RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. Very uncharacteristic of the inviting experience I had at every other shop on Olvera St. My sister tried on a blouse while my daughter looked through hair accessories. Saleslady ignored us for quite some time. When my daughter asked how much the headbands were, she flatly responded«I don’t know, they should be marked.» My daughter went back over to search for one with a price. I continued browsing and commented to the same saleslady«You have such beautiful things.» She had a disgusted look on her face and actually looked away from me. I didn’t understand her response, maybe she was having a bad day? Then my daughter said«Mom, I’m just going to pay for these and go. That lady keeps looking at me weird.» I watched the same saleslady who seemed very irritated. I STILL did not get it. When my daughter brought her items up to pay, I stopped her.(This saleslady was clearly rude and for no good reason was snubbing us.) I asked«Is something wrong? She initially didn’t answer and then condescendingly gave a long sigh. I asked her why she would not engage with me, to which she replied. «Why should I?» Customer service is why.. . Finally she said«What do YOU want me to say?» I wanted an honest answer as to what the problem was. She asked me to move so she could«serve» other customers. What the heck??? Jennifer(If that really is your name) I truly hope your mother, sister or daughter are never treated like that. Hopefully can find a job you like. DON’T SHOPHERE.

One of my favorite places to shop at Olvera Street. Cute clothing, reasonable prices, and helpful employees! They also have some mens clothing, which I imagine would be handsome on a guy. I’ve never seen one shopping in the store though. Can’t get out the door without spending at least $ 50. The little items on the counter are impulse items. My impulse clearly states that groceries are unnecessary for a week after shopping here.

I really hate shopping for clothes, but one of the dresses that they had on display outside caught my eye and I went inside. The clothing was the style I loved wearing in college and during those beautiful California summers on the beach. Latin Vintage«peasant» style clothing– loose and flowy with that beautiful crochet lace. Easily dropped a bit over $ 200 on dresses. They have some really pretty stuff in bright colors; I could have easily doubled the spending, but there was still a lot more of LA to visit that day. The jewelry and accessories they sell there easily compliment any of the pieces of clothing. I did not look at tops or their prices. The dressing room I was put into did not have a mirror. There was a frame leaning against the wall so I assume it had broken and this was not a norm. I had to wait until the other spot next to me opened so I could step out and see myself. It was hot that day and considering the small size, open door environment and age of most of the shops, I find it worth noting that this shop was well air conditioned. Latin Sun will be a definite stop next time I am back home and make it down to Olvera St.

Latin Sun is one of the cute little shops on Olvera Street. It’s a little difficult to find, simply because of its location there, but worth a trip. Olvera Street is a pedestrian-only little shopping heaven, kind of a «Little Mexico» nestled between Little Tokyo and Chinatown. I know, weird. Easy to get to with it’s proximity to Union Station. Check the general area out here Latin Sun is a step above the shops that surround it for a couple of reasons: it’s actually a shop with four walls and a door as opposed to a freestanding stall, so there are actually dressing rooms to try on clothes. The clothes are sort of a step above Forever 21-ish in price, quality and style, and they tend to have a more Latin flair, though that’s not necessarily the case. They have some cute accessories, too. I ended up purchasing a top for around 30 $ and a unique hairpiece for about $ 10. Not expensive at all. The night I went there, the girl who was working was just a doll. She seemed to be the only person in the shop and instead of hanging out behind the counter, she was helpful with the customers and when they didn’t need her, she steamed clothing, rearranged things and generally kept the place in order. I doubt she owned the place, though the person that does ought to give the girl a raise!
