The practice of family law isn’t easy, but Kelly Chang handles the stress and conflict of this area of law with both grace and humor. In my experience, she’s one of the most competent attorneys I have dealt with and I have recommended her several times to others needing counsel regarding divorce and custody disputes.

Words cannot describe how incredible Kelly was throughout this whole process. She was extremely professional, organized, and accurate in her information. But more importantly to me was her kind manner, her understanding of what I was going through, and her ability to make me feel comfortable throughout a process that I was clueless about. She took care of everything… just as she said. And when the divorce was finalized, she let me know immediately. I cannot thank her enough.

Ms. Chang-​Rickert worked on my divorce from late 2014 thru March 2015. Every single draft submitted to me had several typographic errors and errors in content. Even the final judgement document still had errors. Several times, corrections that were agreed upon were not made and had to be requested again. An already painful experience was made more so by having to constantly request corrections in grammar and content, or suggest exact wording myself, to make the judgement document clear. Ms. Chang-​Rickert did not even have to negotiate most of the terms, as they had already been agreed upon. Ms. Chang-​Rickert admitted to me that she had another longer-​term case, that prevented her from giving my case the attention that I felt it needed. While I had no objection to her servicing multiple cases at the same time, I did feel that my case was grossly neglected in terms of attention to detail and satisfying my needs as her client. When I informed Ms. Chang-​Rickert that I was dissatisfied, she verbally attacked me, saying I was the problem and said she was terminating our contract. I did what I could to smooth it over, because I could not afford to hire a new attorney, after already paying Ms. Chang-​Rickert not only a $ 12,000.00 retainer, but quite a bit more after that. I feel Ms. Chang-​Rickert was grossly ineffective as a divorce attorney and therefore absolutely cannot recommend her.

I found Kelly after going through 3 other attorneys I found after diligent searches on the internet. So grateful! My divorce had been pending for over 2 years. (I had a short-​term marriage, with no kids, and very little assets). After paying retainer after retainer, NO work was ever done. Be careful out there! You can message me for the names of the other firms I used. After hiring Kelly, she was able to set the case for trial and immediately resolve the case in 5.5 months. She is a bit pricier than the other firms I found, but as I realized the hard way, you get what you pay for. I am finally divorced. Will hire her firm to do any future family law work (hopefully none!)

I hired Kelly to draft a prenup. My wedding was in 6 weeks, yikes. She was in trial, but her assistant set me up with everything I need. As soon as I met with Kelly, the agreement was done in 2 days. We were able to finalize everything. I liked her she didn’t quote different prices based on my assets (a lot of firms charge based on your assets). It’s a set price, with set hours for negotiation and review. She also is very good at explaining things (something lawyers are typically not good at!)

I hired Kelly on my custody case. My ex has never been involved — not at the hospital, never paid a dime of support. After I filed a case with the Department of child support services, he filed for full custody of my son (who is now 5!). I was beyond scared. I called her office crying, and her assistant calmed me down. Her office is the only one that actually made me feel like they cared about me. When I met Kelly, I knew she was the right attorney, because she set forth a strategy and helped me understand in regular people terms how we would proceed. The case went EXACTLY as she explained it would. In the end, I continued to get full custody, and she helped me obtain arrears and establish a child support order going forward. I know that there may be future battles (as she explained, co-​parenting is forever), but it’s nice to know I have someone who is knowledgeable and professional on my side.

I had a child custody and support case which she and her wonderful assistant Jennifer were able to handle quickly and efficiently with as good as an outcome as I could have hoped. I only met her once and the rest of our correspondence was via email and phone calls. I found it far more efficient than having to take time off work to go to her office and didn’t have to deal with snail mail either. Although for her services I would go into her office if need be. She is surprisingly (only because, well… lawyer) warm and helped put me at ease during a time when I was stressed and emotional. If you are unfortunate enough to have to retain a lawyer, go with the best and go with Kelly, she’s worth every penny.

I’ve hired (and fired) many lawyers/​firms in my career as a tech CEO and I have to say that Kelly and her small boutique firm is real standout. She and her crew work efficiently, I never feel like I’m being over-​billed or nickled-​and-​dimed, she communicates well so I know exactly where my case is at all times, and her calendar and budget estimates were right on the money.
Most attorneys will start off the conversation by telling you how great your case is, how the other side is being unreasonable, how you should stand up and fight this fight etc. all so they can rack up more hours. Kelly is no-​nonsense, tells you right where you are, right where the law is, and what kind of outcome you can expect (based upon the actions available to the other side), and then she executes like a champ.
This seems simple, but I have to say that most attorneys/​firms I’ve worked with are rarely so upfront to begin with nor so capable in execution.
I intend to never need a family practice attorney again, but if I do I will make a beeline straight for Kelly.

Kelly Chang is the type of lawyer who gives the profession a bad name. Her one and only concern is reaping a large financial reward for herself at the expense of her client. You will likely never see her after hiring her, as the work will be done by what she describes as a very competent associates, but then she will double bill you for many extra hours citing the need to «supervise» the said competent attorney.
She is however fantastic at PR, which is why you’re more likely to see her at the end of the 6 o’clock newscast offering an opinion about the latest celebrity divorce gossip than a courtroom. I once questioned one of her invoices and she sent 6 angry and condescending emails within an hour, calling me, her paying client, every name in the book plus that I don’t understand anything and should not hire a lawyer if I dare to question her invoice. Her assistant had to write me and apologize profusely between her messages or that would’ve been the end of our relationship. (All our exchanges are saved and available if she’d like to dispute my recollection)
In short, if you’re after a TV divorce «expert», hire her. Otherwise take your money to somebody who actually cares about your case and has the expertise to represent you properly.

I unfortunately needed Kelly’s help in a custody matter. I quickly learn that I had hired the best lawyer for the job. Kelly was very well prepared and kept the focus on what was best for my son.
Due to Kelly and Veronica’s skills as legal angels, I was awarded SOLE custody of my son. This was no small feat given that the family law courts can be biased against fathers.
Due to this ruling, my son had a stable home. My has recently graduated, with honors, from high school and will be attending a 4 year college in the fall.
