niXon global kitchen + patio lounge

Had a pleasant experience here. Not sure about parking as I walked, but assuming they have valet. On the second floor w an open floor plan and cool views of Staple Center etc. Place was hopping ~5:30pm, and much of the area was closed off for an event, but I was able to flag down a waitress who was really helpful by putting us in the main dining section (even though it had been closed off). We ordered the tuna tartar which wasn’t very big but the flavors were great, lots of citrus notes and served with avocado and wanton chips. Also got the tuna tacos which were very small, came with 3, served in little wanton shells, with a little avocado purée on the bottom and a surprising kick to finish. Both dishes were ~$ 13 each. The waitress was very attentive (especially given we were in a separate room) and friendly. Décor was nice and a bit swanky but casual dress was fine. I’d definitely return if hungry or thirsty in the area.

Shane the bartender is great! He knows his way around a drink for sure ! All fresh ingredients and he really knows what he’s talking about ! Not just a bartender … It’s a art ! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed him!

Awesome place to visit a bar, outside over looking the action. Good music good and drinks. Thanks for the good times. Highly recommended!

Get a burger! Holy deliciousness. Short ribs on a perfectly done burgers shoestrings fried onions… it doesn’t get any better than that. Plus you can wash it down with one of those lavender mojitos which is amazing. Great service, food and view… highly recommend!

The absolute worst service I have ever NOT received in my whole life.
The heavier waitress with the black hair never brought me my husband or my friends our food.
She will not look any of us in the eye. I am a very polite respectful person so I know for a fact that it wasn’t anything personal she’s just a really bad waitress, she needs to be fired and I wish I knew her name. I’m never coming back.

Nixon was a great place to go before the hockey game yesterday. It wasn’t crowded at all and the view was so pretty. The bartender was really friendly and quick when it came to making drinks and putting in our order. We only tried the kettle chips with the spicy dipping sauce and they were really good! Ended up getting two orders of them. I would recommend coming here whether you are staying in the area, the hotel, or just waiting for an event to start at Staples Center. It’s located on the second floor of the Luxe hotel.

For a place that charges $ 45 for valet which was full, so then had to self park around the corner for $ 30(there was a concert at staples that evening thus explains the hike on parking price and I get it it’s LA LIVE/​DTLA). The hotel was very nice. The bar area was nice. I wasn’t too impressed with the restaurant side. Seemed pretty plain. Our waitress was nice. She seem knowledgeable on the menu. We were a group of 11 girls and she managed to be attentive enough on a not so busy night. However, 2 out of 11 meals had to be sent back because they were burnt. 1 meal came super late and when it did come, that as well was burnt. Mine salmon actually burnt on top, but I was just too hungry to wait. It was also a bit on the salty side. For the price point, I do not recommend this place.

We were early to see the Clippers trounce the New Orleans Pelicans (worst name for a sports team EVER) at Staples Center the other night, so we bopped across the street from all the super-​mobbed bars and restaurants in and around L.A. Live and just randomly fell into the Nixon. (Not a great name either.)
It’s a 2^nd story open-​air bar – not my favorite on a cold night, even with the heat lamps. There was a pretty good singer/​guitarist trying not to look like he was freezing his ass off. Only a few customers around, maybe a dozen.
Waitress was super-​nice and friendly. We told her we just wanted a good glass of wine and she informed us that it was currently happy hour (woo hoo) and the house wines were $ 5 a glass. Wary of happy hours, house wines and well drinks in general, I asked her if the customers seemed to like the house wine and I think she sort of said yes.
Anyway I got the red (cabernet) and my wife got the white (chardonnay) and they were both gawd awful. The red was harsh and bitter and heavy in a complex, semi-​nauseating way and my wife agreed with me. It was so bad I didn’t even want to try her white, but she assured me it was even worse than the red. Starving, my wife gobbled down a salad which the waitress was very nice about checking with the chef to make sure it was all vegan. She thought it was okay, nothing amazing but something to hold her till after the game.
Moral: I would have GLADLY paid more for a GOOD glass of wine. What’s the point of serving shit wine during happy hour? Nobody is ever going to want it again. Serve good wine for criminey’s sake. The world is positively overflowing with excellent fermented grape beverages and I see no reason to foist horrible swill like this on anybody for any reason. I don’t even think the winos down on Figueroa would have wanted this stuff.
And as I said, the staff we dealt with were really great! So give them some high quality materials to sell and the crowds will flock over from across the street.

What a great place to relax and enjoy live music. Great views of downtown and a beautiful patio. Asahi and Nicholas have two of the finest bartenders in downtown. These guys make the best craft cocktails and put so much attention to detail and love in every drink they make. Had my first whiskey sour today made with egg whites and I’m in love. I love the mules and the old fashions here, this is a must stop for locals and tourist! Thanks guys.

Good pitstop when you’re in DTLA, especially if you’re there for a show at the convention center. Lights, camera, action — you’re in LA, baby!

