sat outside and although it was warm, they have some kind of canopy that covers the tables to keep it cool. Then you can go eat brunch. Here is what they have:
— A warm section that includes a variety of breakfast/​lunch foods such as bacon, sausage, toast, waffles, pancakes, mashed potatoes, chicken, french toast, and so many other things. Right next to this they have the dessert table.
— A bread section filled with different types of pita, muffins, and just bread.
— Omelette section (the best section). You can get an omelette any way you like. So yummy!
–Seafood/​snack type section: Had crab legs, sushi, shrimp, oysters, cheese, crackers, salad, chips and ceviche. Just a variety of stuff.
So even with all these options, why did it give this place 4 stars? Because some of my food tasted stale… my toast and sausage was super chewy… the chips were stale. But they did have their good options as well. The dessert was fabulous. I got this little cup with something that looked like flan and it had blueberries and strawberries on top. OMG! Too die for. I loved it!
I would have to say the best part of this place was the live music playing. The two guys in the band were great! Also, our waiter, Eddie, was the best! Always so attentive and helpful. He was great! Overall, this place was good. Maybe the food would have been better if it wasn’t a brunch? I dunno… but it is a place to go to for the experience. I would definitely recommend. =) You also get to see local celebrities. We saw Ron Jeremy… haha…

Very happy with the set up of this restaurant. Perfect for the summer lunch setting. Salads are definitely the call if you’re going for lunch. Id recommend the superfood salad, very healthy!
Comfortable setting and the service is solid.

Stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for my birthday & I loved the hotel! If your a city girl & love Los Angeles this is the perfect location. Saturday morning we had breakfast at the restaurant & ordered the salmon hash, it was so good!!! I was a little indecisive because eggs Benedict was on the menu & that always my «go to» but I tried something new and was happy I did. It was full of flavor.

Very cute little spot on the bottom floor of the Luxe Hotel. Came here for dinner and sat in the dining room. The overall restaurant was small but nice. The outdoor area is lovely and great for people watching on Rodeo, particularly in the day time. Came here with a Groupon to check it out and service was a 5, food a 4. Did not like one of our dishes but overall great place and Would definitely return for brunch or lunch

I’m giving this place a solid 3 star rating. They lost a whole star simply due to SLOW ASS SERVICE! They lost .75 stars for making me pay extra for MANDATORY valet service beyond my 2 hour stay. Then they lost .25 for the annoying reservation confirmation calls. Did you REALLY need to call me 6 times within 36 hours even AFTER I gave you my credit card info to hold my reservation? I mean REALLY?
My girlfriends and I decided to bring our monthly brunch gathering to the Westside for a change of scenery. I absolutely HATE the 405, but that’s another review for another time, honey!
We arrived at 11:00am, the start of brunch. I was impressed by how quickly the valet guys had issued my ticket and whisked my car away. We walk in and I LOVE the décor… it’s so chic! I see the display of food up ahead and I’m hoping it’s all I hear it is.
We’re seated pretty quickly, except they didn’t have our table ready (and that was AFTER the hostess escorted us in. There was some confusion at to where an extra table would come from. Then we had to flag a waiter down for place settings. We must’ve looked like a bunch of women in serious need of mimosas because next thing I know Enrique is offering up drinks!
Here I’m thinkin we hit the jackpot baby! They bring you one already mixed? Say whaaaaaaat? Sign me up! Yeah… NO…that was pretty much the first and last one we were brought.
My girls and I tend to shut down any brunch we go to. There when they start and stay til they are seating people for early dinner! And we probably consume a case (12 bottles) worth of champagne or more between 9 – 12 of us. Our glasses MUST stay filled and I BETTA NOT have to ASK for it! Aside from the food, constantly filled glasses or lack thereof is a deal breaker. It seemed like our waiter was the only one working the room. I could barely make eye contact with the guy to get his attention. #EPICFAIL
The presentation was marvelous! The omelettes, made-​to-​order crêpes, CRISP bacon, and those cute little crème brûlée cups! OMG! I feel like I missed out because that’s all I ate! Everything was so good ONCE, I had to have seconds!
The live jazz was a nice touch! I honestly don’t think I would come back though… unless someone else was paying! I think the slow service killed it. If I can get good food, a decent presentation and AMAZING SERVICE for $ 30 less AND free parking SOMEWHERE ELSE, why would I inconvenience myself with a 45 minute ride on the 405, in traffic BOTH WAYS for more?
Try it for yourself… the food was amazing. The champagne was amazing! And cold!!! But shit… it took forever to get my glass filled… and then we kept having to ask for OJ… he would only bring a single glass… there were NINE of us. We ALL wanted a mimosa… damn, we can’t even get more orange juice?
And the final kick… they turn WAAAAAAAAAY down promptly at 2:00. «You ain’t gotta go home, but you gotta get the HELL up outta HERE!» We’re sitting in our section just cackling and squealing and we begin to notice folks cleaning up and the chafing dishes being taken away. Yo! Who turned the music off? I swear it felt like weren’t there very long and everything was shutting down. When we left it almost looked like «what brunch?»
Upside…we met the rep for the champagne we were being served… and she left us an open bottle (thank GAWD! We were thirsty!) we made our first connect for our wine club! Woo hooo!
Overall the whole thing left me feeling kinda meh.