What a beautiful spot to lounge, with downtown just right outside and in view. Great ambiance. Ordered off their menu, had the Jidori chicken and Mac and cheese and it was heavenly. My friend had the pizza and it was one of the best he has ever had, fresh and not to processed like at some bar and lounge places. Drinks were well made, and place was very clean. Will be back when I visit downtown again… just love the view!!!

I think the food is okay, but the reason why I’d come here is for the Shirley Temples made with Hibiscus syrup. I don’t drink so nasty, cheap, red grenadine or with maraschino cherries are not how I like my STs.

I really enjoyed this place. We came for Dine LA, but ended up ordering off their regular menu. They have HH until 7, which is nice. We started with sangria, wine, & a charcuterie platter of their HH menu.
We decided to get the shrimp and pesto fettuccine and the flat iron steak. It was surprisingly good. Sorry Nixon, but I didn’t have high expectations. After a few more sangrias & wine off the HH menu, we ended the night with their crème brûlée. Also really good.
We went on a weekday, around 5ish and it was pretty dead. In fact, it stayed pretty dead until we left around 8ish. There was a soccer game on, and we were pretty much the only ones watching. Lol. Not sure when it gets crazy, but the venue itself is pretty cool. You’re on the second floor of the Luxe Hotel, overseeing Figueroa & Olympic. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, with fire pits for those chilly LA nights and they have a house DJ. Nixon definitely has potential.

The ahi was salted to oblivion and served lukewarm, next to lukewarm sticky rice and mediocre vegetables. The bar’s take on an old fashioned, the Real McCoy, arrived syrupy and noticeably lacking in booze. I ate relatively late — 9 pm on a Monday — so maybe the A team wasn’t on duty. But Nixon definitely added credence to my belief that when possible one should never dine at the hotel restaurant.

Nixon Bar Lounge is located on the 2^nd floor of the Luxe City Center Hotel, in DTLA.
It’s outdoors and can probably accommodate 100 people, give or take, comfortably. Dress code: DRESS CASUAL.
The view of the city from the lounge is very nice! Surprisingly, you don’t have to be miles above ground to get a good view of things. There are cabanas, a nice fire pit and heating lamps that kept up toasty as the night fell.
My group of friends ordered both food & drinks, which we were all very pleased with. A lot of times, lounge food isn’t very good, so this was appreciated.
–Asian Pear Drink: Light and refreshing. Not as strong as other drinks I’ve had, but ok.
–Berry Mojito: Stronger than the Asian Pear. Sweeter, too, so keep that in mind if you don’t like fruity, sweet drinks.
–Nixon Burger: very big! Good to cut in half and share with a friend.
–Guacamame: a mix of avocado and edamame. Very good! Seasoned well, served with chips. Recommend.
–Korean BBQ: ok. Good to share.
The wait to get our bill was really long; 45 minutes. I don’t blame our server, as she was serving the whole lounge solo. The other server went home sick, which I empathize with, but why does the Nixon only have two servers for a busy lounge on a Saturday night?
I’d return, maybe next time I’ll make it to their Sunday Brunch with the Bloody Mary Bar!

Nixon Bar is a great spot in DTLA one block from Staples Center. If you’re going to a game or concert and don’t wanna fight to get a drink, then this is a great stop before the event. Have never seen it real crowded maybe because it’s located in a hotel.
The second level outdoor patio bar overlooks Fig St; and features a fire pit and fountain as well as cabana type areas if you want to have your own private party.
Fresh air, cool ambience, good drinks, an outdoor sit-​down bar and comfortable high end outdoor furniture is what you find here. One thing we have not found here is good service. All three times in we ended up walking up to the bar for drinks because a server was nowhere to be seen. May be understaffed but this hasn’t stopped us from returning because of the ambience and also the fact we walk two blocks from our condo to get here.
NOTE: If you’re gonna check it out then do it sooner than later because the entire building is scheduled to come down and be replaced by a mega-​million dollar project in the future.

Nice clean line with an amazing aurora to it. Very relaxing and incredible place to watch a game. Very attractive place and the food smell delicious as it is as well. Very clear and loud surround system they have.

Hidden gem in the heart of downtown! We were drawn in by the DJ who also did a great job of keeping us there. The décor matched the hip tunes the DJ was spinning. Even the servers seemed cool in button ups and dresses. The food and drinks were great too, the food was particularly affordable, especially for the area this lounge is in the heart of.