Very cool restaurant in a very hip hotel. The room service was hit or miss but the Sunday brunch was frickin’ awesome. Nice crowd too, ya gotta dress up just a little for this place.
There is a nice mellow jazz trio that plays at the brunch, the Todd Washington Trio. Nice touch. Good food. Great atmosphere. Fun crowd. The bill for two came to $ 108 with Pellegrino sparkling water and 2 coffees.

Took us long enough to come back for Sunday jazz brunch, the Easter brunch was AMAZING!
The brunch was held at the ballroom and courtyard, not the actual restaurant. We asked and got seated at a small table outside, it was so lovely, each table had flowers, so beautiful and relaxing! The weather was perfect, only if I wasn’t a little too tired from the binge drinking the previous night, I would have enjoyed it much more… blame vodka!
The brunch selections looked even better than the menu they described on their site! Attention fish lovers! The fish dishes were amazing, almost a bit overwhelming for me, I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat much because I was a little hang over… the assorted smoked fish plates were soooo good, smoky and salty, so flavorful!
Depise how tired I was, I had a few tastings of the brunch food.
Appetizer section:
Fresh oysters and clams: they were amazingly fresh, the housemade sauces were great on them!
King crab legs and claws, jumbo shrimps: they were fresh, not tender enough, but still delicious.
Assorted smoked fish and sushi: loved the smoked fish, the spicy Moroccan salmon was particularly good! The sushi was fairly delicious and very fresh.
They also have assorted cheese plates, breads, bakeries, I tried the muffin, loved it! It was so yummy! The ceviche and salad bar were so good too.
Omelet station:
They serve cage free eggs, lots of choices to add on, hubby was happy, he loves omelet, I would try one but I had yet to save some room for other things. An omelet is a little too filling.
Carving station:
prime rib and honey ham, hubby was even happier, he made a few trips, was very satisfied with the good meats!
Sautéed station:
Loved the potato martini bar, I just love potatoes! The French crepes, waffles and pancakes all looked delicious, but I am not fan of those so I didn’t give it a try.
Entrée section:
Loved the grilled artichoke with salmon, the mashed potatoes were really good, loved the strong flavor.
They have soup, vegetables, poultry and meats, pasta, eggs benedict, risotto, really a little bit of everything for everybody!
Desert section:
The deserts were so yummy, since it was Sunday, so I didn’t mind indulging in some sweets! The cookies and scones were sooooo good, loved the rice pudding and whiskey flavored chocolate cake. The fruits were so fresh and sweet too. It was nice to be able to try assorted deserts, I enjoyed it so much!
There was just too much food, I suggest to come here with a very «healthy» appetite, it means when you are really hungry, otherwise, you won’t be able to taste them all, it’s really worth $ 58 per person, they sure kept the mimosa flowing throughout the entire brunch. This brunch is Pescetarian, vegan /​vegetarian friendly too, that’s awesome!
The service was great, all staffs were super attentive and friendly. We could even take some bakeries up to our suite, in case I got hungry later, how convenient!
This is definitely one of the best brunch buffets I have ever had in a long time! The lovely and relaxing atmosphere, the beautiful courtyard, the live jazz band, most importantly? The FOOD! The fresh seafood and smoked fish were soooo good! It was a shame I was too tired to eat more… But It’s OK, there is still Mother’s Day brunch in less than a month!
Ps. Complimentary two hours valet parking for brunch guests!

I’ve been here twice for work dinners, so while I can speak to the quality of food and the service, value is not something I can really speak to.
But on food and service, On Sunset is an amazing experience. We had a pre fixe menu, and so my choices were as follows:
— Heirloom tomato and burrata salad: Heavy on the tomato, light on the burrata, but otherwise a good replication of this classic dish.
— Japanese pumpkin and sweet potato ravioli: the highlight of dinner. It comes in a delicious lemon butter sauce and all the pine nuts you could hope for.
— Assortment of family-​style desserts: the best of all worlds. I especially like anything that’s served with cream or custard!
Service is also excellent, although it can get a little chilly on the patio. It’s a beautiful space and a classy setting for a nice date or dinner. 2 hours free valet with validation!

Attention à l’addition, on nous a facturé 3 menus à la place de deux.

Sinon la carte des vins est bien fournie.
Mais la salade de crabe contenait des morceaux de carapace.
L’accompagnement de la truite saumonée contenait du persil, certes lavée mais avec les queues entières. Manqué de finesse

Disappointing at best. On Sunset is located within the Luxe Hotel in Brentwood (on Sunset). The first 2 hours of valet parking are free with validation from the restaurant (there is no street parking nearby). My husband and I chose to eat brunch at On Sunset because we had friends from out of town staying at the Luxe Hotel, and they suggested the restaurant.
We started with coffee, which was decent… at first. I ordered an omelette with bacon, mushrooms, and asparagus. What I got was runny, uncooked egg yolk on a platter, with bacon, mushrooms, and spinach. When I showed the waiter my dish and asked for a new omelette, he said, «we can warm it up for you and add asparagus.» That’s exactly what they did — They seemingly threw the same omelette on the stove, reheated it, and threw some warm asparagus on top. So, now I have extra overcooked eggs, burnt bacon, and soggy spinach on a plate with some asparagus literally just thrown on top. After 2 or 3 cups of coffee, I noticed there was a large piece of black plastic in my mug (which I inspected before my first cup… so, where did it come from?). Needless to say, I was done drinking coffee after that. My husband ordered the smoke salmon hash, which sounded lovely and tasted good, but where was the salmon? It was so sparse amongst the red peppers, potatoes, etc. For $ 16, you could throw in a little more salmon… really.
We stayed for 2 hours and 10 minutes, so our free valet time had expired, and we paid $ 5 for parking. The waiter serving us was rather clueless. The restaurant was empty, so he should have just had the kitchen make me a new omelette. Also, where did that piece of plastic in my coffee come from? I would not return here.

Great international fare. Everything from the tuna to gaspacho was amazing. We attended the WineMakers dinner as a result of wining a Facebook Competition. The wine was to die for, and the food pairings were fabulous. I am confused how people were expecting more for the price. Yea you can pay the same price for a different maybe more upscale experience in Beverly Hills/​Hollywood… but when you eat, dont you go for the food?
I went for the food, and was not let down. The head of the hotel and GM attended the dinner and were both very graceful, attentive, and great all around hosts. We met the chef as he took us through all of the dishes, and everything was «tres bon». Give this place a try if you are ever in the area, or stuck on the 405 around lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed!