A group of friends and I went here after Club Nokia because the Yardhouse and Rosa’s were packed because of a Kings game letting out at the same time. We found an area outside that could fit all 15 or so of us, so we sat down and it took 15 minutes for someone to come up to our table and tell us he’d send a server right over. In the meantime, half our party had already gotten up to grab drinks at the bar. The server finally got there 5 minutes later, so it took 20 minutes for someone to help us. I guess you can call it help, she seemed like she didn’t want to be there and seemed annoyed with anyone she had to wait on, or even annoyed that half of us got impatient and already ordered. She looked at me and said, «Do you want anything?» I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could say anything, she had already walked away.
So I went up to the bar to get myself a drink and my friend some water and I was waiting for about 10 minutes. There was one bartender that was busy, and two showed up and completely ignored me (I was one of about 5 people at the bar, the only one without a drink, and the only one who appeared to not be sitting at the bar and just waiting to be helped). The 2 non-​busy bartenders were talking to each other, checking their phones, etc. I said to the girl next to me, «What do I have to do to get a drink around here?» She replied and introduced me to the busy bartender, «This is Nick, he is the best. They can take some time to make drinks because they make ‘em really special here, so I’m sure it’ll just be another minute.» He nodded when she said his name, in the meantime, a couple walked up behind me.
This Nick bartender (pretty sure it was Nick) then looks at one of the other bartenders, since he was busy, and says, «Can you help these two?» As in, the couple that had just got there, and not the girl who had been waiting for 10 minutes right in front of all the bartenders’ faces for a drink and some water. I then just turned and walked away. All my friends asked where my drink was when I returned. I was very upset. I have NEVER been treated that way, ever. The boyfriend of my friend that asked for the water said, «Oh, I better get Allison her water.» He got a water immediately from the bar. I am in DTLA a lot and I will never, ever go back to this place, and I will definitely warn others not to go.

I only had an app and cocktails here however the drinks were excellent and the Ahi Tuna Poke was a great lite bite to have. I challenged the bartender to concocting a drink that included cucumber and jalapeño and he didn’t disappoint. The service was great although the restaurant was in the process of doing a magazine photo shoot they generously made up for the inconvenience. Great bar.

Def check it out before you catch the game at staples center! Great upstairs outdoor patio with dj spinning cool tunes and view of all the action!

Low-​key on a cold Thursday night, but the open fire pit makes it warm and inviting for a small group not looking for a scene. A lone guitarist was strumming some blues, my lavendar mojito was lovely, and the service was with a smile. This strategically-​placed bar is accessible directly from the street via a flight of stairs to the 2^nd floor patio of the Luxe Hotel: nice that you don’t have to wend your way through the hotel to enjoy it, and the location across the street from LA Live makes it a great second stop in a bar hop. I’ll definitely return.

They know how to treat a customer here, and the drinks are wonderful and delicious, the noms TASTY we will be back, this place is credit to downtown Los Angeles

The bathrooms were incredibly nice and clean. Yes, that’s how I’m starting this review.
At the top of the stairs/​entry to the lounge, there was a ladder with a bucket to catch a leak in the ceiling. Lovely.
I don’t see this being a dinner or meal place, strictly drinks for lounging.
We went for after dinner drinks and on a hunt for dessert. 2 coffees were kind of warm and very weak. The tea wasn’t served properly so our friend didn’t really get to enjoy it, and my husband ordered a Moscow mule — he said it was ‘okay’. The desserts were limited so we didn’t get any. And the drink server didn’t know how to describe any of them.
The overall vibe is strange — the manager hovered but didn’t interact with any patrons. There was only 1 waitress; she seemed more interested in the «younger» tables, barely checking on us.
We sat on couches around a fire, really pretty and perfect to just relax. However the fire went out and we had to ask 3 times for someone to come light it (including the manager). A guy finally came but was interrupted by a girl who needed an outlet to charge her cell phone… He left us and hunted an outlet down. Since when did a cell phone take precedence over maintaining your restaurant appearance?
Upon paying our bill there was a Holiday Inn pen with it. This lounge isn’t associated with that hotel — that manager should be all over brand marketing. Awful.
We did get a «special show» though — there was a couple in the 2^nd floor area ‘going at it’, if you catch my gist.

Grabbed a quick bite to eat before the Lakers game across the street from the Staples Center !
Wanted to check this place out since it was nearby and we had to pick up tickets. Not too shabby !!

It was a bit chilly outside so we decided to eat at the cool looking bar. Hardly any people and there were enough staff available.

Shisito Peppers $ 4 — Highly recommended by the bartender. Flavorful and sweet snack ! I do wish it had a bit of heat though.
Caprese Pizza $ 8 — customized without the cheese. Lovely crisp, chewy, warm, thin crust. Very fresh and flavorful. Straight out of the oven !! I added some of the shisito peppers on it and it was also a great addition.
Setting Sun Sangria $ 5 — YUM !!! I love sangria ! Beautiful drink !! CHEERS !!!
Not an expansive menu, but nice way to dine and dash if you’re in a hurry.
Overall, 4 STARS !!
To top off the night: LAKERS BEAT CELTICS !!! WHOO !!! Such an amazing time watching it LIVE !!!

We were across the street when we saw the big flashy neon sign at the Lux advertising the Happy Hour at the Nixon Bar. So we went over to enjoy some wine at happy hour prices.
The waitress greeted us right away. We were a large group and she let us sit in the cabanas. She was very nice and helpful with our orders.
Such beautiful views of the city ! We had such a nice time drinking wine and just kicking back and enjoying the view. The Nixon bar really had a great atmosphere, it was perfect for hanging out with friends.
